"Outstanding sound-- reasonable comfort."4.5 starson by reeltime
Pros: Cost-no-object sound quality. Short of custom made $1000 dollar headphones-- there's nothing made today that sounds better in-ear.
Cons: They're not for every ear, and there is a fatigue factor.
Summary: I've had a lot of experience with earbuds. I wear them nearly all day long at work-- so I've worn many-a-pair out-- and know where most of the flaws lie in these things.I stand my my assertion over time that these earbuds do offer superior quality sound in the $500 range. There's nothing better for pure sound quality in this range of price. But I agree with shawnfbkev-- these are not comfortable over time. My ears want them out after a few hours. The EC-4 model (no longer made) is much more comfortable for a over a hundred dollars less and they give up very little in sound quality.
The biggest problem I've faced is durability. The SE-535s are durable. The heavy plastic shrink wrap over the connection between the cord and the earbud virtually make that connection indestructible. Other earbuds wear out over time at this connection.
Sound quality? The best. For $500 bucks, it should be. They don't boom like the cheaper models on the low end. If you're looking for beat-box sound-- pass these up. These are all about accuracy.
The only earbuds that surpass the 535 for in-ear sound are the custom fit models used by professional musicians. But those up the ante to around $1000 dollars.
The 535S are a bit uncomfortable over time. After a few hours, I need a break-- they can hurt a little.
Don't overlook the lower priced 4-series Shure headphones offer a "slightly" diminished sound-- but they are wearable for an entire day.
Unfortunately, after 2 years of heavy usage, the 4-series wear out at that critical connection between the cord and earbud. I've had two pair suffer the same fate. You can get them repaired but it costs around $100 dollars.

Put it this way, both the EC-5 (SE-535- they're the same) and the E4C (or EC-4) both live in my backpack. I have worn the EC-5 once or twice in the last 6 months, and I choose the EC-4 the rest of the time. I wear earbuds every single day at work.
