Definitely not for gamersby - May 20, 2004
Pros: Cheap and economical
Cons: If anyone is looking for a little above average performance for gaming, forget it. THis is definitely not for them. Initially asked around and had received very positive response on Radeon overall. Even the retailer recommended this over Nvidia Geforce 4.

people still use macs?by - June 18, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Mac users, like in school, "do your homework!" certian cards 4 certain computers (and macs too). I have the SDRAM model and it works F**king great on my old, slow 750 AMD W/512mb of ram, only problem I have is I can't get my TV to work with it???? oh well, It does more than it needs to for me anyways. Good product for the price ($49).

Good product for priceby - June 18, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: It works awesome with the TV Out. I watch alot of movies and it does the trick. I'm not a big gammer. I mostly use consoles for that but even so I can play all games I've ever installed without any lag. I hook it up to my TV and my 13 inch monitor goes to 27.

TV-out is *****by - June 18, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Sapphire Radeon 7000. TV-out is poor quality compared with my Matrox card. The vertical height will not go large enough to fill the screen so are left with a black line top and bottom. Also picture stability is poor. I use the pc as a video recorder a so wanted go TV-out, this card can not supply that. Until now I've been using a Matrox G550 and should have bought a second but was put off by cost. They say "Buy cheap buy twice" should read "crap".

Great for all games except NFS High stakesand NFS 2by - March 10, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: The reason is because these games are not officially supported by this card. The "3D Device Setup" utility indicates that the device is "Direct3D Device 1(n)" (where n is a number, such as 1), It means that the game is run on a device that is not officially supported. All the other games like Quake3,Flanker 2 and GP500 run very well with no probems.

Stable and great graphicsby - December 5, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Too bad that Starsiege_junkie had to play with the review stats (31 reposts? sheesh!). The Hydravision is an interesting novelty, not necessary, but cute. The only problems I have had are with "Red Ace" game on higher than 800 X 600 resolution or when stretching the 3D to the max on sky elevation after several minutes of play on any series. Memory is stretched to the max and screen starts to jump frames. Reducing axis elevation in game attack approach immediately stabilizes screen. But I bought this card for general use and really like the overall performance. ATI's added CD file play and digital music play is very buggy, just like Windows Media Player. Neither will play some files, while Winamp ticks away on every one of them. I gave a 5 on support just because I suggested that they offer an updated CD driver package to registered buyers so we do not have to sort through all the uninstalls and reinstalls. No one does, but I am a dreamer. They did not seem to like the idea. I may purchase another card for my son, now that I seem to have a handle on the driver upgrades.

onboard Chipset compatibilityby - November 29, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Anyone runnin computers with onboard chipsets(graphic)better know their systems.Especially the part where it says *disable*onboards.I bought into the ATI advertising because I needed an affordable PCI mainstream graphics card to give my aging 766Celeron a boost.I originally bought a Hercules Prophet 4000 XT 64 meg PCI card and let me tell ya...IT ROCKED for a lot of older games. However,I got 2 new games, and the ole Herc wouldn't cut it.In I go to the Vid card store....I buy the ATI 7000 Radeon,It is Hardware Transform and Lighting capable and looks simple to install.Only one thing missing,ATI doesn't tell you the card is not compatible with some systems and their onboard graphics chipsets!!!!%$#@%$#@%$# I found out the hard way that IBM and all their ultimate wisdom installed the 810E chipsets in their NetVIsta A20i Lines...Wellllll turns out there is yet another problem with this lovely POS!!! Bad enough I couldn't run ANY of my oldest games on the stock system, but now it turns out that ATI created a card that was not compatible to this or other certain Onboard chipsets. My hope is,since I am now stuck with this card, will ATI creat drivers that WILL work for my system?ATI phone support told me just to buy another different card...OY VEY!!!!

