"If not the best, fully superb enuf for me!"
Pros: Comfort: featherlight & compact; quality engineering: pure listening pleasure
Cons: Must be able to wear "correctly"; possibly not for everyone (?)
Summary: Wow. Wowie wow wow; I just love my E4's, and have had them for about 9 months. Everytime I fly, these are about the first thing I pack. I use them with my iPod, and poof - all that irritating background noise is just GONE. Instead, my head is filled with only the rich, studio-quality sound these mighty mites pump out - and that at ~half the volume needed for my old/cheap Labtec ICON-740's. Maxing the volume with these babies will about explode your skull - no kidding. My favored part of the listening spectrum, the midrange, is crystal clear, enunciated, perfect. Highs and lows are equally well represented; these reviewers who claim weak/non-existent bass cannot be wearing them properly - there is a HUGE difference if you just have them "in" your canal versus correctly slid down, in & "hermetically sealed". Shure provides a panopoly of fitting tips to enable you to achieve just the right sink. I too recommend the up-over-and-behind-the-ear set up, although find draping the cable down my back cumbersome.
Supremely comfortable, I've worn them non-stop on round-the-world flights, even acting as earplugs with my iPod turned off. The cables are sturdy, longlasting. If there's a better earbud headphone out there...well, I just can't believe it.
You do get what you pay for, and these little miracles are worth every freaking penny!
