CNET product brief
Description: The Garmin Etrex Vista CX is a 12-channel, general purpose global positioning device.Compared to other general purpose GPS receivers on the market, it is relatively inexpensive at around $240.
Pros: Is capable of storing 50 routes. Also, this GPS receiver stores 10000 tracklogs, which is more than some similarly priced GPS receivers.Utilizes WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) technology to achieve an error margin of 3 meters or less.USB computer interface makes it possible to add new programs and maps as well as store previous trips and data.Safe in all weather, this unit is waterproof.System includes MapSource trip & waypoint manager.
Cons: Has a 2 in screen size. This is not out of line with the product's price, but is less favorable than the average GPS receiver on the market today.
Suitability: A general purpose GPS receiver, suited for typical tracking and positioning tasks.Has an internal antenna which is desirable for activities where an external antenna would get in the way. This unit is lightweight, weighing in at 5.5 oz.
Value: In view of its relatively inexpensive price, this GPS receiver has good features for the money. Also note this unit is able to store up to 500 waypoints. This is in line with the average GPS device.
Suggestions: This GPS device has only internal memory. If you plan to store many trips or add base maps, you may wish to consider a unit that has removable storage media.
