"Nice but not moisture/sweat resistant" on by DonaldRS

Pros: The device is comfortable; takes a little work to get the ear pieces to fit in the ear canal but not a big deal.

Cons: The device is not moisture/sweat resistant. I bought it primarily to use in the gym and on the first visit it started acting up; on the second visit it stopped working.

Summary: Think it's a nice device to use while lounging on the couch or working on a pc. Not a good idea to use in the gym.

"Don't do it" on by stevieb_xq28

Pros: good sound and comfy fit

Cons: short life span of the product (2-3 weeks with 2 different sets), difficult buttons to control.

Summary: I purchased these 3 months ago and have only used them in the gym 3 times. The headset is difficult to control while wearing (ie - multiple buttons that have multiple functionalities), the iPhone does not support the file system used by the Backbeat headphones for music control, so you must advance tracks manually on the phone. I never used the headphones to switch to a phone call. These issues were fine with me, as I only wanted wireless headphones to use while I worked out. The problem now is that the headphones will not consistently turn on or off and I can not pair them. Several of the features you should be able to perform with the headphones (ie Bass boost on/off) do not respond. I'm assuming I have a defective pair, but googling the net has suggested otherwise. I would not purchase these again and would instead spend my money elsewhere. Altec Lansing's customer service has a horrible reputation and so far, I've had no luck at getting a response from them.

Follow-up. Amazon's customer service was great at replacing these headphones. But once again, after 2 weeks of use the headphones stopped working. They are fully charged and will light up on the charger, but they will not turn on. I emailed Altec Lansing and was told to try a reset - which I did to no avail. This second pair was used for 2 weeks, always indoors, for never more than an hour at a time, and I don't sweat. I loved them when they worked, but I don't recommend them.

"Great sound. Nearly perfect with only small flaws." on by mjrei1

    Pros: - Crystal clear sound
    - Good battery life
    - Great call quality
    - Superb control feature set

Cons: - Difficult to get "perfect fit"
    - A little large to be considered discreet

Summary: I feel like a stereo bluetooth junkie (or just bluetooth junkie for that matter) as I've bought dozens of headsets and still own ten or so that sit around as I try the next big thing. That said, the Backbeat 906 is mostly a great headset. Nearly perfect, but lacking in some arguably small areas.

Prior to the Backbeat 906 I've been using the Jaybird BL200 which is another very good but not perfect in-ear design stereo bluetooth headset. I've also had several other stereo bluetooth headsets but looking like I;m wearing earmuffs in the summer is not my idea of good design.

Both the Jaybird and Backbeat use over the ear earbud designs with a connecting behind the neck wire. The Jaybird is far and away the most discreet bluetooth I've ever used or seen. It literally looks like a standard earbud. That is the only aspect of the Jaybird that I like better than the Backbeat.

The Backbeat ultimately has a lot going for it. Here are some of its strong points:
First: 7 hrs battery life playing music or talk. So far 7 hrs seems about right. To me this is huge. What's the point of going wireless if you're limited to 3-5 hrs.
Second: Sound quality is great. The open ear design still lets in some ambient noise which has advantages in traffic or conversations. But the open design still manages to pack a loud punch soundwise. These are some of the loudest headphones I've had, bluetooth or not. Also the sound quality is crystal clear on the high ends. The bass is better than average for an open design and with the bass boost activated the combination of just enough bass with crystal clear highs is actually quite impressive. (I'd give the sound quality a 4.5 out of 5. 5 would be a little bigger bass. Bass is not missing, just not as strong as the high end.)
Third: Control features are second to none. This headset feels like you've just turned your head into a remote control. There are about 10 (maybe more) controls easily executed while wearing the headset between 3 buttons. (There is a 4th button on/off which tells you battery level but you can't use while wearing the device.)
Fourth: The call quality and call features are great. It performs up there with some of my favorite bluetooth earpieces. Callers sound great (both ears) and indoors or out it seems as though everything I say is being heard on the other end of the call.

So what's not to like? Only a few small gripes in my book. The very thick behind the neck wire sometimes gets in the way of my collar which tends to knock the earbuds out of place. Then an even smaller gripe: While they are comparatively on the small side, the earbuds stick out of my ear just a little more than I'd like. Not bad just not as discreet as I'd like.

So far this is my favorite stereo headset. I can live with my small design quibbles because the sound quality and overall performance is so good. I do find them comfortable and for the most part secure. Again, the fit is good, just not perfect. For now I've retired all other headsets for the Backbeat. A solid 4 star performer.

"Awesome set-found solution for sudden dead state of set" on by yusufalways

    Pros: Unexpected Sound clarity.
    Good Battery Life.
    Very comfortable after few days.
    Very nice 3.5 jack adaptor.

Cons: Bass effect is not good at high volume.
Little uncomfortable when wearing with colored shirts.
Range and call quality is not true as mentioned in spec.

Summary: I feel its a impressive headset !!! As i read in early reviews my headset also failed to work after one hour use.
Thought of returning back to seller for replacement/service. But i myself tried resetting not as mentioned in user guide.
After my headset died, nothing worked, even when charging or not charging. I tried reset as mentioned also not helped.

Finally i tried holding the power button for 25 sec. with and without charger, it started working.
First time i felt it wont be the method if headset died.
After some two weeks again it went to the same state, nothing was working, i tried the same way. Again it started working in the same moment. Now i feel like it would be the method.
So far used more than a month. Love listening music in it. Very very comfortable except wearing with colored shirt.
Range is not exactly 33 feet, might be at open place. But call clarity is really good with 10 meter range. I never faced bluetooth disconnections any time. So for me its a wonderful device. Loving a lot. Also i recommend this. I never faced single problem so far. And not contacted customer care also, so i am not sure about that. Once i mailed customer service about a query i got quick response. The query was about i cannot simultaneously use bluetooth adaptor and N73 mobile. Answer is both are A2DP profiles. But the headset will support one A2DP profile at time. So one normal bluetooth mobile and music player is possible. I tried 2 mobiles also but it is not working. Overall I am very happy to have this.

"Not worth the money or hassle" on by reefer

Pros: light weight in every way

Cons: poor reception; within a week all I could get is a steady red light and haven't used them more than 5x. Terribly disappointed.

Summary: I really had high hopes but poor workmanship and support from Altec dashed my hopes. Run away from these cheesy unreliable headphones as fast as you can.

Reception while hold iPhone in my hand would cut out if I turned my head. Serious quality issues, as the headset stopped working after 5x use. Steady red light while plugged in, the on off does not work. Not only is the head phone unresponsive but there is No response from Altec support after 2 weeks after them promising a reply within 72 hours.. I cannot recommend this product or company at all.

    Look elsewhere.
