"Great, great earphones. Almost wonderful"4.0 starson by kuroyama--2008
Pros: Excellent construction, tonal balance
Cons: Sony still using that lopsided cable system
Summary: Recent business trip to Kawasaki and I was ready to try something other than my Sony MDR EX51s. In the past I had tried some Audio Technicas... but they had pretty poor bass response in my opinion. My stock Apple earbuds sound better. Ive had pairs of Sony MDR EX51 and 71s.
I dont understand how other readers are pulling their cables apart. If you handle the product with reasonable care it wont break. Having said that, I do agree *now* that the bass response in the 51s or 71s is a little loose.
I purchased the MDR90s and I am sorry I didnt do it sooner!! They are terrifically built and the clarity and depth of response is also very pleasing. I dont know that Id call these audiophile buds, but I also bought some Shure E2cjs the day before...
I have been listening to my iPod twice as much as I was before. I am now able to hear details in my music that I couldnt hear before... but whats better and probably more important for everyones general ear condition is that I am able to hear more at LOWER VOLUMES. I was listening to Prince, Yoshida Miwa, or Linkin Park at about a 7 or 8 *out of 10* or higher... but I now listen at about a 5 or 6... and Im still hearing more detail.
Well done Sony! Now if you could just abandon that unbalanced, uncomfortable, lopsided cabling system, youd really be on the road to greater sales... *itd also be neat to see some of the technology from these buds trickle down to some lower priced buds.*
