  • "Excellent headphone for extended listening"
    on by SternClyne

    Pros 1:Great bass
    2:Smooth delivery
3:Classical music fans will love these
4:Can be worn and listened to for long periods without listener fatigue

    Cons 1:Do sound slightly veiled
2:Can sound recessed due to falling HF response
    3:Fairly heavy, though comfortable

Summary I was initially disappointed when I got these headphones, the sound was not detailed enough for me, They sounded much better in the shop. I'm hoping that this means they will improve with long use. I even reverted to a favourite pair of phones that came with one of the first Sony mini-disc players, the MZ-R30 which have an astonishing sound but you cannot get extension cables for them as they are designed only for that player. I have now used the HD 650's for a while and I am liking them more and more. For extended listening periods they are extremely easy to live with. I still think they are slightly veiled and are not a headbangers 'phone but as I'm not a fan of that genre it doesn't matter. If I could only use one word to describe the sound of these ohones it would be 'luxurious'. I got them at a discount for £260 which is excellent value, no doubt there are better offerings out there but I can live with these for a while anyway.

  • "It may take time to get it"
    on by Barty1958

Pros Very natural sound - A leap into Audio heaven

Cons Initialy tight fitting and not suited to PC or iPod

Summary Its one of those conundrums. Should I have got the next one down and not spent the extra bucks on the "serious" one. I like the look of the HD595 and too a lesser extent the HD555. I have these cans just one day and I played them on my PC. Bad Mistake !. They need the power. But I sense this is going to take time , Burn in and play on my main system, I will revert and let you all know the results. Optimistic.

  • "WOW...nothing comes close"
    on by emrtr4

Pros Worth every penny, look around for $300 prices

Cons Expensive if you pay full price, breaking in period

Summary Nothing comes close, not even the Grados. If you want an amazing pair of headphones for home or the office, these are them. But be warned, do not buy these if you plan on them being portable. They need lots of power (Amp or AV reciever) to power them. Look around on the internet, I got it for $300 on Amazon markeplace. They were unopened, still in the sealed origional box, and had a 3 year warranty, with express shipping via US postal (bought un a thursday, delivered on a SAT....amazing) So if you look around you will find a great price.

Be warned, you need to break these headphones in, make a play list, or plug it into your reciever and turn on MTV and just leave on at low, medium, and high volume settings.

  • "Great... But..."
    on by rcalbin1

    Pros Sound Quality

    Cons Slightly Veiled

Summary These are great phones... but... may be very slightly veiled.

But... if you're prepared to invest in a great DAC/CDP (Rega Saturn, Marantz SA8100, CA 840C, Monarchy M24, etc.), a great head amp (e.g. X-CANv8, or DV332, or SP Extreme, etc.), and... "de'veil" them, as well as buy the RAL Cryo-Silver cable - you'll find it very hard to find anything better, if as good, except for the HD600s.

  • "I am using these with my iPod to tremendous effect!"
    on by HiFiNut

Pros Look silly when using outside working, but hey! who cares when the sounds this good!

Cons Thinking of upgrading the cable as mentioned in one of the other reviews

Summary Found this site while looking for the best headphones for my i-pod. I ended up with a pair of 555Senns as they were the best? on offer with a load that an iPod can push. After first listening and being very disapointed I started searching again.....there has to be better sound on offer?

Yes there is and with what ever headphone you favour! Why in the UK/Europe can't you get portable headphone amps? US sites have them etc. So after much searching I bought a C&C amp. Fantasic! Smaller than my G5pod velco'd to the back and with up to 70hrs between recharge. There are many makers of this kind of amp out there but this one is my favourite and with a hand made line-out cable instead of using the headphone socket I am for once satisfied with the sound I carry around (and use at home when I can't use my main speakers)

Have used my 555's which sound a whole lot better than just from the pod as they're powered properly but with better headphones WOW!

    Happy listening!

    Dave.
