Sony MDR (DS3000 Wireless Digital Surround Headphones)

Pros: Got it a GREAT price

Cons: Not really what I expected

Summary: As I opened the box; the excitment just build... Out of Box Experience. Manual placed on top; AC adapter and headphone packed in protective cardboard with the scatchless felt plastic (which I use to store them in). After a 3 minute or less hook up to our digital cable box... I learned that it too had its own additional setup, hidden with a mandane course of menus. I would advise everyone to look into setting up the compression ratio and digital out feature on your cable box... which is not set by default.

Now back to the fun... as I flipped through the channels the decoder box picked up everything corresponding to it's signal. My girlfriend decided that Daria was a good choice to test... later that night we decided that the Fifth Element was the better choice.

As a SS system, it could never replace my JVC, at least not at this point... or with this system. It was nice since we live in an apt., but here is where the systems differ.

We decided to test the SS system with THX test from Episode I, I noticed that left & right sounded a lot like my JVC; ok good I thought; center channel... impressive. Sub... not present... not even a humm; NOW when is came to the rear channels or the special effect speakers... i thought it would have placed it further back and lower... hmmm... well lets try it with the movie, maybe I'm over reacting.

Ships flying from left to right channels, seemed more present in stereo but not in rear special effects... if it was played lower and deeper... it would have been exceptable.

In large rooms in star wars; was amazing, I was blown away.

Sword play: Would have been better if it didn't sound like it was in regular stereo... the bass needed to be present... very sad in this area. My girlfriend both felt it is a nice system... and is perfect for a quite night together; but i feel like it's missing some emff or ranges for lack of a better word.

For how little the decoder box does, they should have implimented a rear channel delay option, a bass control, and maybe even a 6 band equilizer.

We may upgrade to a more expensive model, looking for a broader range of features... but for know it not a bad choice. I would also like to see a cable, that will charge multiple headsets at the same time.
