"Cool features - but unreliable."

Pros

Auto lap at distance or time intervals; customizable screens

Cons

Takes too long to find satellites; Horrible reliabilty -- 2 broke within 75 days

The Forerunner 205 is a great concept, but I seems more like a prototype than a released product.

The functionality is very good - tracking courses, distance, pace, time, speed, laps... about 20 parameters logged. Its got multiple training and history modes. The distance, time and auto lap functions were most useful. Screens are customizable.

It takes minutes to locate satellites. I realized that the sync time was shorter if I took the watch off and left it still on the ground outside while I stretched.

However I rate the unit so poorly because of reliability. My first unit died after about 2 weeks of use -- hissed then went dead. I got a replacement that lasted about 45 days, then the battery stopped working. The device says its charged, but goes blank as soon as I disconnect the charger.

Overall, this is a great concept, but it doesn't seem like the product is ready for prime time. I'm returning it and waiting for the next generation.

"Every runner on a tight budget should buy this watch"

5 stars  | on by CodeBrown20

Pros

Once I have recieved the signal I have not lost it while running.
Will tell you really fast when you got lost on a premade course.
Keeps me motivated by following my progess on the computer.
Big screen easy to read.
Virtual runner is amazing.

Cons

there is no heart rate monitor
You cannot use a foot pod
not wireless like the 405

Summary

This product overall is a must buy for any runner on a budget. I don't know how I ran outside ever without it. It is like treadmill running without the treadmill. It keeps my pace time distance and when I should finish.

"Good product. Poor Support"

1.5 stars  | on by ebassham

Pros

Lots of the features that I wanted

Cons

Tech Support will not respond

Summary

The Forerunner 205 wants to access the registry in Windows Vista and Vista will not let it. Tech Support will not respond with a fix for this problem. As a result, I cannot use the Training Center.
