"Great TV - Samsung ANYNET does not work with HDMI" on by Concerto
Pros: Great picture
Cons: Does not allow anynet connection with HDMI
Summary: I purchased this HDTV along with a Samsung HT-P50 with upscaling DVD so match the 1080i resolution of the TV - only problem is Samsung advertises you can use their propriatry Anynet conneciton to make everything work from one remote - WRONG! Anynet only works with analog connections - not with HDMI - so in other words you can have a 1080i TV and DVD from Samsung but if you want Anynet to work you must use a 480p analog connection!
Don't be fooled if you read about Anynet - it does not work for HD! SAMSUNG you need to get this right!
I feel like a Bait & Switch victim - because I purchased both products based on the advertised Anynet! -
"Awesome TV through and through" on by sal2
Pros: excellent picture, simple installation
Cons: Cable card issues
Summary: After a fair amount of comparison, I chose the Samsung LN-R408D LCD TV. Kind of an investment but worth every single penny! Installation was as simple as it can get and the picture quality is absolutely amazing. The only complication arose with the installation of the CableCard. ComCast's card(s) did not want to work (or the other way around). A cable box was the solution. Not exactly what I wanted but at least I can enjoy all the HD channels.

"Samsung Delivers" on by matthewroth
Pros: Very sharp picture. Great audio. Easy setup. Slick design
Cons: Remote sucks.Audio out is difficult to setup.
Summary: I bought this item as an open item at Best Buy. Of course the remote sensor on the tv seems flakey. Called Samsung and they sent tech out next day. Could fix it and lucky me got a brand new one at open item price of 2400. Service excellent. TV is spectacular. Im not an electronics guy and had problems setting up the audio out to theater system (tech fixed it for me) I still would of bought it at 3200. One thing is it does have the built in tuners not specified on CNET specs. TV has great menu options to fine tune ur audio and video.

"Had to trade it in..." on by rtbuell2004
Pros: Lightweight, easy interface, decent color in HDTV.
Cons: motion blurring with fast moving objects.
Summary: I purchased this TV mainly for the ps3 when it comes out. My goal was to get HDTV now, that way when the ps3 comes out, I am not buying a HDTV and the ps3. I don’t watch a lot of TV, but gaming is very important (and football). At first, I was set on a CRT. Then in the store I saw this TV on sale. I fell for the trap, the brightness was turned way up, and the picture looked great. So I went for it (shaking fist angrily).
When I got it home I noticed some “flaws”. I already knew that standard TV would look like crap, and yes it does. HDTV looked very sharp, and had great colors. I swear I was looking outside a window. However, with fast moving objects I noticed the ghosting effect, sometimes the images would linger on the screen. I keep it for a couple of days to give it a fair shake, but the ghosting started to bother me. Since I am buying this for the ps3 (when it comes out), ghosting is not acceptable. Not to mention the fact if I am paying out all this money, I don’t want to see any ghosting. ($2400 vs. $750)
So, I finally went back to the store, and looked at the CRTs again. I ended up going with the Sony 30inch wide screen HDTV. The price is a third of the cost, no motion blurring, standard TV looks MUCH better, and the color is amazing in HDTV. Not to mention CRTs are still the standard on which everything else is compared too. I think the samsung would be a good TV if you can’t notice the motion blurring, and or you aren’t using it for gaming or sports.
The only downside to a CRT is the weight, I recommend getting it delivered. If you don’t mind the weight, go CRT, if you do mind the weight, and don’t watch a lot of fast moving objects, by all means, get this TV!
Hope this helps and happy shopping. -
"Amazing TV" on by alway2
Pros: Clear crisp and deep color
Cons: expensive compared to other brands
Summary: I saw this TV displayed side-by-side with a same size Sharp AQUOS. Samsung LCD TV's screen provided a much more clear and crisp image as well as deep color. Compared to Samsung's, Sharp's TV screen looked dull and washed out. I guess Samsung TV's high contrast ratio (3000:1 - high for a LCD TV) and DNIe technology made a winner.
