"excellent sound with cool styling"4.5 starson by yodaddy99
Pros: way better than standard ipod phones, comfortable, cool case, high quality materials
Cons: square headband shape, seems fragile to adjust, expensive
Summary: I bought these at Sam Ash after seeing Cnet and Popular Science give the high praise.
Sam Ash let me try them before I bought them. I tried them with my 30 meg iPod.
I had been listening to my iPod with some good quality Sony clip ons. These sound better than virtually any headphone I have heard. I am a musician and really listen carefully to sound and sound quality. I typically use in ear monitors when I am on stage. IEMs sound great but I don't like having something in my ear. If you don't mind having something in your ear, you may be better served by some Shure's or other high quality in ear phones. Back to these phones... I really was amazed by the sound, full, balanced with more presence than standard headphones. The materials are high quality and they are beautifully made. They seem flimsy at first glance, and have very specific instructions on how to fold and adjust the phones. They even have a huge pink sticker that covers one ear giving you instructions. Unfortunately, you have to fold them back to the factory setting everytime you put them in the case.
According to their website, the nice metal case is designed to hold your iPod and the headphones. The cord is thin and seems like it could break easily. My Sony clip ons have a metal sheathing on the cord it seems much stronger. I was concened about breaking them; si I bought an extended warranty for 15 bucks at Sam Ash.
Ultrasone does not inlcude an adapter to go to quarter inch. That seems chinzy, especially for a 130 dollar headphone. They are extremely comfortable but the square headband looks like orthodontic head gear. It takes some getting used to. Good news is that they sound amazing.
If want great sound quality and can get used to the square headband look, these headphones are pretty amazing. They sound as good as headphones can. I have a high end audio system and the ICans sound almost as good as speaker driven sound. I would recommend getting a warranty just in case.
Still take the time to put them on and to listen to them if you want to be sure.
