One of the better cell phone developments in the past year has been the proliferation of stereo Bluetooth. While previously it seemed that handset manufacturers were consciously avoiding the feature, a simultaneous push for music phones has, thankfully, made stereo Bluetooth a reality. And as the number of supported phones increases, manufacturers have started to introduce stereo Bluetooth headphones as well. One of Moto's latest entries in the space is the Motorola S9 Bluetooth Active Headphones. Made with the sports enthusiast in mind, these headphones feature a sleek, space-age design that wraps behind your head. For both calls and music, the sound quality was decent--and the fit was relatively comfortable. Priced in the $100 range, they're not exactly cheap, but they won't break the bank either.
Motorola emphasizes the word "active" when mentioning the S9, and by looking at the S9's design, it's clear why. Sleek and aerodynamic, the S9 weighs less then an ounce, which makes it one of the lightest stereo headphones we've seen. It also employs a simple, behind-the-head design that isn't clunky and doesn't look too conspicuous when worn. The rearmost portion of the headset, which holds the power button and charger jack, is the largest part of the S9 at almost an inch wide, but the ends connecting the earbuds taper to a slim diameter of .25 inch. We tested the red-and-blue version, but it also comes in a more subtle gray-and-black model as well. The S9 is water- and sweat-resistant, so you won't have to worry about wearing it during a hard workout.
Thanks to the practical design, we had no trouble slipping the headset on and off. Though the area with the power control and the charger jack is made of hard plastic, the ends are made of a rubberized material that bends easily. The ear hooks slipped easily on and off for us, but users with larger noggins may want to try the S9 before buying. On the whole, the fit is comfortable and the light weight made it barely noticeable, even for longer-wearing periods. The fit was quite secure as well. But the 0.5-inch earbuds did have a tendency to pinch if not positioned just-so. Indeed, it took us a few minutes of fiddling with the earbuds until they slipped comfortably into the ear. On the upside, the ear tips are made a flexible rubber and you get a choice of three sizes.
The controls on the headset were easy to understand and to use. As we mentioned previously, the power control is located on the bottom of the rear end of the headset, just next to the mini-USB charger port. It can be hard to locate when you're wearing the headset, but we can't imagine you'd be turning it on and off excessively. The charger jack is protected by a rubber flap, although the fit wasn't very secure. A small indicator LED sits between the power button and the charger port.
Moto smartly separated the phone and music controls on the S9. A Talk button and the volume control sits just near the left earbud. The former is easy to find and has a soft, tactile feel; the volume control is touch-sensitive and barely needs to be pressed. We haven't seen touch controls in very many headsets, but it's a feature we love on the S9. At times, they could be a bit too sensitive, but overall it was a very user-friendly experience. A music Play button sits near the right earbud and is also touch-sensitive.
We tested the Motorola S9 Bluetooth Active Headphones with the Motorola Razr V3xx. The pairing process took only a few seconds and the connection remained strong. Also, we were able to reconnect instantly after turning both devices off for a short period. Overall sound quality was quite good for all kinds of audio. We could hear callers plainly and there was plenty of volume, even in windy or noisy environments. Callers reported few problems on their ends and we had no trouble being understood by voice-automated calling systems. Our only complaint was that voices on our side sounded harsh and almost robotic at times. However, the effect wasn't constant, so we don't consider it a deal-breaker. Other calling features include voice dialing, call reject, and last-number redial.
Sound from the music player was better than the call sound. We loved the stereo experience and we were impressed by the volume range. Keep in mind that the sound wasn't the sharpest we've heard, but it's more than adequate for most uses. Conveniently, the music automatically pauses when you receive a call, and then resumes after you hang up. We also tested the headphones with streaming video clips and enjoyed solid audio quality. The S9 has a promised battery life of six hours on a single charge.

Bluetooth Motorola headphones NO base, poor sound
Pros: They are wireless. That's it.
Cons: They sound terrible

Good Headset, As Long As You Don't Sweat.
Pros: Design stays put and for the most part out of the way, phone functions well with good audio both ways.
Cons: Music is off balance, with no way to adjust. Sweat often got into the earbud area, aggravating poor audio quality and made the headset uncomfortable.

They just broke after 2 years
Pros: used them for working out. Worked out for the most part. Fair reception, and cut out all other sound when doing lard work like mowing the lawn.
Cons: Cuts out, not as confortable as I would like. The conneciton for recharging is hard to see, it just broke. Wont charge because the fit is no longer snug. Shopping for a new bluetooth head set for working out.

Cons: can cover my phone with my hand and get a lost connection. cant carry phone in pants pocket - lost connection.

+++ bass response and hrs. of play time per chg.
Pros: Great sound and batteries still last a long time after 3+ years.
USB charger is convenient and they are very comfortable.
Cons: Seems to loose signal from device in varied circumstances.
Not noise canceling.
Impressive sound quality, durable, hours of play/short charge time USB chargeable.
Wins all the way with me and I love music and quality sound!

Pros: Good initial design, good sound.
Cons: Not if you sweat...

Fits poorly, uncomfortable, sounds like a tin can
Pros: Pairs easily with my iPhone
Cons: The manual is filled with misspellings, and the information about the LED indications is just incorrect. The headphone is uncomfortable, and sounds terrible.

Short lived, and ill fitting!
Pros: None, since it never fit right and stopped working shortly after receiving it!
Cons: The big problem is it did not fit (migh less comfortability) to the point the ear buds barely fit my ears & caused pain! Right after getting it, it stopped working for some unknown reason, I never dropped it etc to cause it to stop working!

Headsets work great with a iPod Touch 2nd Generation
Pros: Headsets have a good clean sound and easily pair up with the iPod Touch
Cons: The sound is somewhat lacking in bass but does have clean treble delivery. The piece behind your head is in the way when sitting in a high back chair or lying down.
1. The software in the 2nd generation iPod Touch must be upgraded to at least 3.1.3 to enable Bluetooth.
2. The left and right channels are reversed in the S9 earpieces compared with the wired iPod earbuds.
3. The microphone in the S9 is not recognized by the Skype application in the iPod Touch so the headset cannot be used to make or receive calls.
4. The iPod equalizer or volume controls have no effect on the audio in the S9 headset. The S9 volume control buttons do work however.
5. The pause/play button on the S9 controls the iPod just fine but the skip forward/reverse buttons have no effect.

Great unit, crappy ear bud design .
Pros: I have had mine for a year now and it is a great unit.
Cons: The only problem is loosing the rubber ear buds. Now I see Moto will sell me a replacement set for $10. Given the crappy adhesion in their design they should give you three sets.

Cons: bad internal design

Great sound, but not for active wear, lousy cust svc
Pros: Great fit, light weight, and good sound. The controls worked well (for the 1st 6 months)
Cons: These are not for active outdoor wear - sweat will cause the buttons to stop working. Battery life is limited after 6 months to about 1 hour. Very difficult to get through to customer service.
Since they had a 1 year warranty at the time, I called Customer Service. Their phone tree was a hellish way to contact them as there were no options for this product and it put you in a perpetual loop. I finally selected an option for a product and was directed to somewhere in India - but at least I had a real person to initiate the process. Within a week, I had a new headset and was happy.
The new headset worked well for another 6 months. Now, I am looking for any competing product that is lightweight, comfortable, with good sound, that handles active sports such as running.
These would be great for just listening - but you don't need the sports design for that.

Stopped charging after 14 months and became useless.
Pros: Easy to use; great for walking and jogging.
Cons: A little bulky over the ears for women. Headset stopped charging just after 1 year warranty expired; Motorola technician said to throw it away and buy a new one! Hmmm.

Great idea, horrible implementation.
Pros: Nice size, nicely placed controls, good sound quality.
Cons: No resistance to moisture, breaks OFTEN. VERY often. Like every few hours.

great value for money..
Pros: pairing with my mac and my nokia 2700 classic was such a breeze. sound was a notch better than expected but cannot be compared with my wired ultimate ears. discreetly functional without having to appear like someone from mission control.
Cons: i do not know if its the nokia or the s9 that causes so many signal drops when i jog outdoors. oddly, the music never drops when im listening to it inside my car. the volume isnt as loud as i want it to be. the battery life can be improved upon.

Pros: Sleek design, great (if now standard) controls, comfortable for even a big head like mine, lightweight
Cons: AWFUL sound quality!

Pros: it works well with all my other bluetooth enabled device except for my new lg env touch.
Cons: cannot use while lying down also customer support is not very helpful.

Alright sound quality, poor bluetoth connection
Pros: I like the fit of the headphones and the controls were awesome. Very Convenient to wear. Tested them running, worked very well if phone wasn't in your pocket.
Cons: you can't keep your audio player in your pocket, it has to be somewhere on you above the waist, or the sound will cut in and out and the sounds quality was tinny at times.

