    "Editors Choice....REALLY ! ! ! I'm returning mine !" on by hksz16

    Pros: Nice style, VERY comfortable,

Cons: Sound quality does not match the price... not even close

Summary: I bought these to replace the the OE (Original Equipment) earbuds that came with my iPod, maybe I got a bad set, but I think these only sound marginally better. Base is slightly improved and they do play little louder, but I think that's only because they fit snugly in your ear canal, blocking out all other noises. These distorte at the exact same volume level as my OE earbuds.... shouldn't $299.00 earbuds be able to play a little bit louder and clearer than the OE ones ??? Yes, they sound (slightly) better than OE, and I'd say these would be a good buy if they retailed for $89.00 or less.

"These earphones Rocks" on by shehzad

Pros: it,s sound accuracy and deep tight bass....... it,s realy awesome in earphones for portable music lovers.....

Cons: price and also cord is too long for portable use

Summary: In my Opinion, it,s realy awesome in earphones........ which give you sound accuracy across all frequency ranges (low, mids, highs). plus it,s sound isolating in earphones...... bass is very good and tight. highs are full with the details n mids also...... sepration is realy realy good you could listen all instruments in the music..... but the big competitor of Shure E4c is Ultimate Ears ( Super.Fi 5Pro in earphones)with low price tag than Shure E4c.. which comes with dual drivers one for lows and one for mids n highs, on 5Pro bass is more enjoyable and highs are slightly more crisper and also better mids than E4c ..

"My favorite daily headphone." on by reeltime

Pros: Superb sound. Most comfortable thing I've ever put in my ears. Great design. Sensational case. My best bang for the buck headphone.

Cons: Better sound than 99% of the market means there's room for 1% improvement. Yes these are that good.

Summary: Compromise. Every piece of audio equipment ever built has some compromises built in.

The Shure EC-4 is no different. Is it the most detailed headphone ever? No, but they're easy to listen to-- never fatiguing. Does it have the deepest bass? No, but fairly accurate. Most comfortable? Maybe. Does it block sound better than all the others? No, but it's darn good. Is it the cheapest? No, nor the most expensive.

When you look at what you need in a set of earbuds, and I consider my ears to be rather distinguishing, this product hits the sweet spot when it comes to price, performance and value.

These are very forgiving buds, they don't care about what your source is-- they go about their business of interpreting audio signals to the best of their ability.

They are sturdy and the cables are much thicker than their peers. They are built to last. Shure has a great repair service, too.

I recommend buying the foam yellow 'earplug' style tips (buy them in bulk from Amazon as they get dirty over time and need replacing). The foam gives a nearly impenetrable seal.

I have a ton of over ear and in ear headphones. I have pairs that go up to $1000 dollars. These are the ones I choose (even today) for regular daily listening. Extremely comfortable, extremely detailed and forgiving.

These are my choice for best all-round earbuds.

I have a new pair of UE Reference earbuds on order. It will be interesting to compare.

"Good sound quality but poor design and Customer Service" on by fireryan

Pros: Sound Isolating and sound quality

Cons: Gone through 3 pairs and $800 in less than 200 hours of use. The sound dampner becomes clogged in the nozel very quickly. For the money you might be better off buying a cheaper unit.

Summary: Good Sound but was turned off by Shure by my experience with their service department and the only relief was to replace my units with another $300. I find over a $1000 for decent headphone is a little too expensive to ask a consumer.

"Great sound...Poor quality!" on by ckaye1

Pros: The E4C's have great sound, they are very comfortable and have super sound isolation

Cons: I've owned 2 pairs of the E4C's and have had the insulation covering the wires on both the right AND left earphone on BOTH pair crack about an inch or two from the earphones exposing the wires causing a short in them making them unusable.

Summary: Contacted Shure regarding the cracked insulation on 4 separate wires (2 wires on each set of earphones) only to receive a standardized cost of repair list from Shure with no acknowledgment of this problem. I truly believe that a customer should receive much better service and attention from a renowned company that is charging such a premium price for their products. Sadly, I must expect too much and as such will now be searching for replacement earphones from a different company, perhaps one that will last more than 18 months and provide some more individualized customer service should it be needed.
