Pros Crisp, tight, full sound.
Cons Get a bit warm after extended listening (like all sealed)
Summary These really are top of the line headphones. Some people might prefer the 600's or a Grado, or a Bayer (Though I don't think any Bayers live up), but we're talking about small degrees and very personal preferences. No one will say that they're not great phones, and the bass response is truly amazing. Bass from a loudspeaker is bass you can actually feel, which is one big difference between headphones and loudspeakers. These cans do an incredible job of letting you "feel" the bass. And, of course the sweet sweet mids (Most important) and crisp, yet accurate (not overdone) highs put these phones at the absolute top.
Pros greatly improved bass over hd600 tighter everything stunningly beautiful and transparent sound so comfortable, you'll forget you're wearing them.
Cons you need to have a really great hi-fi system to do justice to these cans (I guess that's not really a con though) reccomended investment in cable upgrade to Cardas headphone cable to get the full benifit (~$100-200)
Pros Transparent sound with solid bass. Good mechanical quality.
Cons Feels heavy on the ears. Not really for portable use.
Summary For the price, Sennheiser has done a great headset providing very high-end sound quality for the price. Deep solid bass combined with generally an overall open and transparent sound makes it a great performer.
Anybody who think their MP3 player sounds poor, before you judge the player, try these and you will realize that 90% of your problem was not the player. Well, with this headset the sound quality of your MP3 player matters. And now 128kbps MP3 is surely insufficient
Still it would be great if CNET could test a pair of Stax electrostatic 007 Omega 2 headset to really find the best of the best. Nothing compares in my opinion (no other headset or speaker can make sound so transparent) but the price is also much higher and it's certainly not a portable solution.
Great that CNET is getting some focus on the headsets out there. Too much low performance crap is on the market and many people tend to not know what they are missing.
Pros deep bass, clear high notes.
Cons That i cant wear them while driving!
Summary I have had these headphones for 3 years now, and they still sound amazing.
They come with a custom box which has molding on the inside and two sturdy hinges for transport, this is a very nice quality, and I have used this many times.
to argue with soviet123
Mine have been dropped many many times, and they are in no way fragile. I sleep in these headphones almost every night, and they somehow get thrown off onto the floor. They have fallen off my desk which is 3 ½ feet tall many times and have a few small nicks on the underside of the headband from that. BUT NO CRACKS or any scratches in the paint. Headphones just get abused from daily use, and the cord is very sturdy. It has been ran over with a rolling chair many times, and never a scratch.
After having these headphones for three years, a lot has happened to them. And I have put them through an average amount of abuse, but I take care of them as much as I can. I don’t play music too loud, and I don’t throw them across the room to see if they will break. And I don’t light them on fire. I do play the bass as loud as my system will allow however, and the the 650’s sound very crisp and clear. Many different genres of music have flowed through these. I often hook them up to a guitar amp, so that I can get a very crisp clean sound while I play.
When you listen to trance while wearing these headphones, it is true bliss. You can easily spend a couple hours.
Pros Tonal balance, detail, and comfort are all very good
Cons Honestly None
Summary I am a serious listener and audiophile, for 40 years, Sell and design some of the finest truly Hi-End audio system and have heard a number of headphones out there. Yes I would have to agree the Stax are still my all time favorites. Sennheiser used to make a top of the line phone which was outstanding, but probably not to many sold at there I beleive it was $10,000 price years back too. These Phones are very well balanced tonally (Meaning bass to high frequencys there is no area in the frequency responce that stands out in a bad way) One of the most comfortable headphones you will ever put on. I am in the process of trying different headphone amplifers and will make full comment on there over all performance after I try many, but to this point I would have to say they have to be one of the best phones out there certainly for the money. Grados may be the only headphone that comes close but I still feel the Sennhiesers outperform them sonically and not even close in comfort. The others being reviewed, PLEASE lol not even close. Worth every penny, Run dont walk, and buy a pair Kevin