Incredible value!by - November 22, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I can sympathize with those who complain about this card. My first attempt at installing the ATI 7000 card was very problematic: I couldn't play games because the full-screen mode would lock up my PC. Their support line is NOT toll free and their support personnel don't like spending much time on a call. However, after a few months of suffering, I installed the latest Catalyst drivers and oh-my-goodness. It knocks my socks off! I had an old nVidia GeForce card with 32 megs of RAM that burned out. The 7000 is an amazing replacement. Cheap as dirt. I think I paid under $60 for it. Textures and details show up in games I never knew existed. I got a serious performance boost. Not just in games but in standard Windows apps. You take a chance installing ANY video card or driver. This one is definitely worth the risk. All the nVidia cards I looked at require AGP 2.0. I have an older Dell Dimension 800 Mhz PC with AGP 1.1 which limited my choices. If you're like me, ATI becomes your best bet.

Big improvement on K6-2 350mhz (on one-person shooter games mostly)by - November 21, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Bought it for RM170 (US$ 44.74) and quite satisfy with overall.running on K6-2 350Mhz w/128MB RAM and it delivered maxiumum performance of the K6-2. I have tried the following games with WinXP. All stated are MINIMUM requirements * Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit II (slow gameplay, needs PIII 450) * Star Wars II Jedi Night Outcase (A BIG IMPROVEMENT! Though lagging abit during fights but oke. Needs PII 450,OpenGL) * Sum of All Fears (Good playback,PII 450) * Grand Theft Auto III (slightly faster than NFS:HPII,occasional 'stop-and-load' scenes, PIII 450Mhz) * FIFA 2001 (The best gets better, even my old Intel i740 8MB runs smoothly already) Realibility? You need to download the latest drivers if your Win2K/XP keeps hanging during a 3D game.Better installation support than nVidia for sure. My vendor tried installing GF2 MX400 on Win2K and end up me being frustrated after 2 hrs of trying. Comparison - Runs better than my friend's AMD k6-2 533 and Celeron 366. Both using integrated video chips. They had extremely poor gameplay in Star Wars that they can't even point the mouse properly in the menu. Improvement to GTA III, though still needs more to processor power to satisfy. My verdict? Star Wars and Sum of All Fears are example one-person shooter games and are best for low performance processors and gamers finding cheaper budget to extend their PC life. Racing games are a big no-no unless you are prepared for slow framerates (though not extremely slow). Therefore I recommend this video card because it gives big improvement, even for power-hungry racing games.

R.I.P. -> NVIDIA TNT2 M64 and Cirrus Logic Laguna 5465by - November 19, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: This card is AMAZING!! Runs on my old AMD-K6-II FLAWLESSLY!!! Amazing graphics and superb software with DVD suite and VCD software! Catalist software is fantastic! Hardware acceleration pushes my system to perform HARD while maintaining 100% stability in Windows 2000 Professional. A great card for your buck!! Could not find ANY card out there that beats the video quality of the 1st 1999 Cirrus Logic Laguna 5465 AGP2X video card when playing back MPEG's, AVI, or DVD. Even the NVIDIA TNT2 M64 could not even compare. In fact.... it was WORSE than the Cirrus Logic Laguna 5465! Full OpenGL support with DirectX8.1 support and future release support of DirectX 9!! ATI Rules!! My very first ATI card was the ATI Rage IIC (PCI) 4MB card. Grew up with ATI, will stay with them 4ever!

Unstable, unstable, unstable!!!by - November 13, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I have a Compaq 5000 series, origionally came with a VIA VT82C686 chipset, Athalon 1ghz proccessor, 256 SDRAM, a 250 watt power supply, WinME, and an integrated proSavage for video, and some crummy SoundMax chip for audio. Of course, any power user won't keep it that way.

