"Avoid it like the plague!"
Pros: Extensive features - but only theoretically possible
Cons: Nothing works as they advertise it will
Summary: All readers: please consider this a public service from me to you. I carefully read all of the other users' reviews before taking the plunge. I thought that all those having problems just weren't "computer savvy" enough to use the software properly, whereas I, a truly knowledgable computer user, wouldn't have any problem. In the end, I have given Teletpye $169 for aboslutely nothing!
To start at the beginning, the software fails to install correctly. This is true whether one exits ALL other running programs or not. You'll need to dig around in the Program Files\GPS\PPC directory to find the .cab files for your Pocket PC, guess which one applies to your model, transfer it over, and click on it on your PPC.
But wait...you're probably expecting to be able to navigate, and perhaps even actually use the program's features as laid out in detail in their instructions. Silly buyer! If you can get past the low-quality, annoying sound effects they have chosen, you might want to change the ridiculous route that the program generates for you (say, for example, routing from Bangor, Maine to Montreal, Quebec needlessly choosing a route that takes 4 hours longer than the route generated by Mapopolis). Why, you'll probably assume you can create WayPoints and AvoidPoints, and have the program route through or around them, just as it says in the instructions! Silly buyer...neither feature works. The program generates only cryptic messages, that aren't mentioned in the instructions at all!
But wait...there's more! When you foolishly purchase this joke, you'll be reminded 9 ways to Sunday that Teletype bears NO responsibility whatsoever! In fact, they repeatedly remind you that NO REFUNDS will ever be given! Getting the program to work is strictly the USER'S responsibility, according to their documentation! Doesn't that assure you that they have confidence in their product, and stand behind it?
Please, oh please, take it from me. Don't make the mistake of thinking that YOU'LL be able to figure it out and get it to work. I was that arrogant too. There goes $169 I'll never see again!

The thing is that I do hate the software. It's not very intuitive. But it does do what they advertised and can be used on Pocket PC's with small footprint. Try that with any other product. However, I don't use their software. This receiver is bluetooth and can be used with your bluetooth cell phone with Google Maps (free). The review should separate the receiver and software as the receiver is one of the best I've tried. So toss the software and download Google Maps for your bluetooth cell phone and viola. Or use Google earth on your laptop.

i have bought software, maps and gps receivers from tele type for many years.
In fact, i have also been throught two Dell hand held units too.
each time i needed help, called teletype and got everything worked out.
the thing works great, support is about as good as any other tec company - try calling microsoft when windows does not work...
i have navagated from Wis to AZ - and everything worked fine.
currently my gps blue tooth seems to be faulty. called in first thing today and they said send it in - so, again teletype seems to answer the phone, take care of the problem and i like the software.
the first blue tooth i had needed some support to get it going - called and got it going in about 10 minutes
i am a businessmanager - sales guy so i am not a high tec guy -
I have installed this program on several computers with NO problems - no need to close anything. The .cab file was installed seamlessly on two different PDAs. I use avoid points and waypoints in routes and BOTH work.
I have no idea what this person was doing but they may have an ax to grind. No routing program is perfect and this one is no exception. Nonetheless, it is a good one IMHO. -
I found TeleType personnel to be extremely knowledgeable and helpful offering live chat assistance and even phone consult to answer questions. They do offer money back guarantee on their packages, although there is a restock fee. I would encourage you to submit your questions directly to TeleType for assistance. I've heard that sometimes they offer updated programs free of charge.
