    "Very Good, But not great"

    by lilsim89 on March 21, 2005

Pros: Awesome graphics, cutting edge features

    Cons: Software is very "buggy"

Summary: The card is wonderful. Lots of available inputs/outputs. The VPU is fast and very responsive. Graphic detail is excellent.

When I bought it, I did expect more until I upgraded the drivers and software. Whew! The included software is old and "buggy"

The Catalyst Control Center is wonderful in most ways. It is very customizable and detailed. But loading the C.C. is pretty slow.

Running Counter-Strike was a blast. Same with Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. The Video card put my S3 ProSavage DDR to shame (STAY AWAY FROM S3). Half-Life 2 played very well. When I played Doom 3, the frame rate dropped to about 35fps at 1024x768. (Ok, I guess)

The Multimedia Center needs better integration and less bugs.

The Remote Wonder is a wonder! It is very customizable and easy to use. It has 3rd party plug-ins available for iTunes, WMP, etc. It INCLUDES plug-ins for Powerpoint,Guide Plus+ (which is included).

Speaking of Guide Plus+, it is VERY buggy and loses the mouse in the window all the time.

DVD are exceptional and very realistic. The DVD player included is very well done.

The T.V. is not very crisp and I wish it was better quality. I can record shows at DVD quality and burn it with the included software which is a full studio!

The integration comes in with "Easylook". I have to give it to ATI. They did a good job and deserve a pat on the back. Easylook is a "Media Center" looking software that looks very good and actually works (most of the time).

My card came with a rebate for $30 and to my suprise, it came. Excuse me, I am not used to having companies follow through with their rebates.

This ATI card and it's whole family can be overclocked with 3rd party software like Radlinker semi-safely. (Take caution)

Overall, the Video card has it's ups and downs. It runs smooth, looks great, is bundled with good, but buggy software, and is able to be overclocked. I am glad I bought and reccommened it to all of you looking to buy a do-it-all video card.
