    "Excellent Sound Quality; Seriously Underpriced!!!"

by carlycfs on November 29, 2006

Pros: Bass Vents, Pull Relief Band to Protect the Cord Connection, Confortable fit, Unbeatable price for this Quality of Sound

Cons: Cord a bit long - other than that they are great!!

Summary: I BELIEVE THERE ARE 3 CATEGORIES OF HEAD PHONES:

    1. INDOOR - The coconut sized over the ear headphones that offer the most incredible, surreal, audio listening adventure known to man (used exclusively at home or music recording studios; unless your rich and wasteful and take them everywhere)

    2. TRAVEL - Mid-Sized, not necessarily covering the entire ear, noise canceling, great sound, portable, comfortable, and sometimes not too flashy so you don't get robbed in broad daylight!
NOTE* There are those special travelers who could care less about getting robbed, gaffled, snatched, or flanked and otherwise fully grovel in the blatant flossing of their expensive MP3 players & headphones as if they're rich beyond belief - believe it or not, these headphones will work for you too because they look COOOOL!!

    3. WORKOUT/EXERCISE/ACTIVE LIFESTYLE - A pair of headphones, lightweight and cheap, exclusively for sweating (jogging, rollerblading, bicycle riding, or sit-ups in the house, etc.). Something that kind of sounds good but can be thrown away without breaking your wallet if lots of sweat or a fall ruins them.

I was looking for the Headphones that fell into this Category, (3). When I saw the price of the Phillips HS 520 and wrap-around-the-BACK-of-the-head style, I figured these were it. Conversely, once I listened to my music with them, I was shocked!! These sound great!! And then I thought, gee, maybe the other higher priced ones sound even better. So, I brought my MP-3 player to the store (so ?I? could be the one to choose the music to sample) intending to sample the other brands, but they wouldn?t let me open the package to test the headphones- the store clerk said I had to purchase them first. Ok fine.

Next payday, I went back to the store and this time bought another pair of HS 520?s along with 5 (five) other brands of headphones, took the packages up to the customer service center, and opened each package right in front of them. I stood at the counter with all the noise of customer traffic and chatter and sampled each headphone back and forth. When I was done, I was astonished because of the LOW PRICE and incredible sound - - I decided to keep the 2nd pair that I had just purchased and handed over the other 5 headphones, collected my RETURNS money, and away I went. Since then I?ve purchased at least 10 pairs on eBay for all my relatives and they love em!

I purchased them Aug 2005. I do house construction, mow the lawn, paint, bike, rollerblade, jump rope, jog, sprint, and even carried them in my back-pack to use up the mountain during wild land firefighting season; they are durable and still sound great! What?s more, I use the other pair I purchased for Category (1.) listening- Ha!!

Overall, these headphones offer a very attractive design and come with a 3.5mm 24k gold-plated plug on the end. The fit to the ear is soft and cushiony and fits snug but no so snug it hurts your ears. Because of this, they could easily fit into Category (2.), for travel. However, it also holds its ground in category (3.) due to the reflective material on the headband, which shines at night while you jog or cycle, and the pull relief band that protects the cable connection, which is by the way, cloth braided.

In the end, it might seem like these headphones are designed for a person with an active life-style, but they are truly an incredible consumer buy and feature unbelievable sound for the price. Check Best-Buy, WalMart, K-Mart, and eBay if you?re interested.