Perfect Couch Potato Device!
Pros: Great sound quality if you are looking to chill on the couch or zone on the train during a commute.
Cons: Sweat! Don't use it for your workouts! I have gone thourgh 1 a month for the past 10 months! The retiler finally stopped exchanging them. Perhaps one day soemone will realize that there is a market for these in the fitness areana!

Don't waste your money breaks before you get used to it
Pros: Controls of the ipod are great when they work.
Cons: Any amount of sweat and the controls either stop working or get stuck. Volume kept beeping as it was stuck in the UP position. Unit turned off all byself at least 3 times everytime I used it. I would have to turn it back on while I was running.

Not working well with my G1 phone
Pros: Nice fit and no wires.
Cons: Music is clipping in and out. Can't put phone in pocket. Almost unusable. Need to contact T-Mobile for input.

Great stereo sound, phone audio in one ear only.
Pros: I have own this head seat for several years and love the stereo music sound quality.
Cons: The phone audio only plays through the left ear. Also, The mic is fragile and will quit working if you subject it to wind. If you sweat a lot while working out, the sweat may cause the headset to stop working.

The 1st day review.
Pros: They feel good and not killing my ears by hanging on the backside of them, also I dont mind the controls they work for me.
Cons: The back hangs too low on my neck and when you look up they seem to pull out of the ear, also I was expecting more volume from them,I like boomers I guess,I will say this they are worth getting.

Almost Perfect
Pros: 1. Controls are separated & easy to use.
2. Connected easily with a Blackberry Curve 8830.
3. Lightweight, small & portable.
4. Sound quality.
5. Wireless audio for both MP3 & phone calls.
6. Uses same charger as MotoROKR or Blackberry C
Cons: 1. Does not work with radio applications on the Blackberry, like Pandora.
2. Little if any adjustment to ear pieces.

Great....But!
Pros: The sound quality is perfect for what I need, the ability to answer a call and have the music pause is a great point, and the >>(fwd) or the << (rev) for the music player is great for when I want to play it again, but....
Cons: The buttons are so sensitive that they have a tendency to turn the volume way up or way down with just a simple touch or on their own, and the music buttons fwd & rev have problems. It is like someone is remotely changing my music and volume. Scary!
.............But it is great for driving and the music quality sounds soooo good that I will probably get a new one, save the paperwork this time and the receipt, and try to have it fixed on warranty if the next one does the same thing.

Tight fit makes otherwise great headset a dealbreaker
Pros: -Great sound for basic music. Deep bass and relatively clear sound.
-Stereo Bluetooth
-Fits snugly (more on this in cons).
-Nice, sporty look.
Cons: -The sound isn't great for discriminating listeners. Due to lack of equalizer, this device isn't meant to be a used primarily for just listening to music.
-The thing is waaaaay too tight. It's not adjustable. I had a headache after using it!

Short life-span and too expensive
Pros: All the features that don't last very long are cool - see cons.
Cons: So this phone only lasted about a month for me. All the controls and bluetooth and phone features and volume control and playlist control are great, but when the phone stops working after just a couple long workouts - LAME!

What a piece of garbage
Pros: It would be great - if it worked.
Cons: These are a damned disgrace. $100 headphones, and after four days of use they quit - who could possibly make headphones for physical activity that get shut down by sweat?
out of 186 user reviews
Poor Connection Quality
Pros: The concept is good, comfort is reasonable. It is great to have headphones without the wires.
Cons: Connection quality is very poor. The connection keeps "skipping" or loosing the signal for a second or two at a time. The only way to keep the signal up is to hold your bluetooth deivce up to the headphones.
Bottom line, is it was a good idea, but poorly implemented. I had expected more from Motorola.
For reference, I was using this with a Motorola phone equipped with bluetooth and MP3 music functions.

Wow Great buy.
Pros: Sound, Feel, Loud
Cons: Outside. Sometimes, if placed to low it doesn't sound good.
I am using this headset with the BlackJack 2 and I love it. However, be forewarned if you plan on doing a lot of running with these headsets, I personally have found that they bounce up and down distorting wearing them both ways.
They do however, give great sound quality for the Classic rock that I listen to.

They will not hold up.I have had 4 in one year
Pros: the sound works well indoors for a while and when works sounds pretty good
Cons: the key is when if works. I am on my 4th one. I bought it for the gym but sweat will shotly render the controls useless.
out of 186 user reviews
Disappointing. Useful, but not functional.
Pros: A2DP sound quality is great, Pairing works fine with both my Samsung U550 and USB dongle for my computer.
Cons: Will not fit me for any length of time. Quickly becomes too loose and uncomfortable.
Mono sound when using mic, surrounding noises drown out my voice quite easily.
While it will fit me comfortably for a short period of time, it quickly becomes too loose (i do have a narrower head) and uncomfortable.
The microphone is completely unusable in anything but a perfectly quiet environment, and even then there is an annoying background hiss.
I found a place to buy it for 42 dollars and I still feel like i didn't get my money's worth. I'm back to using a $20 corded headset, and holding my phone to my ear.
I only use the S9 when i'm listening to music and cleaning my room or doing something away from my computer.

Great Product
Pros: Battery Life is good.
Nick Packaging
Charges with mini-usb
Works well with Nokia 6085
Cheap price
Cons: Occasionally it drops sound when there is obstacle between it and bluetooth transmitter.

Perfect for the right application
Pros: Sound is really good and the controls simple
Cons: I was disappointed that I couldn't listen to my PC stereo feed without an adapter, but that was clearly stated in the manual.
I really would like to use the S9 with my laptop but will need to get the adapter. My Dell laptop actually does recognize and link with the S9 but not for stereo sound, so I guess I would only use it if the Dell became a cell phone.

Pros: Light weight, good fit.
Cons: Very poor quality product. Motorola should be ashamed of themselves.

Waterproof? Bull****!
Pros: The sound quality is very good. Hands free is great while working out.
Cons: Supposedly water proof, I have had to mail these in 3 times to Motorola because they completely stopped working. This is simply from biking or running. Now I can't get them replaced even if I wanted to.
"Work it Out - Combining ease-of-use with the latest Bluetooth wireless technology¹, the water and sweat resistant Motorola S9 is the ideal wireless headwear for the active music lover. Now, be connected and listen to favorite songs during those tough workouts, without getting tangled in wires!² "
Well, not really the case. Now because I had to fiddle around with the nearly three months without the headphones (the three times I sent them back) I can't get them replaced again. Not that I would really want to. Just watch out if you work out with these. Bogus
They sound good and wireless is nice.

Has abysmal durability for a sports product. Mine broke
Pros: Good stereo sound and blue tooth wireless connectivity. But these things are to be expected and that's why I bought it.
Cons: The fit is limited in that it will not fit a broad range of head sizes. Additionally, the volume button broke after 3-4 uses. I returned the product and bought another. It suffered the same defect. The balance is poor for runners.
out of 186 user reviews
Don't buy this, wait for next generation stuff.
Pros: The sound quality was like of normal headphone, but there wasn't anything good about it.
Cons: Wasted of my money, since the sound consistence was horrible. There would be constantly lag ever few sec in music, giving me headaches, and I was pairing it with my rizr. The material isn't very sturdy either, since it broke when i drop it once.

True, Decent Review
Pros: confortable( but can't allow head to rest so its not for airplane voyager...)
nice look
wireless :)
Cons: i dont like the buttons
I'm actually working out with them with phone(instinct) in a pouch at my waist and theres not much disconnection maybe 1 or 2 times per hour... Neither had a problem with sweat like ive read earlier here. But if you sweat a lot probably not recommended

excellent headset , in-ear design ...
Pros: awesome sound, cheap (OEM from ebay ~$20), hold in place very well, battery last long enough. auto shut-off after 1 hr
Cons: in-ear design caused my right ear infection :(
too bad i just found out i have sensitive ear as my right ear is now infected... :( if ur ear is sensitive, the in-ear design would be dangerous for you. other wise, its sounds awesome and the person on the other end hear very clearly.

Must be close to your phone to work
Pros: Good sound when working and reasonably comfortable after you get it on
Cons: I use it with my Blackberry Curve and as long as the two are close enough, the connection and sound are fine, but with any movement - like running, biking or even walking fast, the headset looses the connection and there are large gaps in the sound.

Great when new after 30 days in gym cease to work right
Pros: Good sound and easy to use when new. Keep going back to VZW store and exchange approx every 30-45 days
Cons: After about 30 days of use in the gym the buttons either cease to work or the the buttons activate without being pressed. Also the speaker and handsfree phone mic will fail with sweat sometimes as well.

