"Here's a Trick To Make Jawbone Fit & Stay In Your Ear Better!"
Pros: Noise cancellation works great!
Cons: bulky and hard to make stationary on your ear - until now!
Summary: Ok, for those of you that have the Jawbone or are looking to purchase it, let?s face it ? it?s the best on the market period! The noise cancelling it can do is simply phenomenal! I know since I have had them all from Jabra, Motorolla, Plantronics, etc. We have all been there, if you are in your car, airport, or outside the background noise makes it very difficult for the other person to hear you. If you want to solve that, get the Jawbone!
Now for the problem. The biggest complaint is that it is hard to get the Jawbone to stay in your ear, get on your ear, or feel comfortable in your ear.
Now for the fix. Buy some spare Jabra EarGels from the Jabra website under "Accessories" at $7 for a packet of 6! Jabra EarGels are designed to channel sound directly into the ear for perfect reception, so conversations sound clear and natural at both ends of the call. They are made of a translucent soft material shaped to sit snugly in your ear for a comfortable and secure fit. Jabra EarGels are hygienic and washable and come six in a pack - three sizes for left and right ears.
**The Jabra EarGels are molded to fit an ear perfectly and they will fit over the current round rubber earbud from Jawbone! That?s right, keep the round black rubber earbud from Jawbone on the earpiece and then slide the Jabra EarGel over it. Both earbud and EarGel fit snug together and the holes line up perfect! Now you can take off the metal Jawbone earloop. Now place it in your ear. Ah ha, notice it stays solid in your ear and the sound is louder for you to hear. Also with a more secure fit, the Jawbone?s voice activation sensor stays snug against your cheek. You can now even take off the Jawbone's tricky earloop since the Jabra EarGel makes the Jawbone stay put in your ear. Without having to use the earloop, you can take the Jawbone on and off your ear fast.
I hope this has helped everyone.

I just purchased the EarGels today on Amazon.com. Excited to try them!

You can also use MiniGels (fits Jabra earWave). I was looking all over for the EarGels and no one had. They were only available on line Some for $60.00 WOW! Well because I'm not a fool I keep looking. I went into a Verizon store and they had the Mini Gels for $2.50 . They fit like they were made for the Jawbone 2. No added work and I didn't need to put it over a rubber round piece that came with Jawbone. I sounds great. It works with my JB2 perfect, Sound is louder. Great fix!!! Hope this helps. I have an extra set if someone needs it. :-)

I had read about this elsewhere but hadn't figured out how to keep the Jabra eargel from coming loose, duh...it's so simple - I was thinking of crazy gluing it. Anyway, keeping the round black rubber earbud did the trick, but I must add one piece of info. When I tried to adjust the eargel by twisting, I accidentally tore off the rubber from the rigid plastic ring inside the black rubber earbud. It turns out this is an even better fit as the round rubber earbud was almost a forced thing. So I left the plastic ring and put the Jabra eargel and I find in my case it fits better. I'm not saying this is the case for you so don't purposely tear it off unless it happens by accident or unless you have an extra round bud (which I did have but didn't need to use it).

I got the Jabra ear gels that you described.. Wow, what a difference. Maybe my Jawbone headset will FINALLY stay in my ear like it's supposed to! Thanks for the advice..

I could not find accessories under jabra to order the jabra ear gels (pack of 6) for $7 to fit my jawbone II. Can you please help or direct me to another website and let me know what jabra ear gel I should order.
Thanks for you help. -
Like a lot of people, I love the Jawbone2, but have difficulty with the comfortableness of the earpiece and ear loop. It simply did/does not feel secure.
So I did a search and found this website thru a posting on another forum and have placed an order thru this company for a custom made earpiece made specifically to fit the contours of my ear and to fit onto the Jawbone2.
Here is the website for those interested:

I've looked on the Jawbone site but can't find the Eargels. I'm going to Radio Shack later but would order them off the Jawbone site to send to other people I've ordered this for.

Unlike the first generation Jawbone which kept falling off even with a $65 custom earmold, the second generation STAYS PUT. No muss, no fuss!!

