"Inexpensive, easy to use"
4.5 starson by timetestPros: easy to use, has backlight
Cons: Manual is acceptable but could be better.
Summary: This is a way better buy than the 201. The 201 can be hooked up to a computer but only with a "serial" cable not usb. The watch stores years of data anyway. It uses regular AAA batteries but you could buy rechargables and have the other "advantage" of the 201.
Updated
Tried to use rechargable in the Forerunner 101 and the device would not function for more than a few seconds. Confirmed with Garmin that rechargable NMHI batteries will not work.

I just got the forerunner for Christmas this year (2008). I'm using rechargeable batteries and it's been working great for the last 2 hours and still going. Not sure what happened in the situation with the previous post. I did notice there is an option to change from alkaline to nihm.