Great Headset for the ACTIVE user.
Pros: Lightwieght, stylish, comfortable for long use(not by everyone, but I find them great), stable fit(don't bounce around alot), awesome controls, sound quality more than passable
Cons: Battery life could be improved, connection break issues near other 2.4Ghz devices(there are alot of these: cordless phones, wireless networks, other BT devices)

Okay product.
Pros: The fact you can listen to songs and receive calls. Its a well designed form factor.
Cons: 5 people said I sounded like I was in a tunnel. They also said I cut out some. This is due to the fact the S9 does not have noise cancelling properties. Make sure you get them to fit right or your ears could get sore. No base when using for music.

Great Headphones! Call Answer/Music Stop/Restart A Plus
Pros: I got theS-9's for a birthday present last July. I wear them mainly when cutting the grass and walking the dogs. The sound volume is great. The bluetooth is easy to pair with the Q, Treo and Instinct. Music comes in clear and telephone calls are ok.
Cons: Background noise from callers, but I didn't notice anything. Tight around ears/head. Can be a little unfortable for larger heads. A little over a year and the forward/rewind buttons stopped working for no reason (luckily I got a 3rd party warranty)

Had to be replaced twice in the first 8 months.
Pros: Good sound when used to talk on the phone but the sound only works on one side.
Cons: These won't last you more than six months. Sweat will ruin the switches and the antenna sucks. Mine only work if I hold my phone in my hand. If I put it in my pocket, it disconnects. If you gotta have them, you can get 'em on eBay for about $45.

Don't use it for running if you plan to SWEAT!
Pros: Good stereo sound, control locations
Cons: - I've had 2, & both died after ~5-10 runs. Sweat causes ctrl buttons to fail & then the speakers fail too.
- Batt pack is held in the air behind your head, where it bounces uncomfortably while running, or drops down causing poor earpiece fit

Cons: Cannot be worn with eyeglasses, very sensitive to sweat.

Great wireless headphones
Pros: These headphones have the best sound of any that I have had or tried. The microphone sucks, people can't hear you. I don't use it to talk. When I get a call while listening to music, I turn this thing off and just talk with my phone on my ear.
Cons: Controls need to be switched (music on left-phone on the right). Also, picks up too much background noise. I can't carry on a conversation unless I go to a very quiet spot. Mic. is terrible. People can't hear you.

-Good coverage/range (but better indoors)
-Controls easy to use once you memorize them
Cons: -Minor distortion with very bassy music
-Cryptic flashing light (but that is all headsets)
At very loud volumes, "bassy" music can become somewhat distorted
When I bought the unit, I had absolutely no intentions of using it for phone calls - simply because I assumed it wouldn't work well. However, it works perfectly fine in quiet environments! I wouldn't recommend it for driving or walks outside, as the mic boom is far from the mouth. People hear me clearly and they sound fine on my end (however, I've heard much clearer/sharper with regular BT headsets).
The one problem I have with the unit is when I swap it for BT Stereo on my phone with BT Stereo on my MacBook. On certain occasions, it makes me re-pair them each time I want to switch.
Overall.... GREAT product that I'd highly recommend.

Good but not Good enough
Pros: Light weight, easy to use
Cons: The biggest issue is that the volume is not loud, when at the gym or at work the volume level is way too low. no matter how many times you hit the volume button it just dosent get any louder. These headphone fit funnyif you have a have big head.

sweat will kill them, useable for sports??
Pros: when they work they are great. sound quality good, lightweight etc... basically what the review says.
Cons: within 6 months I have had to get 2 replacements sent to me. I usually run about 5 or 6 mies a day and the sweat will first cause the buttons to stop working, then they wont take a charge and wont turn on.

Pros: Great design, fit me well, sound was good
Cons: NOT sweat proof

Worked great initially, buy sweat has killed 3 pairs.
Pros: Great sound from my sony phone
Cons: What more can I say, I have been though 3 pairs in 2 months
Now onto the problems I have experienced.
When I am working out in the sun I tend to sweat. Well within 2 weeks the first set shorted out. None of the buttons on the left side (phone control and volume) would work. I took that pair back to best buy and got another. Within 3 weeks the buttons on the right side (the music control buttons) had shorted, which basically killed the headset, as the player kept starting and stopping. I returned the second set to get a 3rd. That was last week. After only 4 days using them at work, the microphone has shorted out. One doesn't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out what happens. Sweat on the ear, or on the head travels down the headband and into the ear buds shorting them out.
When I returned to best buy with the 3rd set they told me I was on my own. So that was a 150.00 lesson learned.

Motorcycle Riders, A Must Experience!!
Pros: Sound Quality, Functionality, Helmet Compatability
Cons: Signal Distortion and Loss, Volume Limit To Low
Utilization of the controls is very intuitive and takes only a moment to master. Volume and song selection controls are well placed and easy to access even with thin riding gloves. Volume up is the upper button and volume down is the lower button, previous song is the upper button and next selection is the lower button. The center left button activates and deactivates hands free calling on all supported Bluetooth phones, the center right button controls play/pause of music.
Sound Quality is excellent for my music and calls. I was able to hear all of my music even at 75mph, on my 2008 Harley Davidson (yes the pipes are very loud, my neighbors will verify) exhaust rumbling, in an urban heavy traffic setting. I was even able to clearly hear incoming callers with ease. This brings us to my first negative (although every Bluetooth headset I have tried has the same issue) callers could not hear me clear enough to have a conversation at speed on my motorcycle. I have discovered that with a full-face helmet (yes it fits inside, and it was fairly comfortable) callers were able to converse relatively well with few repeated words.
Signal Distortion and Loss is always an issued, don't think your current headset has issues, try setting your phone down and walking 30 feet away. Even in a perfect setting 9/10 times you will lose connection. We must be realistic; working in the confines of technology is partly our responsibility. As I mentioned before simply moving my Ipod from my pocket to a "Griffin Streamline" arm band I eliminated almost all signal loss. I now enjoy more than 98% of my music with less than 2% loss due to environment or outside interference.
Helmet Compatibility is excellent so far. I have tried my S9 with more than 20 different helmets and found no fitment issues thus far. This means your helmet will probably fit comfortably while wearing the S9. The S9 comes with three earbud designs that make comfort and "air gap" issues disappear for myself (riders should understand how important this is). I have tried no helmet and half helmet resulting in very good music quality and ability to hear callers but not be heard. A Partial Face helmet that resulted in a slight improvement in my ability to be heard. Finally Full-face modular helmets that resulted in good two-way conversations and excellent music quality and volume.
Volume has been my personal pet-peeve and disappointment with this product. It just will not produce sound above a "safe level" for your ears. Motorola, they are my ears. If you are hard of hearing to begin with this product will be hard to hear at highway speeds unless inside a full face helmet. The cycle consumer may wish for greater volume as I do (however, we could spring for the handlebar mounted stereo system, $300.00 or more is well beyond the cost of these headphones and we still have to suffer wind sheer).
Another added benefit was just mentioned, wearing these headphones nearly eliminates wind sheer noise without being turned on. I like many riders can get a wind noise related headache after a few hundred miles of hard riding. These headphones grip very well and stayed in place through some rough conditions.

Good Bluetooth, but uncomfortable for long periods of time, and horrible sound quality.
Pros: Easy and reliable Bluetooth connection, good phone features.
Cons: Uncomfortable, and horrible sound quality
Bluetooth - I paired my S9 with my Samsung P2 and LG VX8300, and was able to connect to them both simultaneously and separately without issues. Both connections were strong as I was able to walk down a floor from my room and onto my basement steps before they started to skip. I also connected them to my computers and quality was the same.
Build Quality - The buttons are nicely placed, but I personally don't like to touch buttons, as mine were not as responsive as others have said, especially sense I'm a P2 user. The headphones are uncomfortable. With them pushing into your ears, after long periods of time they can give a you headache. However, the headphone are very light, durable, and flexible.
-Sound
Sound quality for the S9's phone features are decent, and callers didn't find my voice distorted, but that's the end of the positives.
The S9's music quality is just horrible. Bass is non-existent, and highs can become distorted at times. I tested this my Samsung P2, LG VX8300, and both my computers, and found this to be consistent. The $10 wired headphones at Wal-mart are better in this regard. I know the limitations of bluetooth music, but poor music quality on headphones of this price, there's no excuse.

Major disappointment
Pros: The design
Cons: Poor connectivity, fussy.
Issues:
Pairing - never smooth. Maybe it'll pair with my device (BB pearl, which never has any problems with any other BT device), maybe it won't, and if it does, music may or may not come through the earphones.
Playing - Besides being a temperamental pairing partner, the connection constantly drops. It's not just once in awhile, but every 10 seconds. It only happens when streaming music, not when using it for the phone. On some days, it might drop "only" every 5 minutes, but those good days are rare.
I've given up on it. It has also soured my opinion of Motorola to do bluetooth right.

