Pros + Great sound quality, as loud as a wired set of AE2 headphones, wireless bluetooth freedom, very comfortable
+ Easy to connect, connect multiple devices
+ Ease of use, multipoint technology
Cons - Price, bluetooth dongle is a tad large, no noise canceling feature
Summary I often wear headphones at work so that I can listen to music when I am doing mundane tasks or to block out noises around me. I have a great pair of over the hear headphones however, I find that the wire running between the headphones and my computer or player often gets snagged when I am turning from monitor to monitor or restricts my movements around my desk. I also wanted to be able to wear headphones when I am working in the kitchen where I need a lot of mobility and a pair of wired headphones simply wouldnt work. I have found the Bose AE2w to be perfect for my needs.Edit:
What's in the box?
Along with the headphones, the box contains a cloth bag for storing the headphones, a USB cable for charging the headphones and a spare cable so that you can connect the headphones via the wire to your device should the batteries run out or you cant use Bluetooth (for example if you are on an airplane). I really like that Bose included the cable so that you can still use the headphones until you are able to charge them.
The headphones are light and I hardly even feel them on my head. One thing that I think that Bose excels at is producing headphones that are comfortable to wear. Other headphones that I own such as the Audio-Technica ATH-M50S put too much pressure on my ears or so are uncomfortable after a few hours of use, but not the AE2w. The material around your ears is soft and complaint. The band over your head is padded and not annoying. Overall, the AE2w are one of the most comfortable set of headphones I own.
The band of the Bose AE2w is trapezoidal in shape rather than in the form of a U so that sits off the sides of your head. While this is certainly comfortable, it does make the headphones look large. The headphones are black and look sharp. The only odd thing about these headphones is the rectangular shape that protrudes off of one of the earpieces. This protrusion houses the controls for the headphones. It does look a bit odd, but when the headphones are comfortable to wear, sound great and offer the convenience of wireless, I am not going to worry about how they look.
Connecting to your device
I have used the headphones with my computer, iPod and Android phone. Connecting the device to your phone, player or computer is very easy. Just turn on Bluetooth on your device and then press two buttons on the headphones. Have your phone, player or computer search for a new device and once the Bose AE2w is found, tell your device to connect. A great feature is that you can connect to two devices simultaneously which allows you to listen to music or a video on one device while still being about to use your phone, for example to field calls if your phone rings.
I have found that if I am in the same room with my device, I have no problems at all with being dropped. With the Bose AE2w I need to walk a room or two away or up stairs to lose my connection.
There are buttons on one of the headphones to increase or decrease the volume. The headphones include an integrated microphone so that you can use them to make telephone calls or to Skype. Personally, I find this a great feature.
The battery is supposed to offer 7 hours of active use and hundreds of hours while the headphones are switched off. I use the headphones pretty much every day and I would say that 7 hours of use is about accurate. Charging the battery requires that you plug the included cable into a USB port of your computer or that you use an adapter to plug the cable into a wall outlet. A full charge requires about three hours.
Bluetooth headphones have been notorious for having lower sound quality than wired headphones. However, I have worn the AE2w headphones while listening to a range of music as well as movies and I have found the sound quality to be excellent. In my opinion, the headphones are neutral as opposed to some headphones which muddy the sound to emphasize the low frequencies. Classical music sounds bright while music with more bass has some punch.
I am very pleased with the Bose AE2w Bluetooth headphones. They are very comfortable to wear for hours and the absence of a cord feels freeing since you can move around without worrying about catching the cord on something or moving your device with you. The sound quality is excellent. I highly recommend the AE2w if you are looking for a set of wireless headphones.
