"I never give 10's -- because if something better ever does come along, then what the hell do you do!" on by StudioDude
Pros: Best sounding headphones out of the 20+ pairs I've owned.
Cons: They don't fold to store masslessly in subspace when I store them.
Summary: Having owned many pairs of phones, I purchased a pair of these in '90 when I saw that Consumer Reports check-rated them. The difference is astonishing. 15 years & a second set of easy-to-obtain earpads later - they still sound awesome!
I'm tired of hearing people blurb out that some other brand is better than these. So, don't take my word for the sound of these phones. Go to the best sound store around & compare this model with ANY OTHER PHONE at ANY PRICE. Fair enough? -

"Had them for 12+ years" on by HardSide
Pros: Excellent sound, comfortable
Cons: After so many years the rubber of the head phones comes off...also because of heat
Summary: Had them for more then 12/13 years. They are truely great. The sound is in no way enchanced, I hate these new headphones that come out and add extra bass or treble to songs. Annoying as sin. These headphones don't do that, they play the song/media exactly how the stereo is set or how the song is set. Perfect for quality.
Only problem I had after 8 years of using them I beleive, my basement got really hot and the rubber starting coming off...so i just ripped the whole rubber part away (was useless for me anyway) and all there is, is the rubber padding which everybody that comes over thinks thats how its suppose to be, so no big deal really.
However its been 12+ years and Im in the market for new headphones, why? No reason, I just figured new technology I guess, but apparently all these new headphones are going for 70-100 dollars. While the "SUPER NEW headphones" go for 220 dollars, which add bass/treble thats not needed. While these headphones are still in the market and still go for 50/60 dollars. Thats gotta say something. After so many years these headphones are still on the market (online especially) and still in the same price range as these "new" ones that have so many useless features in them.
If you want good, reliable head phones, get these, im telling you, 12 damn years and I still use them, and im probably not gonna change headphones even after so many years. As for the rubber part what I wrote as 'con', its probably my fault since I never took care of them when I was younger, plus the heat, and me constantly moving from one house to the other, im suprised these didnt break at this point. Good job sony, great headphones. -

"A classic" on
Pros: I have owned these headphones for over 10 years. They have a clean, balanced sound, comfortable feel, and exceptional price for the quality.
Cons: Ear pads tend to wear out sooner than I would like, but Sony has replaced them for very little when requested.