Cons: callers tell me that i don't sound as good as regular phone and i wish the phone sound would come out both ears like jara bt620 does

Constant Interruptions-Can't Use While Moving
Pros: Very good sound quality
Cons: interruptions every time you move--you cannot use these headphones while walking (at any speed, indoors or out) or jogging
Also, the unit does not fold or twist, making it impossible to use while lying down or leaning your head back against a chair back or headrest. Battery life is OK but not great.
It really seems as though CNET's "excellent" reviewers did not use the headset in authentic situations before reviewing it.

Better than expected
Pros: music sound quality, button placement/functionality, style, fit for my head, low profile
Cons: call sound quality, poor outdoor reception
Using the music controls on my phone results in it having a hard time with backing up a song or 2 or 10, mostly because the slight delay between the signals coming out of the headphones seems to mean that the phone thinks you just want to go to the beginning of the current track, not back up several songs. The audio quality is good for music, though- The sound is definitely biased toward bass, which is fine with me, though highs tend to cut off.
The call function is a different story. For whatever reason, mono phone use is much worse than the stereo sound (same speakers, only just in one ear, right?). Listeners on the other end of calls tend to get an inordinate amount of background noise with the S9, as well, though I do walk city streets a lot.
On that note, the S9 seems to like a line-of-site with the phone. The transeiver seems to be positioned in the unit behind your head, and when my phone is on my chest (messenger bag with cell phone pocket in strap), the music cuts out periodically, as much as 3 times per minute with a 2 second gap- not very functional. When I slide the phone up onto my shoulder, though, the skips disappear. My head isn't that thick. Indoors (gym, on the treadmill, at home), this does not occur. In addition, the effect is lessened when I am walking in a less-congested area in town. Possible interference?
Overall, I highly recommend these- they are better than I thought they might be (planned to return them when they sucked, and they didn't). In addition, I recommend going to a Verizon store if you have an account, and buying with your next phone (they gave me 25% off the S9s, plus a lot of other discounts- all you have to do is ask.) All in all, well worth it for my usage, which is daily walking to and from work, at the gym and taking calls during those times.

Pros: light weight, comfortable, great sound
Cons: Units fail frequently from sweat
Motorola - please fix this defect in all of the units - their keys must be made more tolerant to moisture from the user. I have never used them in the rain - it's only from me working out.

Good for gym-goers with decent sound, but with some minor design flaw
Pros: Sounds good. Powerful bass. Control buttons are well-placed.
Cons: Would be better if the earbuds can go into ear
The Moto S9 sounds really good. The bass is more powerful than I expected. However, since the headset isn't adjustable, it took me some time to get the speakers pointing to the right way and the earbuds completely cover the ear. Maybe that's why Moto will have S9-HD in which they say the ear pieces are ported design which can channel sound to the ear canals.
All in all, I like this headset and I can bare with the minor design flaw because I really like go running with this.
But people with large head, I suggest trying the headsets and see if you feel comfortable before you buy.

great concept but poor execution
Pros: Good product idea
Cons: The bluetooth connect is very poor with the T-Mobile Curve
The problem is that the connection to the Curve is very bad. The signal breaks up every 10 to 15 seconds. I currently use traditional headphones with my phone when i workout, so the songs are not the problem.
I called Motorola and they suggested I exchanged the phone and try again. I did and had the same problem. I call back and they tell me there must be something wrong with the phone and I have to call Blackberry. I call Blackberry and we test everything, including reinstalling the operating system but I still had the same problem. I did test another single ear bluetooth device and everything worked.
Not sure what the issue is but it extremely frustrating when you buy a product, call for the support, and all you get is it must be the other device's faultand they cannot help me. Motorola should do a much better job with their support. I understand that they cannot know all of the details on how their products work with all the phones that are out there but from my estimations, the Curve could be one of the most popular phones out there..
Needless to say, I returned the phone after spending 6 plus hours (hold times are ridiculous) on the phone with support and trouble shooting. I hope nobody else has to go through what I went through.

Don't take these to the gym
Pros: Suprisingly decent sound, decent bass
Cons: Odd fit, completely unsuitable for the gym
After about 20 minutes on the treadmill, the sweat started to make the headset slip out of my ears just enough so I couldn't hear the music - I found myself having to keep pushing them in every minute or so. The headset was an even bigger disaster for the rest of my workout - you cannot lay on your back on a bench and keep these in your ears. The headset's behind the head design make this impossible.
Bottom line: These seem to be a well built, very good quality headset that couldn't be more ill-suited for the gym.

best sports headphones on the market right now
Pros: stay on, syncs w/ all my stuff easily, 5 hour usage, control buttons
Cons: could be a bit smaller for women or people with smaller heads
I can walk around and do stuff around my desk without getting the cord caught on anything. Range indoors is about 25 feet.
Like the fact that I can forward songs, adjust volume, and pick up a call with a touch of a button on my headset.
This version definitely has a couple of upgrades that the older model didn’t have, like the buttons are easier to press (more sensitive), it beeps when you press a button so you know the headset acknowledges the fact that you pressed a button, and when you charge it, there are 3 distinctive stages that the LED indicates you are in during the charging process.
In summer, supposedly this headset is coming out with Hi Def version, but with blue tooth, not sure if that would make much of a difference regarding sound quality. Plus I read a couple of reviews on the HI Def version in the international community and the rating was average.

Not the best but decent for the price
Pros: Sleek, beautiful
Cons: Size, shape
Connection was excellent for me both inside and out. My phone detected it fine and everything worked fine. My iPod also detected fine (with the bluetooth attachment).
The controls on the side of the head was also great. Everything I did worked. The little beeping sounds are also nice because it tells you what you did.
However, the overall feel of the headphones was extremely uncomfortable. They were fine if my neck was stiff, but I tend to move my neck around a lot (cracking, tilting head back during work to stretch, rest on side of head to sleep, etc.)
The earpieces itself are also get uncomfortable after a long period of use. Unless you can get them at a perfect angle that fits your ears (believe me, it's possible), you'll start to feel a little pain around your ears. I don't think it's that bad but if you continually feel it, I would suggest seeing the doctor.
Overall, I think these headphones are great. I certainly wouldn't be getting another headphones to replace these ones anytime soon. The only thing I wish motorola did with these headphones was the the ability to change the length of the earphones. The only reason it got a low score from me is it's feel.
If you can brush away comfort and your all into looks, then these earphones are perfect. If you have a small head or a long neck, then prepare for mini-hell everytime you wear these.

Great, not for active people
Pros: Lightweight, controls on earpiece, good sound
Cons: NOT sweat resistant, uncomfortable unless perfectly adjusted
As the CNET review points out, if the headset is not perfectly set, they pinch and can hurt a great deal. However, if they are set perfectly, they are the most comfortable headset you could imagine.
If you are looking for an indoor headset, these are ideal. When cleaning around the house, I can set my phone down, walk away, and still get great reception for a considerable distance. Reception outside, however, is iffy at best.
In summary, I'm basically echoing everything everyone else is saying about this headset. It is a great pair of headphones with great sound, but is not for active people or outside use.

Thanks for this one I love it to an extent, it is one of the best headsets I’ve used
Pros: Out of the box it set up with no problem to my phone
Cons: doesn’t like to move with your head
Performers I give it an 8
Out of the box it set up with no problem to my phone I have two of them and the second one that I don’t use as often, but when I tried to switch the headset to the other one I found that it is not an easy switch over, and due to the time needed I didn’t try my computer. The power on/off is the other thing I’m not too happy with you should not have to press down on the power on for 2-3 sec to make it come on, off maybe.
Comfort I give it a 5
For the most part it is ok walking, some running, but looking up or around, it doesn’t like to move with your head and tends to pull on your ears when looking up. Hats can be a problem too in cold weather.
Usage 7
Limited to one device in a world that tends to use two (phone and computer) to three (business phone). The volume buttons must be balanced with the device. The volume will not go all the way down if your player’s volume is all the way up. Note that the buttons are perfect easy to use and just a gentle touch to work.
My recommendations for the next one would be 1 flexible joint’s for a better fit and movement of the head. 2. A listen button to hear what is going on around you (people / train / planes / general announcements) Note I like my music but I don’t like being antisocial. 3. Ability to setup up to three devices and switch between them as you need them/use them. 4 Minor things gel ear buds, volume control, better “on” time.

