"Avoid like the plague!"
Pros: It basically works, and the directions are accurate, more often than not.
Cons: The GPS reception is only fair, the software is buggy and once you lose your GPS connection you have to restart the software. It also tends to freeze your pda, requiring a reboot & hardware is shoddy
Summary: I wasted $150 buying this pile of junk. On paper, it looks like a great idea. Why buy a separate GPS receiver when you can plug this into your I-700 PDA/phone and run the software under Pocket Windows? Unfortunately, the execution leaves A LOT to be desired. To begin with, the procedure for start-up is complicated, and it often takes five minutes or more for the software and hardware to find and process the GPS signal. Once running, it works OK, unless you lose signal for a minute. Then the system basically crashes, and you've got to close and reopen the software and westart the GPS. In the process, you lose any routing information you had entered.
The routing through the software is fair to middling. Every once in a while, it'd find a better route than I'd pick on a map, but more often it's routes were overly long, and didn't allow you much choice.
Finally, the connecting cables are poorly constructed. The connector to my I-700 broke after five months, and I was told that the one year warrantee didn't apply to cables. The best they'd offer was a "discount" on buying a replacement.
I'd rather buy a new system that worked. I'd have to say this is a very good idea very poorly implemented.
PS -- It appears this device may have been taken off the market. If so, that's the best decision the company made about it!
