"Best ear buds in its price range"
Pros: Comfortable, Good bass, Matches with sleekness and color of Ipod
Cons: At high volumes, others can hear the music
Summary: One of the hardest things about owning an Ipod is attempting to find a earphone that matches with it. I'm sure we all know how bad and uncomfortable the free buds are, so I ditched those automatically and went out in search for a better one.
I bought my Sony MDR-EX81's for Singapore $89, which is about US$50, a relatively cheap price. I was pleasently surprised to try them on and find that the sound quality to be pretty good. The bass guitar and drum can be seperated quite easily. Whilst quality of lower and higher frequencies could be improved, for its price I think there are no better ones available.
Comfort has always been what Sony has been reknowed for and this is no exception. Once in your ears it almost becomes second nature due to the lightweight and around the ear design.
One of the main concerns I have is that when you listen at higher volume levels, the sound can be heard by others around you. Not clearly, but still enough to be something that annoys me. I really dislike earphones that serve as a semi-amplifier as well. The wire does cause some rubbing noises, but they are only slight. I've tried cycling with them; jogging might cause more unwanted noise to occur.