Here's a more accurate review
Pros: Cool looking, Low front facing profile, touch controls are really intuitive
Cons: Music cuts out outdoors, Bulky in the back
Before I start I will state how I am using them: I have paired mine with my Motorola Razr V3, and my iPod Touch (which has the Motorola iPod Bluetooth Connector attached to it)
While I agree with some of the article. I disagree with how glowing a review the article seems to give. (Makes me think somebody got a free pair of headphones out of it).
Don't get my wrong, these headphones are cool. They are sleek looking.
Before I praise them, let me bash them for their major flaws:
1) The bulk in the back: since these are a behind-the-head model, you get a nice low profile if somebody is looking at you from the face or side. But lurking right behind your head is the battery, and presumably the electronics that run the thing. To give you an example of how big the back part is: The length of the bulk is roughly 3" around the back of your head, which doesn't really matter. It's behind your head. The height of the bulky bit is almost 1 inch. So it's bandaid shaped. The problem is, it is also 1/2 and inch thick, and sticks out another 1/2 inch from the back of your neck.
So what? What this means is that if you are a traveller - these headphones ARE NOT FOR YOU. You cannot rest your head against a plane, train, bus, or car-with-headrest seat without it being uncomfortable and pushing the headphones off your head.
This is the one major flaw with this design. OK ... so now you may be thinking - I just want them for working out, and walking around the house.
No problem, as long as you don't run into the second (documented by Motorola) flaw with these headphones.
They DO NOT WORK OUTDOORS. If you are walking, these headphones cut out constantly. Motorola knows this, and even documents the fact that if you are outdoors they "may" cut out on you - well they will...constantly. Especially if you live in a city I suspect. I noticed my blackberry when it goes off cuts out the music as well.
Motorola recommends you keep the unit in a top shirt pocket while outdoors. While this does minimize the cut outs, it does not eliminate them.
So. No jogging, biking, etc. with these puppies on your head, or you will be listening to 45% silence 55% music the whole way.
If you are sitting at your desk with the ipod or whatever sitting stable, then you're fine. No cut outs at all. And walking around a room is ok if you don't go too far away from the transmission source.
You must keep these in mind if you want to use these headphones and be 100% happy with them.
Me? I'm about 80% happy, but ranked them a 6 out of 10 for grossly missing their mark.
GREAT idea, sucky implementation.
And having said all that, I still love them. It's nice to just reach up and tap the side of them to get to the next song or adjust the volume. I can even sometimes do it through my gloves in the winter.
Sound quality is good. The phone microphone isn't very good though. People will have a hard time hearing you if there is ANY kind of background noise. It's not terrible though...kind of like being on a junky speaker phone.
If you have an iPod Touch, you will notice that the iPod connector doesn't really go with the actual iPod. It's white, it's a weird shape: 1.5" x 1" but just as thick as the Touch. This means it kind of hangs to one side. There is nothing holding the connector TO the iPod other than the actual interface port. Which means I am worried it may end up getting lose, or worse, I'm worried about snapping it off of the iPod. There is no way you can put this in a jeans pocket with the connector on it without being fearful of it snapping in two.
So Motorola has a good idea...and they are almost comfortable, and they almost work. But are they worth it?
For the cool factor? Yes. Everyone in the office was saying: "Oh my god are those bluetooth/wireless?" And seemed genuinely impressed with how they looked.
For the comfort and functionality... Motorola should be slapped in the face.
In addition to my other post where I give a more accurate review of the design flaws, I just wanted to add this. It's in response to some of the morons that expected these headphones to support "stereo" phone calls.
These are stereo headphones. They work on the A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile).
THE DEVICE YOU PAIR WITH must support this to get stereo music. HOWEVER - Your phone calls will still be mono. um. Duh???
That's not the headphone's problem. That's the phone. It isn't transmitting the phone call using A2DP protocols.
I don't know of ANY phone that does transmit "stereo" phone calls. Besides I don't want to hear somebody inside my head. That's just creapy. :o)
So read the damn specifications before whining about your phone calls being mono.
Read my other review to find out the real flaws with these headphones.

Awesome! Good sound, great features, great design
Pros: Sound Quality, Controls
Cons: Can be uncomfortable if earbuds are not set up correctly, USB charging socket flap doesnt close well
The headphones sound great. They are not the best headphones I have ever used as fas as sound, but they are in the top 5. I have a pair of wired sound isolating headphones that came with a portable XM Satellite player, and they are the best sounding headphones I have ever heard. The Motorola S9 sounds almost as good, but lacks the full frequency abilities of the XM headphones. The XM headphones put you into the music, and you cannot hear much of anything when you have them on, even if they are not on. In contrast, the S9 still allows you to hear much better to what is happening around you at lower volumes.
The cool thing about the S9 is that it pairs with multiple bluetooth devices, and it remembers which device it was paired to last. So if I turn on the headphones and both my laptop (Toshiba X205-9359) and my Treo are on, it will choose whichever one it was used with most recently. One feature that is incredible is that if a phone call comes in while you are listening to music, it will pause your music and allow you to answer your phone call. If you reject the phone call or when you are done with the phone conversation, the music will resume playback. It will do this whether they are being used to listen to the music on the laptop or on the phone itself, so it actually pairs to multiple devices simultaneously.
As a handsfree kit, the sound only comes in through the left ear, possibly because the microphone is in the right ear. I was talking to somebody just last night on my phone handset, and when I switched to the S9, I was told that I actually sounded louder and more clear. This is great because I have had people say I dont sound very clear with other headsets I have used. Also, to put into perspective the sound quality of the microphone, the Treo 650 has a reputation for excellent clarity on the handset.
I love taking my S9 to the gym. All those other people with their trendy iPod Nanos have nothing on me. They have their iPods on their arm or belt, with their wires dangling around just waiting to get snagged. I put my Treo in the cupholder on the treadmill or bike and I just do my running or cycling with my S9 on. It is great. When I go to the machines, I can leave my Treo in my pocket or I can put it on top of the machine while I use it.
The range is pretty good. When I am at work I have my music playing and I leave my phone on the charger while I walk around with my S9 on. It lasts for about 7 hours on a charge and since it is a USB connection, it charges from my laptop of from any charger that a Motorola RAZR or Blackberry charges from.
When the headset is charging, the light is red. When it reaches 20 percent charge, the light turns yellow to let you know you have about an hours worth of a charge to use it. When it is fully charged, the indicator light is green. When it is in use, the indicator light flashes blue.
I got mine at Fry's for $99.00. There is a version that works with the trendy iPod that costs $130.00 The iPod model adds a control unit to the bottom of the iPod.
For both the Treo and my Toshiba, the S9 controls for volume and playback worked flawlessly. The phone controls are on the left, with a soft pushbutton to answer, redial, and end phone calls, and a touch button above and below to control volume for both phone calls and music. On the right side is another set of buttons that work identical to the ones on the left, except the middle one does play and pause while the touch buttons above and below do previous and next track.
I have tried different programs on the Treo for music playback (Real Player, MOcean, TCPMP and PocketTunes) and the S9 control buttons worked with all these programs. I like PocketTunes the best because of its ability to play in the background.
Drawbacks? I used the original earbuds that came with the S9 and they started hurting my ears. But I listened to it all day at work for a whole week. Then I changed the earbuds to the round ones that come with it and they are very comfortable now. Of note, CNet says the headphones come with 3 different sizes of earbuds, but this was not true with mine. The are 2 sets of earbuds just like the ones in the pictures, and then one set of the earbuds that I changed it to that are more comfortable for my ears. The only other problem is the flap that covers the charger. It never looks like it fully closes flush, and it takes a little fiddling to get it closed.
Other than that, it is the best hundred dollars I have ever spent! I highly recommend these headphones.

Pros: at least I can still hear from the speakers
Cons: Buttons stop working after your 2nd WorkOut
The buttons stop working on the side of the headset after your 1st or 2nd Work out.
Motorola keeps telling me to take them back to the store, and I keep swapping however, this problem happens on all 5 times I have taken them back.

So Close... But no cigar yet
Pros: Great sound and easy to pair with other devices
Cons: Sound keeps breaking up outside...
Then I went outside... So what exactly is the point of having a sports headset that doesn't work outside. I'm an electronics guy and I simply can't believe this thing starts breaking up in the outdoors where there should be a lot less interference. I went to take the dogs for a walk and the cutting in and out was BRUTAL. Motorola says to hold the transmitter closer. I had it in my chest pocket (less than 20 inches from the device). It should be good for 30 feet so I hardly think that is the problem. I then thought maybe the connection between the phone and the Ipod to the headset was causing confusion. Turned the phone off and no help. I was really disappointed as I so wanted this to work and it was so so so close!! Also, everything was just charged so power is not the problem. The other issue with this design is wearing this with a jacket that has a collar. The collar and the neck piece were in constant conflict.
I returned them today and I'm going to try the Jaybird headphones. Hopefully that will be met with more luck.
Cheers!

