"The Best There is Besides $ 1,000 ultimate ears" on by charesr22
Pros: near perfect fidelity, inline crossover, much better than etys
Cons: none at all
Summary: The only in ear phone on the market today that is better than the shure e5cs is the ultimate ears ue-10 pro, however these require a trip to the audologist for a custom mold, and they cost 1,000, so they are absurd unless you are really a professional musician. That said, the shure e5cs deliver studio quality sound without being excessively expensive (you can get them online for 350 or so).
Bose headphones are a joke compared to the shure e5cs. But then again, that should come as no surprise, because Bose is to audio equipment what apple is to computers - a maker of vastly overpriced, low quality products that are marketed to morons who don't know any better. Like I said to my friend, if you want a nice 100 dollar pair of headphones, buy the Bose QC2s, except that you will get charged 300 dollars for them.
As for the ETYs, they are decent, and nothing more. The CNET editor who reviewed the ER-4 clearly doesn't know much about high end audio equipment. Sure, if you've never listened to audiophile level headphones before, and put on ETYs, you will think wow, aren't these great! Fact is, their bass is decent at best, although their fidelity is above average. In every way, the shure e5cs outperform the ety er4s. But then again, thats what you should expect, since you have to pay about 60% more for a pair of the Shure e5cs. I mean, you would expect a ferrari to be better than a lexus, right? You get what you pay for. So, if one is willing to enter this segment of the headphone market, I would suggest saving your money for a pair of e5cs rather than doing it on the cheap and getting ety er4s.
Lastly, the shures are actually worth the cost, you will smile as you discover a whole new world of music. -
"Nothing can compare" on by odesey
Pros: Superb sound and noise cancellation
Cons: Non - perfection isnt cheap.
Summary: If you live in NYC and ride the subway these earphones are the ones to get. Dont let the price sway you, i suggest you get them directly from shure so you can try them out for 30 days and decide if you want to keep them. The sound reproduction on these earphones are nothing short of incredible, its hard to believe that such deep rich bass can come from such small ear phones. While the bass is 2nd to none the mids and highs arent lacking either, you will hear instruments and tones previously MIA with other headphones/earphones. One word of advice though is to make sure all your mp3's are 192kbps or higher.

"Simply WOOWWW I'm speechless" on by sugun
Pros: Closest feel to Concert Live Music .....RICH....BASS KING
Cons: NONE...really I can't find any.
Summary: I admit that I'm not an Audiophile yet nor have I tried all the best headsets. I've been only able to try the Etymotic ER-4P, low-end sennheiser, few Sony and bunches of cheap headsets that came with portable audio players. So I'm just going to describe what I experienced with this AWESOME headset.
Sound Quality: Imagine right there in the front row of concert... Yes, it's that Full Rich Bold Detail TRUE sound qualities. To me, all frequency ranges are superbly responsive...so all kind of music sounds good. Some people think it's midrange is slightly weak but I don't see that. Very true reproduction of all Musical instruments...especially Piano and guitar. I'm starting to hear sounds that I've never heard before. Bass is especially AWESOMEEE. If you like bass-heavy music or Rock/Metal/Classic music types, this thing is a must for you. 2 things for sure, I can't go back to the other headsets (all now suddenly sound really awful) and I have to re encode all my CD to lossless compression (or at least 320kbps MP3).
With my wimpsy 30mW/ch iPod, no Amps is needed. Couple this superb sound quality, this headset easily worth every penny of it. Only after you've tried it that you will know what I mean.
It's unique in-ear design, fits in my ear perfectly...and stays there.
SHURE keep up the good work!

"These phones rock!" on
Pros: Terrific sound, wide selection of in ear options provided, dual drivers - amazing base, but also great range, heavy cord eliminates cord movement noise in ears (a problem with Etymotic ER4Ps I had before these), excellent range (bass and treble). The Sh
Cons: The price!

"Bose Car Audio In Your Head" on by Farjamed
Pros: amazing bass, LOUD and clear,
Cons: very little 'space' in the sound, needs an eq for some songs
Summary: If you've ever heard what a Bose sound system sounds like in a car, imagine that in your head..that is what these sound like--for good and bad. The bass is amazing and thumping (like sticking your head in a sub woofer), the highs are bright and clear. At times though it can seem like the sound is too immediate and like there isn't much of a soundstage. I dont really know how to explain this very effectively, but since the music is basically inside your head I guess it makes sense that there seems to be no "air" or "space" in between the sounds.