I read some of the comments that said not to buy the ear gels and was in my normal fashion compelled to do the opposite.
I went to Radio Shack and found that they no longer carry them and that in fact I was told that they have had about 8 other people come in and ask for the same thing this month for the exact same reason.
I thought oh well I will just go to Verizon. I found that they carry the small ones that look like a tear drop and the large ones that look like something for a hearing aid that goes in your ear.
I bought the ones that were larger at $3.00 and not the small ones that obviously would not work. I brought them home and found that there are several sizes to fit your ear. I picked the best one for me and tried to fit it over the round ear adapter but found it did not really fit well. I did not want to superglue the new ear gel to the Jawbone since that would destroy the plastic and in the event I wanted to change from left to right ear I would not be able to do so.
I sat and looked at the parts I had in front of me and thought of an idea. I chose the most uncomfortable ear adapter from Jawbone that I knew I would never use and used a razor to remove all of the flexible material ultimatly leaving only the hard plastic lock adapter. I then put this piece inside the new ear gel and put it in my ear with the Jawbone attatched.
I adjusted the Jawbone to the right angle that I felt was comfortable then carefully removed it from my ear and they applied presure with my thumb and index finger to the gel piece and the Jawbone adapter and unlock it from the Jawbone. I then made note of the position of the black plastic lock piece inside the new ear gel and removed it. I then applied the super glue to the eargel and put the Jawbone adapter back into the new ear gel. I made sure it is in the proper position and let the glue set. I then installed this new eargel assembly to the Jawbone and man this is AWESOME it fits better and in fact fits SOOOOO well that I dont even need to use the wire ear loop anymore. I have tried to make this fall out by jumping, running, climbing and shaking and found at no time did the Jawbone lose contact with my head or ever feel like it was going to fall out. I also hear people better than before since this ear gel sends the voices directly to my ear canal.
If you need more clarity on how I did it I can do my best to instruct you and maybe even take pictures.
My advice is that this is a sure fire modification that needs to be done and should be done by Aliph. If Aliph were to perform this MOD the system would be flawless right from the box. -
They don't really work. I tried many of the suggestions from others the jawbone simply hangs from the eargel piece and it's prompt to fall. The best way I'm using this piece is with the earbuds that came with the jawbone and not earloop. There are a couple of the earbuds that are shapped like a tear drop, one medium and one larger size. These fit really good in my ear and it's able to stay without the earloop. The problem with the earloop is that everytime your turn your head to the left(in my case I use it on the left ear)like to change lanes in traffic, the earloop pushes the jawbone out of my ear. So I just took it out and it works fine. Every so often you have to push in, but that was true with the eargels since they don't fit tightly on the jawbone. There is no way anything "press on" or put by pressure can stay solid on your ear for a long time. Movement will cause it get loose. So, as with any you have to adjust it from time to time. I spent $8 for the Jabra eargels from hellodirect.com which was great including shipping and it got to me the very next day, but the Jabra are intented for Jabra earphones that of course have wires that shoud they felt out they would just hang from it. So you take some risk by not having the earloop but even with it the jawbone is prompt to fell out.

I live in Sydney, Australia and I just can't seem to find any way I can get these ear buds to me! Not Ebay, Amazon and certainly not the Jabra website which appears to have joined with "GN" and doesn't seem to even be functioning properly!
If you know any way I could get a set of these earbuds, please let me know as I would be much appreciated! -
Has anyone gotten a response as to which type of Jabra ear pieces? The EAR Gels are very different than the MINI Gels! And as of right now, you CANNOT purchase any of these on the Jabra website...in fact, there is no "Accessories" section on the site anymore. I called Jabra directly, and they said to go thru one of their authorized dealers to purchase the ear pieces, and THAT list IS on their site.

Dear Noonan30,
What earbuds did you use as I see there are more styles available...
Thank you in advance for your help and assistance with my question.

I purchased a Jawbone a few months ago. I returned it because it wasnt loud enough and didn't sit right on my ear.
I read your "trick" and bought it again and the jabra earjells......great idea...perfect....
One little note - the rubber end ripped off of the little metal locking thing inside the ear pieces. So I ripped the rest of it off and the jabra jells sit even better on the metal locking ring. Tighter fit.
Thanx again - i am officially no longer looking for the best headset. The quest is over!!!! -
I love this bluetooth. The sound is never an issue from either party. I did buy the ear gels and it does works great! It's much easier taking it off and putting it on compared to the awkward ear piece that came with the bluetooth. I can't recommend the quality of this enough. The noise reduction was the biggest selling point for me and I'm glad I bought it! No other bluetooth compares.

After reading these posts, I went to the local Electronics Shack and bought some Jabra Gels. The fit was perfect, both in my ear and on the device.
I had to use the Large Gel, and this cause a problem with the vibration detection tab on the front of the jawbone. This caused my speech to pop in and out because there was not enough pressure against my cheek.
I noticed that the ear clip channel in the jawbone is spring loaded and applies pressure for the front of the jawbone against my cheek.
The Jabra solution may be fine if you use the smaller sizes, but I think i'll stick to the #3 earpiece(the one that came with the jawbone) with the clip. -
Whoever discovered putting the Jabra eargels on the Jawbone is a genius! Works perfectly and stays put! I was impressed the performace of the Jawbone but very disappointed with the fit. Now that I've hybridized it, I'm completely happy with it. The Jabra eargels eliminate the need for the earloop and make it much easier to put on.

ok, heres more on the Jabra gel plus Jawbone. First, i don't know how noonan got the gels to stay attached to the round earpiece once it was in the ear. i could not fit the gel over the round rubber earpiece that attaches to the jawbone, however, i got a wonderful fit with the Jabra paced over the the jawbone speaker (no round earpiece). But, you will have to place the gel in your ear first and then attach your Jawbone with the earloop. Now that's an awesome comfortable fit. the noise detection nub is in place and your calls out and in are crystal. if you use your Jawbone this way, you will never have to touch the earpiece to adjust the volume. I am pretty sure that's the way Aliph intended it to work but they fell short on the actual conection to the ear canal. i love it now. i think it's just about flawless. it would be nice if Aliph teamed up with Jabra to make these ear gels especially for the Jawbone.

