"This unit won´t get a satellite lock even in the middle of nowhere !"
onPros Very good case, strong design. Very easy to use. Basic GPS features that will get you ready to go right after you unpack it. If have any experience with any GARMIN units, the software is almost the same, no need even to read the manual.
Cons BUT THAT´S ALL WHAT´S GOOD ABOUT THIS UNIT !!! SEE WHY : - Every time yo turn it on, it immediatly asks if you want to acquire the sattelites, and the cursor remains in the "NO" box. That way, you will always have to press two keys before you can use the

onPros Looks, software features, desingn
Cons Poor aquisition, slow, absolutely not waterproof

""cheap" in every sense"
on by johnreeves13Pros durable, inexpensive
Cons freezes up a lot
Summary I have had the Cobra GPS 100 for over a year now and I have used it only a couple times. The reason for this is because of the hassle it gave me when I got it. I decided to give it another shot yesterday just to make sure it was not user error. I am now certain it was not. I went on a hike and at the end of the hike the GPS froze up. I could not do anything but pull out the batteries to reset the unit and by doing this the information for my hike was all lost and could not be recovered. I am glad that I was on a trail that I know so I was able to find my way back, without the GPS. If I had to depend on this GPS to help me navigate back I would have been in trouble. I am not sure why this unit freezes up so much but this is only one of the many times it has frozen up on me. Cobra needs to recall this unit and offer some sort of compensation for the poor, unfortunate consumers who bought this unit and were taken advantage of.

"A totally useless product that simply does not work."
on by navigator5Pros It was cheap (ebay) so it only cost me $50 to learn never to buy anything from Cobra again
Cons wont acquire sats, or takes too long then looses them, not accurate
Summary You really don't want to waste any money on this cobra100 gps because the bottom line here is that it won't work for you. It takes several minutes to acquire satelites then cheerfully looses them causing the unit to give wildly inaccurate results. Even in clear horizon situations it is very slow to acquire. I'm convinced the company must have known they had a leamon but they jerked thier customers around anyway. I wonder how many will ever buy anything with the Cobra brand on it again. Well you can't say I didn't warn you!

"Poor Performance"
on by PatDPTPros Easy to use, even without manual
Cons Poor satelite connection
Summary I have had this unit for about 24 hours (I admit, not long enough to make a proper assessment of the product.) and I have yet to establish a connection with the GPS network of satelites, despite many tries in various locations under wide-open blue skies. So far I have not been impressed by the performance.
However, the unit does provide an easy menu so that (even without the manual) you can guide yourself through all of the functions to ensure all the settings are correct and to your preference.
If my experience changes with the unit I will gladly update this evaluation...however, I am already shopping for another GPS unit.Updated
So I have had the Cobra 100 GPS for a few days now and my opinion has not changed. It still has a tough time acquiring a satellite signal even in wide-open spaces. I'm thikning of returning it, because I have just received a Magellan explorist 300 GPS receiver, and it so far BLOWS AWAY the Cobra 100 GPS receiver. The Magellan explorist 300 acquired a strong signal within a minute of powering-on, and it even works indoors and inside a moving vehicle. (The built-in detailed maps are also a plus, which the Cobra 100 does not include.)
Bottom line, for the extra $, the Magellan explorist 300 unit is far superior to the Cobra 100.