Great Single Workout
Pros: Great Sound Quality, Good Fit, Easy to Use
Cons: Only One - the controls short out with sweat
After buying the headphones and easily connecting them to my Q, I loaded the Q up with Harry Potter (yes, I know, wierd choice) and ran off to the gym. The workout consisted of a 4 mile run (jog for most). I will be honest, I do sweat. However, these headphones are specifically for "active" people and are touted as sweat resistant. After I got the volume right and queued up Harry and his adventures, everything went great for the entire workout (except my Q rebooted once, side issue).
The next day, I decided that I might try them out at work while I was setting up some equipment in the warehouse. Funny thing is that the volume up, next, and play/pause buttons no longer worked.
After talking with customer service who are undoubtably not located in the US, they agreed to give me an RA number to return the headphones - once received on their side they promised to get me out a new pair. I decided before doing so I would check the web for others with the same problem. My heart sunk when I read the numerous USER reviews that indicate the same thing.
So, instead of sending them to Motorola, I will be returning for a refund. Man, I wish they didn't have this problem because they have incredible sound quality and a good fit.
Guess that I will have to go back to the IPOD and IPOD earbuds. Oh well...

Looks great and felt great while wearing. The volume quality was JUST average.
Pros: Good looking, pairs easily, comfortable on my head.
Cons: Poor volume, has static often while working out at the gym.
I'm totally dissapointed with the S9 simply because the reason I bought it WAS for use during my workouts which is what Motorola advertises in a big way. Well, that notion bombed big time. In my opinion, the S9 is not worth the consideration as a stereo boothtooth headset for working out at a gym or any other place that isn't a VERY quite environment.

Practical headset
Pros: Only one headset needed
Cons: Rear neckband does not sit flush with neck
The audio quality for music is good. As for phone, I would rate quality about an 7.5 out of ten.
It was dead easy to set up out of the box, just like any other Motorola bluetooth unit or other bluetooth units for that matter.
There is one problem I find when benchpressing/lying down (for those who do not benchpress) and that is the rear headband interferes with lying down. All you do is adjust the angle so that it is flush with your neck, but that is about it.
Battery life is what amazes me. I think I am getting about 5 hours of use, and charging it about once per week.
I am a discerning gadget man. Given all the features of this piece - it's lightweight, superior workout performance, all in one unit, ease of use out of the box, battery life, I will not need to purchase another headset be it for music or phone calls until the next version of this comes out!

Very good product
Pros: wirelss connectivity
Cons: bluetooth for phone lacks quality sound
My intent (I also own the Bang and Olufsen Ear2 bluetooth, best bluetooth on the planet for phone calls bar none) was to use the S9 for music only and take advantage of its' ability to interrupt a call and let me know I have a call coming through. I usually answer the call with the S9 and if it is a short call I will take the conversation with the S9, if its going to be longer, I will ask my caller to hold a minute while I switch to the handset (Motorola RzrV3) via a couple of quick keystrokes on my phone and then just pop the S9 off. This works well for me as I usually use the S9 at the office (software developer) or while working out.
In the car I use the Ear 2.
I think it is worth the money, though I am still guaging the actual battery life of the unit.
How Apple could create something as Edge of Art as the ipod Touch and then leave it to the user to have to purchase an external bluetooth adapter I may never understand.

Not worth 100$
Pros: small, sleek design is attractive
Cons: background noice, poor sound quality
The S9 design is good but unfortunately there is a constant humming noise even with no sound playing, and you have to turn up the volume higher than I like for the song to overpower it.
Sound quality much better on 590 than S9
Call quality is okay on the S9 if you are in a dead quiet room. They pic up more background noice on calls than the 590. So strike two for S9.
Strike three is the price. Not enough value for for the cost.
Don't buy.

It's great, when it worked
Pros: It allows you to get all of your blue tooth gear hooked into one unit with great features
Cons: They stop working for no reason
It was a fantastic purchase.
Then after a month. It just stopped working for audio and only for the cell phone. Then it just stopped working.
The headset cost too much to replace every month, and the more I read about everyone else's similar problems, I am disinclined to purchasing from motorola again.

Freedom at last! Look no further for your wireless headphone solution.
Pros: Excellent form and functionality
Cons: Default earbuds terrible.
After ruling out the super-expensive and/or bulky ones, I moved down-market to ones under $100 where I "lucked out" on a sale of this product.
I was pleasantly surprised. Here's what I found:
Excellent sound quality: When playing music, I found the stereo sound from both my computer and smartphone were superlative.
Being picky about my music quality, I have about 6 (wireline) headphones sitting around collecting dust that did not make the grade. Once I changed the default packaged, painfull and uncomforatble earbuds to another set (included) I was thouroughly amazed at the sound qaulity. So much so that I'm going to try it in my gym as a great alternative to messing with wires while on the machines.
A perfect blend of high and midrange with rich, fat bass that felt like two speakers thumping in your ear. All with no discernable distortion...and no outside static. Truth is, I've not found one wireline in or over-ear overheadphone that came close.
As for phone capability. I must admit that I'm not crazy about hearing out of one ear when two earbuds are availalbe....however it was better than my H500 for clearity and background noise. Considering that you get both phone and stereo capability it is still very much worth it. (took half-point off for the one ear thing)
As for functionality: You can find just about any of the device controls you'd need (answer, mute, volume, song selection etc.) can be found right on the headset, with a very small leraning curve to get used to them.
The controls are light-touch but not too light that they would be mistakenly activated. The response time is comparable to selecting the command right on the device (phone or computer) themselves with an appropriate indicator beep(s) to confirm command.
You'd think with all of this, you'd end up with a bulky and heavy headset that can only be used while sitting down...certainly not while jogging or such, WRONG. This is as light as any wired in-ear headphone that I've ever used...frankly I don't know how they pack all the functionality, good battery life and sound in such a small light-weight package.
Think this is pretty much as good as it gets as far as this type of product goes.
The only reason I gave it a nine was the one ear phone deal and the default earbuds.
They were so hard and uncomforatble that I could not fit them properly in my ears whihc took away most of the sound quality and made it necessary to take them off in under ten minutes.
Discovering the soft-rounded ones that were inlcuded in the package proved a world of difference.
My two cents....the packagers may want to consider using these as the default packaged in view of how many people may have returned the unit without giving it a fair shot.
Otherwise, if you're on the fence about them, time to jump off....I have no regrets about doing so...and..they seem to be on-sale all over the place these days.
My review is the same. I am just trying to change the rating number to the 9 that I had assigned before submitting opinon.
Maybe used scrolling function before clicking outside of rating slider windwo.

Slightest Bit of Sweat Shorts Out Unit
Pros: Good fit and sound
Cons: Multiple pair have died from sweat exposure, long turnaround time for warranty replacement
I wear them running and have broken two pair, about 25 minutes into my run. The left earphone stopped working on the first set and the volume and control buttons started acting on the own the second time, beeping, lowering the volume, and basically malfunctioning.
There are a lot of people with the same complaint (see: http://andnowyouknow.net/accessories/58-20070620/). although Motorola has been good about replacing the first two pair, I've had to pay return postage and have been without them for 3 weeks each time.

This Headset Is Da Complete Bomb!
Pros: Stylish, Unique. Very, very decent stereo separation. Some of you Mega Bass fans may be somewhat disappointed, even though the bass response is well more than adequate for freedom from wires!
Cons: Getting nearly 3.5 hrs. of playing time from my headset. Get into the habit of capping it off w/ the recharger every night. Wish headset could have longer batt life for longer train trips.
2. Absolutely make sure that your audio device is Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) capable in order for it to be compatible w/ this headset. When I first shopped for this headset, I knew NOTHING about Bluetooth compatibility profiles. Verizon.com/bluetooth changed that and taught me a LOT...WAY MORE than any of the salespersons in all the usual electronic stores (no names, please).
3. Spend LOTS of time reading the brochure that comes in the box and even MORE time in your easy chair fitting yourself w/ this headset BEFOREHAND so that you can enjoy yourself on the bus, train, etc. and not have to mess w/ it once you've adjusted / bent the flexible parts to custom fit perfectly. Go ahead; it's amazingly durable.
4. I'm waiting for LG Chocolates (I have the snazzy Blue Mint) to eventually upgrade to include the Audio Visual Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) so that the remote features in the headset will work w/ my phone. Currently, LG Chocolates do not have AVRCP, but I learned this well before I bought the phone and the headset. Fortunately, the LG Chocolate Blue Mint is a very cool phone to handle, esp. w/ the navigation wheel, soft touch buttons and large viewing screeen, so I don't mind controlling my audio from the phone itself.
5. If there is ANYTHING "con" I have to say about the Motorola S9 is that it's signal reception power could be improved. I'd LOVE it if I could have my phone in my horizontal leather belt holster rather than in a sports armband when using the stereo audio. As much as I LOVE the way the sports armband makes my gym-body biceps look even larger and more defined, sometimes the sports armband just does not go w/ the attire. Additionally, while in flight on an aircraft, Bluetooth usage is not allowed at the time of this writing. All considered, however, even the fashion police would consider getting one of these, even if they had to use an armband w/ their iPod, Nano, or multi-function Bluetooth wireless unit.
Have spent weeks and weeks searching. Finally found this solution. I hope it helps all those of you who are frustrated at finding replacement earbud pads for your Motorola S9 Motorokr after the original ones got damaged or, more likely, fell off and got lost!
If you lose the original earphone caps on this unit (caution: they really DO come off too easily when putting the phones on or taking them off), see www.sumajin.com, a website based in Singapore. They have their brand of replacement foam earbud pads IN GREAT COLORS, called Funky Pads, which were originally designed for MP3 and iPods. They will take a while to ship from Asia; however, well worth the wait! They look great, feel great and fit the S9 ear speaker units completely and wonderfully. The Sumajin replacement foam ear pads are very thick and have smaller fitting holes so that the pad will enclose the S9 ear speaker unit. The edge of the pad holes even slip into the tiny slot circling the base of each ear speaker unit for a more secure fit and to keep dirt and dust from getting to the more sensitive parts of the stereophones.

