Summary: Though a relatively cheap price point is sure to entice, several gaps in functionality make the GPSMAP 76 somewhat undesirable. It is functional if PC connectivity isn't paramount, but for the most part it's worth paying more for the extra features.

Description: The Garmin GPSMAP 76 is a 12-channel, general purpose global positioning device.Compared to other general purpose GPS receivers on the market, it is relatively inexpensive at around $170.
Pros: Utilizes WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) technology to achieve an error margin of 3 meters or less.Serial computer interface makes it possible to add new programs and maps as well as store previous trips and data.Tracklog function automatically creates a record of the path traveled and stores it as a series of points for later use.Safe in all weather, this unit is waterproof.System includes Garmin marine point database (Americas) and Garmin Americas highway basemap.
Cons: Stores 2048 tracklogs, which is considerably fewer than some similarly priced GPS receivers.
Suitability: A general purpose GPS receiver, suited for typical tracking and positioning tasks.Has an internal antenna which is desirable for activities where an external antenna would get in the way.
Value: In view of its relatively inexpensive price, this GPS receiver has good features for the money.Also note this unit is able to store up to 500 waypoints.This is in line with the average GPS device.Device is covered by a 1 year warranty.
Suggestions: This GPS device has only internal memory.If you plan to store many trips or add base maps, you may wish to consider a unit that has removable storage media.
