"Component HDTV input picture is not at all that bad, BUT!"

    by mistrbill1 on May 6, 2005

Pros: Get it on sale it is a nice deal

Cons: Service and support. be careful!

Summary: I have had trouble with my set, purchased in January 2005. Dell will only send a refurb unit and it may be a very old (2003-all used up) unit to replace your faulty unit. I have had three refurb units so far. One was DOA, one was used up with very dim backlight and one was missing its rf input connector with solder around where the adapter would be mounted so I could not install another adapter, easily.
Dell does send a replacement out next day. If only the replacement TV worked well!
Dell is still working on this issue. If they work this out I will repost.

You may have better luck than me, but for more than a month, I have not been happy with Dell. I HAVE been happy with Dell computers.

So I have had four W3000's and they have all have had problems. It may just be terrible luck.
    Updated
Call it bad luck, but I have a now have a working unit, after 5 tries. Dell didn't give up on me and continued to work until this issue was resolved. If you get one of these TV's and it has problems (even minor problems) in the first 30 days, return it and get your money back. After 30 days it becomes too late for money back and you have to deal with refurb heck. They pay shipping both ways and ship next day, but it just isn't worth getting laughed at by your co-workers as the boxes come and go.

Connect this thing to digital cable, DirectTV or DVD and you will have a fine-not great-picture with the component input. It's not as good as the more expensive LCD's or plasma's, and no where near as good as a HDTV CRT set (it doesn't weigh 200 pounds either), but it isn't any of those. It is a low cost, very useful LCD TV. With all that said, get it on sale with free shipping and it will look better.

I've fault with Dell for too long. One rep has now taken my case and is really trying to make me satisfied.

The speakers if attached to the unit do not align up - gaps between the screen and then they sag too!

    Anybody else having this problem?
