CNET product brief
Description: The Garmin GPSMAP 76CX is a 12-channel, general purpose global positioning device.Compared to other general purpose GPS receivers on the market, it is midpriced at around $300.
Pros: Is capable of storing 50 routes, which is more than some similarly priced GPS receivers.WAAS-ready GPS device accepts radio signals which can help increase accuracy of positioning data to within 3 meters.Share information, update database maps, and add programs using this receiver's serial computer connection.Tracklog function automatically creates a record of the path traveled and stores it as a series of points for later use.Waterproof receiver stands up to the elements.System includes MapSource trip & waypoint manager.
Cons: Has a 2.6 in screen size, which is somewhat less favorable than some similarly priced GPS receivers. For example, the Garmin Nuvi 255Watt, a 12-channel GPS receiver at around $325, has a 4.3 in screen size.
Suitability: Ideal for the entry level user.Has an internal antenna which is desirable for activities where an external antenna would get in the way. This unit is somewhat heavy, weighing in at 7.6 oz.
Value: Overall, this GPS receiver has good features for the money. Also note this unit is able to store up to 1000 waypoints. This is significantly more than the average GPS device.
Suggestions: This GPS device has only internal memory. If you plan to store many trips or add base maps, you may wish to consider a unit that has removable storage media.
