"Great Product that has some minor problems" on by drjuanbosch

Pros: VGA Screen, Wifi, Bluetooth, Windows Mobile, Included Software, Option for extra battery

Cons: Intermittent need to do soft reset

Summary: I must say I was doubtful about getting a Dell Axim after being on Palm OS for many years, but I am now a convert.

The system has a beautiful screen that makes video and pictures come alive. The included software (Pocket Word/Excel/Power Point, Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player) and Dell added programs make the X51v a great system.

The only downsides are that you have to do intermittent soft resets after the machine goes into power save mode. In addition, the boot sequence takes a little bit of time.

However, Im not so worried about that because Microsoft has been regularly updating their PDA OS and just like the Axim 50v, the 51v will only get better when they work out the kinks.

Battery life problem solved. I own the Dell Axim X50 and I also had to do a soft reset after it had been turned off for any extended time. The battery would just drain. I read on aximsite.com a solution which really works. You need to turn off ActiveSync before you turn off your Axim. When powering down: Start, Settings, System, Memory, Running Programs, ActiveSync, STOP. Turn off your Axim and it will amazingly retain it's battery life. It works on the X51 also. Give it a try!

I enjoy the clear screen, but the frequent soft reset, almost every restart up is a pain and very slow. I haven't found the battery life to be a big problem yet. I bought two and my wife doesn't have the frequent soft reset problem. Hardware problem? It is bad enough that I want to have a replacement to see if it is a hardware problem. Our programs are just about the exact duplicates with the exception of Epocrates software on mine. They have been around a long time and I had the soft reset requirement before I put on this new software.

I had the reset problem too before I took out this old SD card with some Atari games. The software worked, but it was 16 MB so maybe it's not compatible with "old" SD cards. But ever since I took it out, there were no needs for soft resets since.
