"Simpy stunning"
Pros: Comfortable, reliable, great accessories, excellent isolation, and most importantly amazing sounding
Cons: Pricey but worth it
Summary: Well i have been through many, many earphones. I was initially satisfied with the Koss range, then with the Sony range and also owned many other brands that just didnt cut it. But all these brands would eventually stop working, or wear out due to regular wear and tear. And in comparison to my new E4's they sit in the dust.
Being a professional musician i was after a set of in ear monitors for practice at home as well as for live shows with my band. I stumbled across the Shure range, and while i was initially going to settle for the E2c or E3c's, i decided to go for the E4's due to their slick look, but also on the offer that they provided a boost in bass and low end qualities over the lower models.
So yes the truth is that as soon as i pulled them out of the box and popped them into my ears i was in Heaven.
There is so much differentiation between instruments, but at the same time the instruments blend together perfectly as well as the different frequency ranges.
The highs are not too high, giving a delicate and crisp sound (depended on the mix of the song played) and the mids are extremely warm yet dry, while the low end is clear and punchy, not at all muddy or distorted. While the low end isnt as evident as the cheaper headphones such as the Sony's, you will notice after listening to the E4's that it gives a representation which is close to how you would hear the intended song on the mix monitors in a recording studio. You will hear the song how was meant to be. And now i love listening to songs i've heard 1000's of times now because they have new life in them.
The overall sound i would describe as warm/dry with the utmost clarity, in a fairly flat range, which is what the discerning listener will be after. This also depends on which sleeves you use (I prefer the foam).
If you're a bass junky you may not be 100% happy, but with the quality of the E4's you will be a convert to more accurate sounding music, with the bass very much there but not overpowering.
These earphones are very tiny, and dont weigh too much, so they fit in your ears nicely, without falling out or irritating you.
For using them as a musician I couldnt be happier, with the sound of the other instruments and my own being blocked out enough to stop any hearing damage. So obviously for use on public transport or what not they are perfect.
I would not recommend these for use while driving or riding a bike though!!
One major design of the E4's which i love is the quality and ruggedness of the cables. These things aren't going to fall apart on you, neither will the rubber corrode after having sweat on it (like the Sony range), of course there is a 2 year warranty so that gives you added peace of mind.
So if you can get past the price, you will have an amazing product in your hands that you wont regret.
Shure you have one happy customer out of many im sure right here.
