"Just as good 1/3 the cost"

4.5 stars  | on

Pros

People are setting the bar WAY too high for this thing. Yes, it's not great compared to the built in kits (I have one in my truck), but compared to the other fm transmitters it runs shoulder to shoulder. Because of the full FM range I can always find a

Cons

It eats AAA batteries FAST. I'm looking for a DC converter for home use. The cord is pretty short, fortunately I've got a drink holder right below the radio in the car; without it you might have a hard time finding a place to put it.

Pros

What I liked about this product ? Nothing.

Cons

For starters I had to buy it at Fred Meyers who charged way too much around 20 bucks for this thing. Then I test it and find it has terrible transmission strength.

I went looking to replace my virtual reality 3 labs cigarette lighter style fm transmitter mp3 wma player that used a usb input as well as SD card and had a mini plug connection for I pod or whatever. It had a full tuning spectrum from 87. FM on up.So it finally crapped out (my fault) I left it out in 20 below temps in my car) and I went looking for one everywhere including the stores I used to see them carried by.Now everyone is on the high price I pod trip and don't sell something that can blow it away for the price. Not everyone is looking to have a 30 or 80 gig media player that cost over 1 plus dollars.I can easily swap out sd cards or higher capacity usb cards with all my favs on it for way cheaper giving me more money to spend on a home system that wont get jacked in the wrong neighborhood. So I got stuck buying this piece of crap and the first thing off the bat was it started at 88 fm instead of 87 .Where I live most the spectrum is pretty full but there are some good off air frequencies in that spectrum.(thanks Belkin for not including the whole spectrum)and you have to have AA batteries in order to store memory.Once more my VR3 mp3 fm transmitter did it all and had memory via flash memory and would pick up exactly where my song left off on when I returned the unit to the car and plugged it in..So I plug in my Magnavox mp3 player which worked fine before on my vr3 mini plug input with perfect clear sound and now all I get is static no matter what off air channel I tune into.I finally managed to find a better way to get reception..hang it from my rear view mirror.I'm not joking .Its that bad.Im sure my old VR3 probably violated some FCC rules because I remember driving along the side of my ex on the hwy and she could hear my transmitter the whole way we drove together down the freeway.I was like a mobile dj literally.I actually tested it up to 1/2 mile away on my home stereo while someone drove my car to do the test. This pitiful thing wouldn't go farther than 4 ft without sounding like a angry snake in a waterfall.Since the store policy sucks on electronic returns I'm going to see about doing a little surgery to tune this thing up if possible to crank up the transmission strength because this is pure BS for 20 bucks in change.I'm ordering another vr3 or equivalent on the web since nobody sells these cool things anymore.Ive checked everywhere too. They were cool one year and gone the next.Whatever you do don't buy this thing unless you want to waste money.Go for another solution.Ive been into electronics for years and have never liked Belkin but I was in a pinch and needed this thing and it was the cheapest solution to my issue.I now have to use a transmitter and a separate mp3 player to do what my old player did all in one without all the cords too.
