CNET product brief
Description: The Garmin GPSMAP 76CSX is a 12-channel, multi purpose global positioning device.Compared to other multi purpose GPS receivers on the market, it is midpriced at around $325.
Pros: Is capable of storing 50 routes, which is more than some similarly priced GPS receivers.Utilizes WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) technology to achieve an error margin of 3 meters or less.Serial computer interface makes it possible to add new programs and maps as well as store previous trips and data.Tracklog function automatically creates a record of the path traveled and stores it as a series of points for later use.Waterproof receiver stands up to the elements.System includes MapSource trip & waypoint manager.
Cons: Has a 2.6 in screen size. This is not out of line with the product's price, but is less favorable than the average GPS receiver on the market today.
Suitability: A variable-use GPS receiver, suited for a variety of activities.Has an internal antenna which is desirable for activities where an external antenna would get in the way. This unit is somewhat heavy, weighing in at 7.6 oz.
Value: In general, this GPS receiver has good features for the money. Also note this unit is able to store up to 1000 waypoints. This is significantly more than the average GPS device.
Suggestions: This GPS device has only internal memory. If you plan to store many trips or add base maps, you may wish to consider a unit that has removable storage media.