"Sweat resistent"... they are NOT!
Pros: Elegant design, easy to use, comfortable
Cons: Three units have failure due to sweat
It is unfortunate because the S9's are very comfortable while working out. The headphones stay in place, and the unit itself is very discreet.

This technology hasn't yet been perfected
Pros: Inside: Awesome call and music quality- can walk far away from device (three rooms away). Surprised that others said I sounded clear on the phone (despite location of mic).
Cons: Outside: Music "breaks up" during jogging. This seems to have nothing to do with movement, but just with environmental issues. Bulge in back of unit rubs up against hoodie or collar of jacket.

AWFUL -- is it just me??
Pros: I actually LOVE them -- Great styling, comfortable, "easy to use" interface
Cons: I've gone through 2 pairs, and they both stopped working after 2-3 weeks!!
Anyway, if you want a neat pair of headphones, get the S9s. I think the sound is great for music, calls are clear, they're comfortable to wear during phone calls if you're driving or if you're at the gym. But if you want something that lasts for more than a month, you're S-O-L.

Great A2DP System
Pros: Great For Stereo Music, Good Bass
Cons: Pressure on the ears, calls only on the left side
My set is the red one, also you can find it all black. On the left side you will find: less volume, call or answer call and More volume. On the right side is before song, play/pause and next song. All the controls (if you can call them that) they are more like touch controls and work great once you get to find them with practice. You can still hear the ring tone on the phone, but the head set rings also making it easy to know there is a call to be answer. Calls are ok, there are time when the caller can not hear me and I have to talk loud but over roll they are good, when you play music and you have a call music pause and you can hear the ring tone, after the call the music resumes.
Pairing the headset was a flash, it has a bottom on the back for power and a cover for the mini USB charger (do not work while charging), it can be wore while you work out but if you jump my be uncomfortable after a while, they are light.
PS: I ride a motorcycle and the hear peace will not feet under the helmet.

Goodbye MOTO
Pros: Nice design, great concept
Cons: Product doesn't match the marketing
The problem is that the product doesn't live up the marketing hype. My first pair worked great for about two weeks. The second lasted a little longer, because I took a month off from running. After two weeks of running the buttons on the second pair stopped working.
Motorola is replacing them under warranty, but I'm confident they will get them back after another two weeks of running.
Don't waste your money if you are buying these to use during a workout.

After 3 others, I finally found S9
Pros: Lightweight, comfortable, sleek, non-obtusive, great sound, easy to use, great controls
Cons: No USB cord
My first Bluetooth unit was another Motorola (Soundpilot). Everything about the listening experience was fine, and I could hear the callers great. The major problem is no one could hear me. The whole intent for me was to be able to have something that I could switch over to easily to take a quick phone call and then get back to my music/audio book/etc. without a lot of fuss. Another problem with the Soundpilot is I still found myself detangling cords on my wireless headset.
The second bluetooth unit was the LG Bluetooth Stereo Headset. It worked great, and was the best of all three Bluetooth units in regards to the other person being able to hear me. It was too large, though, and my ears tended to get pretty hot. Not to mention the quality of the phone itself wasn't very good. In fact it was terrible as it cracked after only 4 days use.
I was about to switch back to a corded option, when I decided to try the S9. I have to admit that I thought it was going to be too space age looking on me (I am a little on the conservative side), but I find that it blends in very well on my hair line. It is very comfortable. It did pinch my ears a little like others have stated, but all I had to do was adjust the rotation of the little cups and they fit great!
I would love it if the battery lasted longer, but it is as good if not better than the others items in this category.
It does pick up more background noise when on a call than I would like, but I have another Bluetooth option if I know I am going to be speaking on the phone for longer periods of time. I got the S9 so I could enjoy my music and books in stereo and be able to take calls with ease (I found myself with only one bud in my ear and my old "stickly for phone" headset on the other so it would minimize the manipulation of multiple items to get to the phone call).
The controls are very easy to use. I have only had it for less than a week, so I am anxious to get it past the 2-week mark and see if it outperforms some of those who have had control issues.
I would definitely recommend this to others.
I agree that it would be nice to have a USB cord shipped with the unit, but the armstrap that came included with mine is great!
This is not a phone (like I inadvertantly stated), but a headset...

Pros: Great sound. Comfortable. Bluetooth. Excellent to use at the gym!
Cons: For those who wear glasses - this does offer a challenge.
These also work while making calls (NOTE - you will ONLY hear sound in one ear piece as indicated in the manual). I made a few calls with these and no one knew I wasn't using the phone mic.

Mostly good
Pros: Sound is decent, functionality is good
Cons: Bluetooth has horrible connectivity
1. Head size-I have a larger than normal head and was concerned that the headset wouldn't fit correctly. However, it does fit and feel comfortable although I wouldn't mind about a 1/2 more on each side.
2. Battery duration-I've been happy with the battery duration. It holds on strong for about an hour and a half of listening to books on tape which is more than enough for my purposes.
3. Treo 650 compatibility-The headset worked out of the box for the phone function but I had to buy additional connectivity software from softstick to get the headset to work with my Real Player and Audible book tape software. Once I bought the additional software for about $20 it worked great.
4. Bluetooth-My biggest disappointment has been the bluetooth range. I like to put my Treo 650 in a belt pouch and listen to books on tape when I go walking but was disappointed to find spotty connectivity when the belt was around my waist. I ended up having to put it in an armband to get it to work without constantly cutting out. In fact, it works better when the Treo is across the room than when its around my waist area. This would be acceptable for a cheaper unit but for how much I paid for this, I was very dissapointed. The whole point of bluetooth is to be able to put this in my pocket and not have to hassle with wires.
5. Durability-I was initially impressed with the simple design and thought it would be able to stand up to exercising, walking etc, but lately I've found that the forward button will randomly engage in the middle of listening to a book tape. This is very frustrating when your suddenly bumped to the next section in the book and lose your place. It seems to go away ,for a while, if I massage the buttons, but with how new this is, it shouldn't be happening at all.
My final analysis always boils down to whether I would do this again if I had a do-over. In this case I would do over if the cost was about $50 dollars but at $100+, I wouldn't do it again. I would just stick with the old style headphones.

overall great item.
Pros: good sound, good reception
Cons: not quite flexible enough, noisy for person on other end of phone.
It paired very easily with my Blackjack, and when I turn it on, it pairs quickly again. The reception is excellent - I have gone as far as 40 feet (straightline) before I started to experience static. At times, however, when the phone is in my pocket, depending on how I turn, it tends to drop a little. Usually, though, my phone is on my hip, with no issue there.
I use this headset in some pretty harsh conditions. I service commercial a/c equipment, so I find myself using it on roofs, in equipment rooms, and in attics. It performs flawlessly around all the equipment, and does not impair my work if I need to squeeze into a small area.
I can hear a conversation just fine, but it seems that people on the other end can't hear quite as well as I would hope.
Talking: Background noise does tend to be an issue with this headset. I usually overcome this by talking louder, but it is somewhat annoying. I would change this if possible.
I would also like the headset to be a little more flexible. While pretty much comfortable for the most part, it would be great if it had some adjustability to the length of the temple pieces. But, I am pleased enough with the comfort.
I am also, at this point, pleased with the battery performance.
Buttons: It took me about 1 week to get accustomed to the location and sensitivity. Now, I have no issues with them (and my fingers are not the most agile). Motorola could improve them, but I can live with them.
Overall, I am satisfied with this headset.

Pros: Great sound. Easy to use.
Cons: Slight discomfort when wearing.
After wearing for a while the earbuds do begin to hurt. But I have found that this can be prevented by simpling turning the earbud tips to fit in you ear better.
Must have for anyone who wants to go wireless with their music. They work great with my LG Wave and also very well with my laptop.

