Better than you would think.....
Pros: Sharp design; great connectivity; wonderful as the uber-computer monitor; decent for movies
Cons: Even as a non-videophile, I can tell the picture quality isn't the best modern technology has to offer.
My girlfriend and I don't watch any broadcast television - only the occasional movie. So we wanted a nice TV that would be as inconspicuous as possible, and work well with my computer. And for non-videophiles, the W2600 is great for the money.
I got it yesterday and I am, so far, very pleased with it. The inaugural movie was "Sin City", which, if you have not seen the movie, is shot almost entirely in grey-scale. As I've said before, I'm not a huge video jockey, and having the absolute best picture quality isn't a top priority; but, even with my untrained eye, I could tell this TV didn't have the contrast ratio to really handle the movie well. The blacks weren't as black as possible and some of the detail was surely lost. That being said, however, "Sin City" is a movie that would particularly bring out the shortcomings of the TV. It did, but it worked well for other movies. Before buying the W2600, I had a 15 inch Sharp Aquios. This little TV was wonderful - great picture all around. The W2600 isn't that. Although it wasn't the best movie experience possible - I still enjoyed it and am still satisfied with my purchase.
The complaints against Dell (e.g. ?Dhell?) were a strong deterrent and forced to me reconsider my selection several times. It wasn?t until after I started using my Dell TV did I realize the negative reviews were, in all likelihood, not representational. That is not to diminish those problems represented by the negative reviews, but simply a reminder that less people are motivated to write positive reviews than negative. If Dell had a 99% quality assurance rate, you would see every customer in that 1% category on here, denouncing Dell.
I have yet to deal with dell over the phone, but I can so far say that the W2600 - particularly as huge monitor, as CNET recommends for its optimal use - is great; I am happy with it; everything works as promised. I will buy a bigger, better LCD for a home theater in the future, but I will happily keep the W2600 as a computer monitor or secondary TV for the bedroom. For my money, it was a good buy.
