"Perfect for GPS, pedometer, altimeter and more"
Pros: Easy to navigate menus, easy interface and buttons. Large display and light weight unit.
Cons: Can't hook it up to a computer or add additional memory. But it doesn't appear this will be a problem at all.
Summary: I just got the forerunner for Christmas this year (2008). I'm using rechargeable batteries and it's been working great for the last 2 hours and still going. I saw a previous post had issues with using rechargeable batteries. It doesnt seem to be a problem for me. I did notice there is an option to change from alkaline to nihm.
Features I really like so far, snowboarding and hiking I've been packing my magelin gps. The garmin forerunner 101, you can set a custom screen which for me is a huge plus, showing elevation, calories burned and total distance along with the other screens showing speed, distance etc etc etc. Including the pace, and laps this will be a huge advantage for when I'm walking, jogging, running, hiking, backpacking, and snowboarding or skiing. Tons of features and super light weight and only uses 2 AA's.
I personally think this might be one of the best kept secrets out there for the price!!
