"Best pair of headphones ever!" on by sharkeyjeff

Pros: Sound is awesome, long cord is a big plus.

    Cons: Fragile, weird 1/4" adapter.

Summary: I am professional sound engineer, and have had a pair of these for over two years. I don't mix with anything else. I also listen to [roughly] 8 hours of music from my computer on a daily basis. These headphones are one of the best purchases I ever made; worth every penny and then some. They sound AWESOME across the board, but especially in the low-end (< 120Hz). It has a cord so long its almost obscene, but it lets you move around a mixing console, room, etc. without worrying about pulling your plug.

However, the thing has fallen apart several times around the swivel joints. I have superglued them back together more than a dozen times. This breaking (snapping) is due to a lower-quality plastic. I delt with it. :)

One last gripe: I have no idea what Sony was thinking when they made the 1/4" adapter for this pair of headphones. It twists onto the 1/8" (normal) plug. This design means that you can use the adapter with *only* this style of headphones. (You can still use the headphones with any other adapter.)

Go find a pair at BestBuy and listen to them; they sell themselves. I would quickly buy a second pair regardless of the problems above.

"If you like bass, this is the headphone for you." on by HunterKiller

Pros: Exceptional bass, confortable, lightweight, reasonably priced.

Cons: Heard about fragility around pivot points, does look and feel quite weak.

Summary: I've read alot of reviews on this pair of headphones and was unsure about buying them. After going to a local Sony Styles store and trying them on, (while returning a pair of disappointing clip-ons)i was very impressed. The bass is just awesome. The trebles are clear though if you listen carefully with some songs, it is noticable that they are just slightly muffled, not as crisp as some other headphones (that would definitly not support such great bass), so it's a bit of a trade off.
Do not listen to some comments about the sounds being totally muffled, they are not. All there is, is lots of extra bass. If you love lots of bass, this is the headphone for you. I listen to rock music mostly so these are perfect for me.

As for the physical design, i have heard alot about it breaking easyily around the pivot points, i'm not certain exactly where, i can spot two areas where this might possibly occur. I am taking extra care with them ofcourse, though i do think that people who have had theirs broken just don't take very much care at all with their headphones, because there are reviewers who have said to have had these headphones for long periods without problem.

    "Great Sound but..." on

Pros: It has an amazing soun quality, excellent bass performance, if youre looking for great sound, this is it.

Cons: VERY unconfortable after a while, have to take it out and rest my ears for some time if I use them for over an hour.

"Great Bass, Possibly Fragile" on by cl8390

Pros: Extremely great sound, the bass actually bumps and the high frequencies are crisp.

Cons: I hear that these headphones break easily around the pivot...

Summary: I've had these for over a year, and mine are still fine. I've brought them to school in my backpack, thrown my bag around, and they still sound and feel great. These were a gift for me, but I would say that the price one pays is very reasonable. My friend has these headphones, and his broke at the pivotal join in the right ear. He patched it up with some duct tape, and although a little ghetto, it works great still. I love and suggest these headphones, especially if you're the type of listener who demands a huge subwoofer with all audio systems.

    "Totally Disappointed" on by uvaradhye

Pros: Good Bass, Looks, Long cord, Gold Plated adapter

Cons: Only Bass, No clarity, No balance, Constrained Sound

Summary: These headphones have nothing but boomy bass. Highly imbalanced sound. I am sort of an audiophile, but when i bought a $35 headphones, i did not expect the moon and the stars. Sad to say i was let down. the basic headphones that came with my discman sound clearer than these.

Tried them out with my Dell Laptop, Sony Discman and Harman Kardon amp. Bad performance in every case. Allowed 20 hours of break in, still only slight difference. They sound as if the music is lost somewhere deep within and all you hear are muffled thuds. Sound is constrained and distant. This is not at all expected from a respected brand like Sony. I would give a total thumbs down to this product.

If all you want to hear is boom and dont care about clarity or balance in sound then maybe this is for you, else stay away. I am returning mine.
