"Drive failed after 6 months and data lost!"
Pros: Initially easy to install and move files.
Lost connection to the drive, and, therefore, all my data, after 6 months so I can't recommend this at all!Cons: Drive failed after 6 months and SimpleTech said they'd replace it--with proof of purchase--but I was SOL on my data--basically negating the reason I bought it! Said I'd need to go to Best Buy and have them recover the data if I wanted it.
Summary: Wow! Really? You'll replace the drive but can't save the files I originally put on the drive to save space on my tower Hard Drive? Unbelievable!
Fortunately it failed within warranty so I can get a new one, but what's the purpose of buying an external drive if you have no confidence that the data you put on it won't be lost?
In addition, I spent 35 minutes on hold waiting for their Tech Support and when I finally got to a technician it took him about 1 minute to tell me the drive had failed and I needed to go out to their web site to get an RMA issued. As for the data on the drive, I needed to take the drive to someone who specialized in recovering data if I wanted my files back. Incredible! I buy an external drive to save important files I don't use all the time (say, like 8 years worth of family photos) and I have to go pay someone to get my data back?!
With products and Tech Support like this, I don't believe SimpleTech will be around very much longer so stay away from their products.
