Pros: Noise reduction works well & good acoustics
Cons: Cost & rechargeable batteries
Summary: I have owned a pair of Panasonic NC headphones for a few years and taken them on quite a few airplane 9-10 hour trips. Noise reduction was fair, but the sonics were so-so. But on airplane flights the noise cancelling is nice, you can understand the movies and listen to your MP3 player at reasonable levels and avoid the fatigue that the constant engine drone brings.
I tried the Bose QC3 at the store, they sounded good, the noise reduction good, and the size was barely acceptable.
The big negatives was the cost and the battery system. The cost is self explanatory, so here's my comments on the battery. I'm sure they chose the Lithium ion cells for size and power, but the charger isn't dual voltage IIRC and I already have a laptop and cell phone and iPod to recharge in those foreign hotel rooms with 220V and one or two outlets. I don't need another thing to charge. Also when I travel, it's another thing to have to recharge before I go. They should have used one or 2 AAA cells, the others have them and they last 40-80 hours. Spares would take as much room or less than the charger. Oh yeah, if the battery goes flat the music stops, not like other NC phones which just lose the NC function.
I ended up ordering the Sennheiser PXC250 NC phones for much less than half the price. ($80) I'll have to splurge on AAA batteries.