There are two types of Jabra ear gels, the teardrop shaped ones and the round ones with two protrusions that sit in the ear canal. Please tell me which type you are referring to. Thanks!

I just wanted to thank Noonan30. Got the Jabra EarGel per Noonan30's suggestion. I was not personally able to slip the EarGel over even the smallest Jawbone earbud. Instead, I did the following. I separated the rubber portion of the bud from the plastic disk to which it is attached. The plastic disk is the part of the earbud that latches the earbud to the main headphone unit. I then placed the disk inside the EarGel. It fit perfectly. I then attached the EarGel onto the main unit and just as Noonan30 stated, it fit perfectly. Unlike the allegedly brilliant design of the out-of-the-box Jawbone, this revised version actually stays in one place even when I am not. When I was using the out-of-the-box earpiece buds and earloop, the rubber piece that is located on the inside of the main unit and that needs to rest against your jaw for optimal performance, kept slipping from my jaw and was free-floating. It was rarely where it was supposed to be. As the earloop slid around my ear, the rubber piece was displaced from my jawbone. No more. With the EarGel, everything is snug. Great idea Noonan30. Perhaps Jawbone needs to hire you for its V2.0. By the way, I signed up with CNET Reviews just to thank you and to let everyone else know how well this works. Finally, while you can order the EarGel from Jabra for $6 shipping is close to $13, bringing the price tag up to near $20. After looking at several stores I finally found them at RadioShack for $7. I guess that store is still good for something.
Thank again. -
I tried your trick with the Jabra eargels and it works GREAT. A couple of notes: Yes, you do need to remove the Jawbone earbud to be able to put on the Jabra Eargels. You also need to remove the earloop as well otherwise putting it on and off is nearly impossible (and it prevents the voice activity sensor from touching your cheek to activate the noise cancellation). Without the earloop the headset was easy to put on and off, held in my ear very well and the noise cancellation worked great. The eargel also improved the sound quality immensely. (note: I do not work for or have any interest in either Jawbone or Jabra...) I also like the ability to connect to your computer with the USB for charging (integral to the charger that comes with the unit). I would like to see an Automobile Charger option however. Thanks for your tip, Noonan30! The eargels solved the only problem I had with the Jawbone.
-
I love the headset and the only complaint has been the ear piece rotating. Thanks
-
This trick works great, although given the rigidity of the Jawbone's stock earbud, it does take a good amount of fine tuning. Once the Jabra ear gel is in place though, it firmly plants the Jawbone in my ear. I don't know why other headset manufacturers don't make a earbud like Jabra's - it is a superior design (must be patented).
-
By the way, the person who posted the first comment must work for Jawbone. There's no way in !@#$ you can fit a Jabra gel over the Jawbone. You can take the Jawbone ear "gel" (not really a gel, hard plastic really) off and put the Jabra one in its place, but there's no way the Jabra fits OVER the one that comes with the Jawbone.
-
This thing is terrible. What a gimmick. The noise cancellation works great. Too bad it doesn't fit any normal person's ear. There is NO WAY they tested this thing. Even just looking at it I could tell it would never fit a normal person's ear, and after trying it today I proved myself right.
About 10 minutes ago, the ear hook that goes into the earpiece actually broke off.
Don't waste your money. Wait and see if Jawbone Version 2 looks any different. If it has a flexible ear insert like the Jabra BT250, then buy it. If it looks the same as this one, skip it. It'll never fit right, and people complain about how "weird" my voice sounds. -
Noonan30 was definitely right about the Jabra eargels working. I couldn't get the eargel from Jabra to fit over the round earbud included with the Jawbone without it feeling like it was going to split and be useless, but I found out that if you remove the earbud and instead slide the Jabra eargel directly over earbud mount that it works perfectly. The only problem is that the eargel was not designed to stay on the Jawbone permanently, but isn't something that a little hot glue can't fix. Calls are louder and the Jawbone feels much more secure on the ear. The nub sensor also still stays very snug against my jaw. The earloop is quite a bit more difficult to get on so I just took it off and the Jawbone stays in the ear perfectly. If I leave the earloop on though the fit is perfect one I get the headset on. As with all headsets without earloops I wouldn't run with it in my ear, but walking around is just fine.
-
The Trick doesn't work. Although the Jabra eargels do fit on the Jawbone, the eargels push the voice activation sensor away from the cheek, which then eliminates the noise reduction feature. Unless you are buying the Jawbone only because it is pretty, and you don't care about the noise reduction, you do not want to waste your time and money buying the Jabra eargels.
-
Your suggestion does not work. The JABRA EarGels do not fit the way you are describing it! You must work for JABRA and want sales of these EarGels...
Or please expalin better as to how you made this work????
