The good: The Klipsch Custom 2 in-ear headphones offer full and detailed sound, rugged construction, tangle-resistant cables, multiple ear tips, and effective noise isolation.

The bad: The Klipsch Custom 2 headphones are relatively large, lack foam ear tips, and touch more of your ear than traditional consumer earphones.

The bottom line: If you're looking for a stylish pair of in-ear headphones that can stand up to daily abuse and provide rich sound, the Klipsch Custom 2 are hard to beat.

Klipsch is a relatively new player in the headphone game, but its reputation as a high-end speaker manufacturer dates back to the 1940s. Building on the success of the company's knockout Image X10 earphones, the Klipsch Custom line delivers impressive sound quality in a larger, more durable design.

Klipsch is a relatively new player in the headphone game, but its reputation as a high-end speaker manufacturer dates back to the 1940s. Building on the success of the company's knockout Image X10 earphones, the Klipsch Custom line delivers impressive sound quality in a larger, more durable design.

Design
The Klipsch Custom 2 ($199) headphones have a streamlined, space-age look that features a round 0.7-inch sound chamber packed with dual balanced-armature drivers. Unlike conventional earbuds, the Klipsch Custom's cables shoot out from the top of the earpiece and wrap around the back of the ear along a coated 2-inch length of moldable memory wire. The Klipsch Custom 2's cables measure 4 feet long and are covered in a braided, tangle-resistant cloth.

One of the more unique design features across the entire line of Klipsch earphones are the slightly oval shape of their interchangeable ear tips. Klipsch claims the oblong shape is a better match to the ear canal's natural shape. We failed to notice any appreciable difference between the slightly oval fit of the Klipsch and the uniformly round ear tips included with most earphones, but earphone fit is always a highly subjective experience. The Klipsch Custom 2 come packaged with five pairs of different size silicone tips (three single-flange pairs and two dual-flanged). No foam tips are offered; however, the variety and design of included gel ear tips should satisfy even the smallest or largest ears.

The Klipsch Custom 2s don't have the light and ultraportable design of the Image earphones or a pair of Etymotic HF5s, but their design offers many practical advantages. We found the Klipsch Custom 2s' behind-the-ear memory wire made them easier to quickly slap on than the loose-wire design of our trusty Shure SE310. The moldable wire also allows you to dangle the Klipsch Custom 2 loosely over your ears for moments when you need to hear what's going on around you (i.e. bicycling, walking through sketchy neighborhoods, feigning attention to a conversation).

A large clamshell-style carrying case is included with the Klipsch Custom 2 headphones, along with an airplane adapter, cleaning tool, and five pairs of ear tips.

"Sound Great, Died in about a year :(" By maxnight1189

Pros: Sound AWESOME: nice, balanced bass & quality mids/highs too, relatively comfortable

Cons: DIED IN A YEAR (sound like theyre underwater, its some sort of filtering effect cuz the bass is still good), If you lose the the tips that fit you you're f*ed

Summary: So I have LOVED my Custom-2s for about a year now. The sound quality is by far the best Ive had (although, the only comparisons I have are the Bose TriPorts and cheapo $20 kinds). I listen to them almost constantly: between classes, on public transport, I even overcame my ... Expand full review

"Good fit, good bass, cord a little noisy." By gsuen

Pros: I got these to replace some er-6i's that I wore out. So far, these don't isolate as well, but the sound clarity is terrific.

Cons: One complaint about the cord, the covering is kind of noisy when listening at low volumes. The case doesn't quite fit perfectly as the plugs are set off at almost right angle. The zipper on the case doesn't always zip and I have to self repair it.

Summary: For the price, I think these are outstanding values but I haven't worked out with them yet to determine if the cord noise will be distracting.