I didn't like ME's instability, so I uninstalled it in favor of 98SE, which is far better in stability. Next, in order to have audio support for all games, as well as a joystick port for my older Sidewinder 3D Pro, Saitek Cyborg, CH Flightstick Pro, ect, I installed a Soundblaster PCI512. Works great!! But when it came to upgrading the graphics, I was attracted to the price and advertized features of the Radeon 7000 w/ 32MB DDR memory onboard. Here is my horror story: I uninstalled the drivers for the proSavage, then installed the latest VIA 4in1 driver pack, then performed the install for the Radeon. Went flawlessly. Then after a little tweaking, I booted up Quake II and played a random level. Instantly I noticed the huge boost in performance and graphics quality. Then the card suddenly went to sleep and refused to respond. ***?! After turning the computer off, the on again, (the only way to get out of the lockup) I try Serious Sam. I get a display freeze in the middle of the intro. Again, I'm forced to reach for the power switch... That has happened randomly while trying to use IE, OE, Word, even Notepad! Trying different drivers, even upgrading the power to 400 watts and the system ram to 512 hasn't helped the stability issues with this card. ATI's support was dismal at best. Graphics and speed score a 10. Stability scores a 2. Support gets a 0.4. No, ATI, I'm not buying a Radeon 9000. Pass me a Geforce, let's see if that's stable.

Great card, pity about the TV !by - September 23, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Got this card as I was after a duel with TV out. didn't know until I instaled it that the TV out replaces the second monitor and only at 800x600 res at that. usually have both monitor up at 1024x768 - connect up the TV out wire to an comp in on a video or TV and the second screen dimms to show this and the TV pic comes up, but only if the second screen is set to 800x600 otherwise the TV display is just a fuzz not pic. Pity really as I really wanted a duel head + TV out, like three heads (?). Gave support a 2 as I haven't had any, despite my emails.

Superb value...with proper setupby - August 27, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Most negative reviews of the Radeon 64mb that involve rendering/frame rate problems are most definitely due to PC setup, i.e. Memory(a big one), CPU speed, OS, HD speed. i had originally installed this card with a 1Gig cpu, 256 ddr, and a 6gig 5700rpm HD on 98SE. MOHAA and Max Payne ran poorly on modest settings. Fast forward to today: 1.4 Gig CPU, 512mb ddr, 40gig 7200 rpm HD and the ATi Radeon 7000 is a SMOKER! I'm not suggesting 350 bones to make your AGP work, but the single most important change you can make is MORE MEMORY! 128 mb sdram isnt going to cut it, not with todays games and drivers. 256mb ddr didnt cut it, i couldnt even install wolfenstein! the Radeon is ddr ram, you should have ddr memory and a ddr MO. Warcraft III with the s@*t hitting the fan runs smooth as silk on the ATi Radeon.

Pros:
Cons:
Review: I kinda got this card for free from my boss so no loss, except time. When I fired up tribes 2 it was very obvious that the nvidia chip has better and smoother rendering. The textures looked kinda washed and there was a slight pause every 30 seconds or so. If you play any type of FPS games you know that that type of pause is unaceptable. Putting my good ole G-Force 2 GTS back in. Anybody who says this is the best card for the money is wrong in my opinion. I'd rather have a gf2 mx200 for less than 30 bucks. This is a decent cardby - June 3, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: This is the second Ati card I have owned. Ati is not by far the best, however it works good for its price. I payed 100$ for this card as opposed to 150$ for a geforce 3 ti 200 128 mb ram. And at first I was disappointed for not doing any research on this specific card, however after installing it (straightforwared install and quick) and playin gmy game on it. I was very astonished. The lighting was drawn out great. The utilities are nice with the card. However it doen'st have the cool fan on it. That tells me it most likely does not clock as fast as the geforce cards do.(core clock speed and mem speed) However with enough fans in my computer I anticipate some nice overclocking. =) To all of you who are saying straighup this card sucks cuz it crashes my computer or what have you. Should take a deeper look into your systems and isolate more than 1 issue with the computer. not just in the card itself. =) Good luck to you all...this is just my 2 cents worth.

