"Great Value - Exceptional Sound Quality::Dollar Ratio"4.5 starson by angeloloki
Pros: Awesome audio...accurate highs, clean mids and ample low end. Relatively comfortable with my eyeglasses, easily adjustable and durable construction. Excellent value proposition.
Cons: Tight and accurate low end may not provide enough bass for some listeners. WWII radio operator look may not be a good fit for fashion conscious head-fiers. Requires adapter for iPod connectivity.
Summary: Grado apparently shares my philosophy on high quality headphones, which actually stems from two basic concepts: 1. "ECONOMY, n. Purchasing the barrel of whiskey that you do not need for the price of the cow that you cannot afford." (Devil's Dictionary). and 2. "De gustibus non est disputandum." (In matters of taste there is no dispute).
The Grado company clearly knows that many of us have limited dollars to spend on our headphones, and the Prestige line really delivers an amazing bang-for-your-buck.
I love all kinds of music (blues, classical, country, electronic, folk, jazz, reggae, rock...). More to the point, I love listening to my music collections with the SR-125s because they deliver neutral, detailed sound and wide dynamic range.
My iPod Classic 160Gb drives them well enough, but coupling it with my PA2v2 is an even sweeter treat. They also work very well with my laptop's anemic soundcard, and shine with my desktop's premium soundcard. They fit comfortably while my eyesglasses, but it may just be that I was lucky with ear size and head shape. While they leak too much sound for me to be comfortable using them while traveling (I recommend you consider a set of Shure's IEMs for those circumstances), I use them at work and home without feeling fatigued after relatively long listening sessions.
Insofar as marketing executives are generating a deafening amount of noise to win our dollars for headphone upgrades, and technocratic audiophiles generally do not understand the word "budget", I am grateful to cnet for the opportunity to share my experience and, more importantly, to Grado for offering such a wonderful solution for those of us with limited money to spend on headphones.
