"Great, but with needed slight mod see below."

    by gilso1 on July 18, 2008

Pros: Design is phenomenal, light, great audio in and out

Cons: Wind, but its solved (read further down).

Summary: This replaced my Jawbone, and Jawbone2. Plantroics 925 surpasses these by aeons.

    First Impression:
Great design, Great Fit, Great little charger, Extremely easy pairing, Great incoming sound, and very good outgoing. Audio IQ is pretty smart but not a genius. Worked good and was audible with my car windows down (all four) and an 18 wheeler passing by. I was impressed.

Then I took a walk....light breeze made the Audio IQ into a babbling fool. It cannot handle wind of anysort going into the mic. So I was about to return it, but held on til I tried the etyBLU.

Bought the etyBLU looked great, looking forward to using the boom with the windscreen, but the fit was torturous. Went too far into your head, and never, never, never stayed put. It sounded good out going. But answering or making a call pressing the button felt like I was going to do brain surgery through my ear! ONE GOOD thing came out of it. I put the wind screen onto my Plantronics 925.

Now my Plantronics 925 is outfitted with the windscreen I immediately bought from the Etymotics site, slightly shaped the foam to be tailored to the 925 boom. Viola! I tested it 3" from my fan on high and I was PERFECTLY AUDIBLE!

So here's the perfect combo in my opinion.
Plantronics 925 with the etyBLU small windscreen. Now I'd give it a 10/10 Audio IQ got it's genius.

I also have gone through the Jawbone 1 & 2 (2 didn't work in WM6.1) and have purchased this 925. I really like everything about it and have ordered the Ety windscreen as well. Great tip.

Thank you, I have tried 10 different sets including Jawbone 1 & 2. I purchased the 925 and the suggested windguard from etyblu. I am impressed. Walking into the wind on a high traffic street my CEO could hear me clearly. Not once did I need to repeat myself. This seems like a keeper. Anyoen want to buy a jawbone or two?

I'm pretty sure this its what he's talking about. On the bottom right, ER89-30.

Can you send a picture of the mod you did to the boom? How much did the part costs? Would any similar foam work when applied similarly?

Great review for sure. I had been set on going with the Jawbone 2 until I read a number of the review for that headset. Your review with the windscreen mod is what sold me on this unit. The windscreen can be purchased directly from Etymotic's website - just click on the etyBLU and it will be listed in the accessories. I hope I like it as much as I think I will!

Great review. Thank you. But do you know how I can get an etyBLU windscreen without buying the etyBLU headset just to get the windscreen?

I'm trying to decide between the Plantronics 925 and Jawbone II. I really like the looks of the Plantronics, but had heard of issues with wind. I like your idea. Where did you find the EtyBLU wind screen? Thanks.