ATI Stomps All Over GeForce2by - April 12, 2002

Review: Ok, what's with all the hype on GeForce cards these days? I mean let's face it, who wants to spend crazy amounts of money just to keep up to par with computers now-a-days? How about the people running systems slower than 450MHz? I have an AMD-300MHz system with 384MB RAM and have tried the 64MB GeForce2 MX400 because of it's advertisement... what a crock! My 8MB ATI PCI ran my games better! Then I go ahead and try the Radion 64MB - Wow, no contest it won hands down... great card for the average 3D user, and for under $100, you can't go wrong. Except if you expect performance on a dual monitor setup like Mr. Swan does... just a note to Mr. Swan; Get the proper video card for a dual VGA monitor setup running OS-X. Nowhere is it advertised that it will support it. Maybe some of us should learn how to read before we buy products. Try the Matrox G550 32MB DDR Dual, I have it running here at work on two SVGA monitors running OS-X. Works smooth.

Review: The specs are impressive, but nothing works. My PPC 7300/G4/450mhz lock up constantly. No support from the Ati helpdesk. It looks like Ati created this card to run under MacOs X/classic mode. I put the card back into the deliver box.

By Far the best...by - April 9, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: This was my first videdo card I bought beecause uptil now they were integrated into the motherboard. I currently own the Radeon VE Dual Display Edition 64mb DDR Ram of this which is better than anything. My monitor can only support at max about 75 hertz refresh rate. When I try to make it higher it wonj't work, but when I got this ATI card the drivers were such that it maded it seem like 200 hertz! That more than double the refresh rate. It has the Hydravision suppot so you have different dedsktops for different like it is in Unix based OS's. Everything is great by my point of view, it delivers almost 55 frames/second when I play games which might not even be the max. This card is the best! It's DVD "Playability," is very good and when it gets the input and has to convert it to a different format or resolution it does that very well. Mine has 3 outputs, including S-Video, and 2 for monitors!

Review: I'm facing the problem of performance in 3d, especialy at a high resolution of 1024*768, I had an ATI 128 pro, it had almost the same power of the radeon 7000

Not whay I expected.by - March 12, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I purchased this card because of its dual monitor claim and also to use with OS X but with my beige G3 both are out of the question. After several messages to ATI I did get a call from the support (hence the "2" for support although I feel it should be a "1") but could not get the DVI to VGA adapter to work, even with a single monitor. I am currently using the on board vidoe for one monitor and the "7000" for another single monitor and it has been rock solid with it (hence the "4" for quality). After reading of someone receiving a patch from ATI support that enabled them to use the DVI to VGA adapter successfully, I have tried repeatedly to get a response from ATI support to see if I could obtain the same. So far, no response. Were I able to get a response from ATI support that enabled a second monitor to work, I would give this card a "thumbs up" even without being able to use OS X.

Not Great... Not Bad.by - March 12, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: It was a pain to install untill I ignored the drivers that came with it. Once I threw those out it worked fine but it is slow as crud without the custom drivers. If you just need a cheap card to drive a second monitor at high resolutions like me, you could do worse I guess. Doc.

What a nightmareby - March 12, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: It's hard to really give this card a review because I never could get it to run in a stable fashion on my Pm9600/G4/450 and dual 850 20" Applevision monitors. It froze my computer constantly no matter what I did. I was running it with a Nexus 128 which remained rock solid even with the 7000 drivers, but the 7000 woulkd lock up everytime I moved anything to it's screen. I suspect the drivers need to be improved for older legacy machines, which I would think would be this card's prime market. After countless hours of moving PCI cards and the like, I sent it back and returned to my old and stable Exclaim 3D Pro. Too bad.......maybe when they upgrade the drivers I'll give it another chance.

does not deliver advertised value....by - March 12, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: ATI has managed to avoid publicity so far of the fact that this card is essentially useless on any beige G3. On a beige G3, it will not boot OS X, and it will not do dual VGA monitors....these are things that I bought the card specifically for. These issues have existed since the cards release and we have yet to see a driver update from ATI. NOT IMPRESSED.
