"The gold standard for truly portable earbuds" on by electronista

Pros: Solid bass with clear treble, toughened design, easy to wear

Cons: Could be clearer, long cord, usual in-canal maintenance

Summary: This set of buds is probably the best choice for real-world listeners who want quality sound without either spending a lot of money or opting for bulkier over-the-ear headphones.

Many will point to higher-end sets, but they're not automatically better: many of those expensive pieces can't actually drive the iPod or other low-power devices properly without a headphone amp, so you end up either spending more money or settling for non-existent bass (or both). Shure's 'low-end' is actually quite punchy but certainly doesn't overwhelm the mid- and high-range sounds like you'd expect. They could produce slightly crisper sound, but the added cost may not be worthwhile.

And more importantly, these earbuds are tough. Sony's EX81 actually has slightly better treble, but it can fall apart in long-term use. Not so the E2c: the cords are wonderfully thick. The earpieces are well-assembled and don't feel like they might fall apart if left in a tight pocket. In other words, it's perfect for the street where accidental tugs on the cord or a crowded bag could ruin a fragile earbud set.

Watch out for that cord, however, as it's fairly long like many sets. And since it's an in-canal set, you'll spend time cleaning out wax (ick) or replacing the little speaker "grille" stickers that cover the opening (they supply about 10-12 in the pack, though they can easily last over a year). Nevertheless, the first time you hear your favorite tune at high quality and uncolored by background noises, you'll appreciate the small amount of effort you put in.

"Pretty Damn Good Headphones" on by sms8790

    Pros: Superb sound quality

Cons: Kind of tricky at first to get used to them

Summary: Alright, I bought these headphones (earbuds w/e u want to call them) not to long ago. They cost 100 dollars. Yeah, yeah that is kind of a steep price but hey u do get ur moneys worth. I recommend the black ones. They look way better than these white ones. When u buy these headphones, they actually come with a carrying case witch is pretty cool. I have yet to have a problem with these other than getting used to them at first. You'll get used to them though so that isnt a big deal. I bought these over those BOSE in-ear headphones because i heard that they have way too much bass and that they fell out of your ear pretty easily. With these Shure e2c phones they have only fell out of my ear once and that was because I was getting used to them. They havent fallen out of my ear yet ever since then! This is truly a good product if you dont want to spend the extra bucks for the e4c ear phones. I am not quite shure how much those ones cost but the man at bestbuy told me the only reason why they are better is because they have a digital thing in them that makes "better sound." I like my e2c phones and i am not dissapointed with them. I hope you found this helpful. thanks for reading

"Great sound, bad wires" on by kyung109

    Pros: Sound great

Cons: Wire housing breaks down after a few months

Summary: I use these headphones for jogging, traveling, etc...all the normal uses. I admit I don't store them in the little case they provide, but I doubt many people do. Anyway, they sound great but the wire housing on mine break down really quickly, especially when they're worn over the ear style. The housing just breaks down and cracks open exposing the wires. Kinda crappy considering the price. I've had cheap headphones that are more durable.

"These things sound fantastic" on by atfishman

Pros: Great sound and a good price for a Shure product

Cons: They feel a little different than other earbuds

Summary: I just bought a pair of E2c earbuds this week and I love them.I have had reasonably good earbuds and earphones in the past, and can hear the difference between good and bad quality sets,(apparently some people can't... or so I am told), and these sound very good. I know that they are more expensive than most earbuds, but they really are that much better than other earbuds. And they are actually cheap when you compare them to ther Shure products!

"Make sure you try ALL of the earphone sleeves" on by bflow4400

Pros: Clean sound, clear tight bass

Cons: Expensive, but worth every penny

Summary: I read a lot of reviews before deciding to purchase these, including models from Bose and Sony.

I have to admit when I first tried them out (with the clear PVC sleeves, which were on them when I opened the package) I wasn't very impressed. The treble sounded tinny, and the bass was almost non-existent. What I didn't realize until later is that they just didn't fit right.

Then I began trying out all of the different earphone sleeves, nine in total. When I got to the medium soft flex sleeves, which are made with a dark pliable rubber, I was blown away! You HAVE to make sure the sleeves fit properly, or you won't get the right sound. I highly recommend trying every single sleeve until you find the right ones that work for you.

I didn't even know music could be reproduced that way in headphones this small! The treble was clear and the bass was tight and controlled. Make sure you read the instructions first, too. There's a guard you have to place on the nozzle of the earphone before you use them. Get these. For the money, you won't be disappointed.