I am so lucky that i was born in this TECH age
Pros: Sound quality, weight, style of wearing, ease of operation
Cons: It hurts...
Its a masterpiece. Sound is crisp, clear and rich. It weighs only a few grams. After listening to songs for hours I was encouraged to watch a movie, and sound was so damn good, I was patting myself on my back throughout the movie.
I also like the fact that when u r charging it, the status light turns yellow from red after it headset has been charged 25%. So u can keep track of the charging process.
Changing tracks, adjusting volume, playing and pausing tracks are just a breeze. Some people have criticized the controls, but i find them perfectly fine.
I hate to admit it, but headset hurts after wearing it for sometime. May be the earbuds r large or may be its supposed to be like this.
But belive me, deciding not to buy S9 would hurt u even more.
Mark my words, its the BESTest
Now stop reading all these reviews, go and grab one S9.
Cheers to S9

I like it so far, but def takes some getting used to
Pros: buttons are easy to use and it doesnt make you look like a cyborg
Cons: can be uncomfortable for people with bigger melons and the sound quality is so/so
it took me a while to get comfortable with it. i changed out the earbuds and finally found it to be comfortable. it is tough to use w/ glasses / sunglasses though as it is makes them slide around. all in all i like it, but I figure there will be something better in the next year or so.

Wow! best bluetooth stereo headphones on the market by far!
Pros: looks great around your head, sound is excellent, very loud, comfort, easy to use buttons
Cons: your voice is recognized through a small speakerphone, will pick up background noise.
After doing a lot of research, I decided to buy these b/c i thought they looked the most subtle and seemed to look very cool when ur wearing them. Most of the other stereo bluetooth headphones are gigantic and make you look like a nerd. Research told me that most the of the stereo bluetooth headphones are still poor quality when listening to music but I wanted one anyway.
I bought the s9 for $74.99. I wasnt expecting much, but I found out that this thing is great! Everytime I use it, I can't stop smiling b/c its so cool!
Some people were complaining about the comfort. I have a normal size head and it fits perfectly! I can't feelany of the wraparound piece, it just feels like I'm wearing regular earbuds.
The sound is fantastic! I can't hear any difference between these and my best pair of headphones...seriously! tremendous bass sound, everything is crystal clear.
a problem with most bluetooth stereo headphones is the loudness factor, they don't get loud enough. You won't have a problem with that when using these. I have these set to volume 4/10 and its perfect loudness. When set to 10/10, you can listen to the song clearly w/out even having it in ur ears.
The buttons are great. They are very easy to use. Don't listen to the other guy that said the volume control is screwed up. It does make a very subtle beep but the music doesnt pause. The beep is actually good b/c you know when u lowered or raised the volume.
the only con I can come up with is when your talking to someone with these, you are talking through a small speakerphone b/c there aren't any pieces close to your mouth (if there was, it would look pretty lame). It will pick up background noise that the other person you are talking to can hear. I normally bought these for listening to music though, not calling people. Other than that I can't think of any other cons.
I really don't know why this isn't scored higher. Maybe it just works well w/ the LG chocolate or something...it's great b/c the color matches perfectly with it too. This is one of the best decisions I've ever made in buying electronics. I'm so happy with it. Buy it! you won't regret it.

Not such a good fit...
Pros: Audio quality, range, style, controls
Cons: Astonishingly uncomfortable
The ear mounted controls make listening to and controlling music, as well and making and receiving calls a breeze – plus you get to feel a little like Lieutenant O’Hura. For best hands-free calling performance you’ll want to use the S9’s with a phone that has good speech recognition.
In addition to the great controls, the audio quality of the S9 is very good as well. Clear highs, nice midrange, and warm bass -- all well balanced at both high and low volumes.
Be forewarned, however, that while the headphones are capable of great audio your device may not be. For instance, my Vista Tablet PC rocked with the S9, while audio from my phone was "fuzzy." Listening to the same music on my phone with wired headphones produced beautiful audio. Clearly some phones could use better A2DP profile support (I’m talking to you HTC.)
The styling of the S9 is nice as well. And they are light-weight. But the real issue isn’t always weight. In the case of the S9, a product that I would otherwise rate as a 10, there is a major problem that makes it loose 5 points: the S9 is the most uncomfortable device I have ever worn over my ears. The CNET review hints at, but largely sidesteps, this very serious issue.
Because of the hard plastic used in the construction of the arms, the S9 squeezes against your head just above the ears. After just 30 minutes it this can become extremely uncomfortable. And don’t even think about wearing sunglasses or a hat with the S9 as both compound the problem significantly. A lesser issue is discomfort in the ear opening where the drivers rest, although this could probably compensated for with a different size earpiece, of which several are included with the S9.
To summarize, the S9 is excellent technology that works well, but it’s industrial design is severely flawed if Motorola intended to target consumers that would wear the S9’s for hours at a time. I suppose I could just have a big head, but I wear a medium in a baseball cap. Go figure.

This S9 turned out to be very good better than what I thought it would have been
Pros: The music sounds great once you put on the ear buds which come with it
Cons: Talkin on the phone is great if your by your self with no noise
I am a body builder and the weight room can be pretty loud. The S9 is great at blocking the noise. Very light weight product.
If you have a Motorola HT820 it is almost as good as this but it's to big and doesn't give you the bass that you thought you would get from it.
Last and for most do not buy this at Best Buy or Circuit city because they will put a whole in your wallet (about $120.00) get it online or a music store like J&R's. I got mines at J&R's during the July 4th sale for $80.00 and tax.
This is a must get product if you love wireless music, love looking stylish, and you love being up to date on your technology.

Pretty good, but have some glaring deficiencies.
Pros: Small, lightweight, comfortable (for my head.)
Cons: Sound, microphone vulnerable to ANY wind (even the AC in my house.)

Great until the buttons stop working...
Pros: Great sound, comfortable to wear
Cons: Control buttons stop working, on my 3rd headset
I bought my first set, they worked fine for a couple months, then 3 of the 4 touch-sensitive buttons stopped working. Had them to long to return, so had to ship them to Motorola for replacement, and shipping is not covered.
Got so used to having them, couldn't do without -- so bought another one and figured I'd go with 2, having a charged one at all times. After a couple weeks now, the volume controls stopped working, and the forward/back buttons are working inconsistently.
Primarily worn during workouts, I don't think this headset likes sweat -- it's the only thing I can think of that is frying the control buttons.
Hopefully, they'll iron this out with future builds, but the initial ones that have gone out seem to be duds. The first one I purchased online, 2nd at a local Best Buy.

sounds good but not 100% sweatproof
Pros: comfy device, good sound
Cons: little bulky, salt from sweat will kill it
I did no research to know what other headphones were out there, so I was kind of going at it blind. This model just happened to be newly released (bought in Apr 07), but I had no idea.
This was my first Bluetooth device, so I didn't know what to expect. I was pleased at first at how well it worked. Sounded clear and plenty loud.
After the trip, I began using the headset while cycling and inline skating. I tend to do many hours at a time on the bike or skates. But one day recently it was in the 90s and I was sweating like crazy. The next day the buttons were not working and I noticed that there was quite a bit of salt caked up around the speakers. Don't have to be Sherlock to know what happened. So I simply took the S9s back to Best Buy and traded them in on a new set. But this time I started using the large, soft earcups. Sounded even better! But now it might be more dangerous to bike or skate since the fat earcups tend to block out more ambient sound.
I love them, but they aren't as sweat resistant as they are claimed to be.

Great headset from Motorola
Pros: Lightweight, not dorky looking, decent sound
Cons: needs an adapter for regular iPod

Worth buying
Pros: Great sound
Cons: Battery life could be better
Range depends on the bluetooth hub your using bluetooth is not as good as wireless 802, but it is good enough with the range around 30 feet and the ability to go through walls.
Phone implementation is fair. The mic (hidden in the earpiece) is shakey but alright. Sound only comes through the left ear and that is disappointing. Pairing with my LG cu400 was a snap.
Comfort is alright, I agree with the CNET reveiew in that the earbuds can pinch if not put on correctly.
Cost is too high a price point of $50-80 would be a lot better but right now this is pretty bleeding edge and there is a strong demand for this type of product so Motorola will get away with > $100 prices for a while.
Documentation with bad, the manual is small and the troubleshooting section a joke. Sadly this is the way things are in today's.
world.
If you are connecting to a computer remember to change your sound output via the control panel -> sounds -> audio from your sound card to bluetooth audio device.
Bottom line: I love this product even with it's imperfections.

what sucks about these things is that the're so few of them
Pros: it looks pretty good and the features are great and a bit stylish
Cons: the price is tottally jacked up! and there are much better ones!
buy it when the price drops down. why would you ever get it so expensive just to have bluetooth? use your other ones for a few more years....besides headphones don't even last that long!
