"blocked out a group of people carrying on in an employee lounge right next to my office!"4.5 starson by jlg999
Pros: Very comfortable; very effective noice canceling with great sound; can be tied up neatly enough for storage; earbuds!
Cons: Don't think I like the cord lengths from the processor to either end (buds or plug ends); spring clipping the processor to a shirt or somewhere is not always possible because of angles
Summary: My motivation for searching for noise canceling headphones was not eliminating the rumble from the train, bus, or plane, but to try to fight off noise pollution of the conversation variety--not the low frequency noise these products are usually designed for--from an employee lunch area right next to my office! Believe me, noise pollution anger can motivate you to try many things, and I've always loved *technology* for solutions! So anyway, on the basis of the cNet review here primarily, where the phrase stuck out that this model did a good job with higher-frequency noises, I went to my favorite retailer and got these headphones for $80--a great price considering suggest retail is $20 more, but still a risk if the product doesn't solve my problem...
Man I was in heaven! The product worked so well, I couldn't even hear one of the noisy lunch eaters say goodbye! DVDs and music I would hear at my desk were perfectly enjoyable because of sound quality (a tad less vibrant, flexible, and bright compared to my other favorite and excellent Sony earbuds, the MDR-EX71, but *nothing* to complain about: MDR-EX71's doesn't noise cancel!), comfort of the buds, *and* that I just couldn't hear the noisy talkers outside my office any more--concern number one! The only "problem" using this thing was trying to find the optimal place for the processor unit, especially when clipping the unit to my shirt (it has a spring-loaded clip for this) was not possible because of angles...trust me, this is *nothing*, but I wanted to offer a thorough review. This product is so good, yet hard enough to find info on to merit taking the chance, that I felt obligated to write this review. Thanks to the cNet editors for giving me something to work with!
The only thing I didn't evaluate was how long the not-included AAA battery would last in the unit, but I don't care, as I keep a good supply of batteries at all times. So far, no bad surprises here...
I didn't have any problems with the wires tangling as has been stated by others. The two twist ties the unit comes with, along with a plastic piece to hold the buds together for storage, make putting this sucker away in the included drawstring pouch neat! My quibbles, as I hope you've decided by my rating, are very minor as would be my other quibble about worrying about losing the little piece that holds the buds together for storage. And plus, I was able to get this from a major retailer for only $80. Unbelievable!
