"Surprisingly excellent sound."
5.0 starson by catfan2Pros: Sound quality, noise canceling, comfort.
Cons: None that I can think of.
Summary: I used to read a lot of headphone forums. Based on advice I got there, I own both a very good pair of closed studio headphones (Sennheiser HD380 Pro) and a very good pair of audiophile open headphones (Audio Technica ATH-AD900.)
Each of these is quite enjoyable in its own right, and I never expected to need or want anything else for home listening.
Later, I needed a pair of noise canceling headphones for a long plane flight. Despite the many negative reviews in those same forums, I chose the Bose QC 15s because of their comfort and because I was very impressed by the in-store demo of their noise reduction abilities.
I was quite pleased with them on the flight. Afterwards, I put them away to save for the next time I traveled.
Imagine my surprise, therefore, when (on a lark) I decided to try them with my excellent Marantz home CD player. They sound fantastic! In fact, I would characterize them as having the best sonic qualities of both of my others with none of the drawbacks.
In addition, the noise reduction really enhances the listening experience (you would be amazed at how much ambient noise there is in an average home that we normally don't notice), as does the comfort.
Now, I find myself listening to the Bose far more often than to either of my "audiophile" headphones.
I strongly recommend giving these a try. Don't let the forums scare you away, as they are actually excellent in every respect! (In fact, I stopped visiting headphone forums after this experience, as I no longer trust what I read there.)
