"Never read so many conflicting reports..."3.5 starson by stevo718
Pros: cord length, great packaging, looks amazing, rich full bass, great sound stage
Cons: vocals could be clearer/louder, should come w/different material ear pads
Summary: Okay so before I bought these headphones I spent a few hours reading up on them and after I bought them I must admit I was a little dissapointed... don't get me wrong these headphones are great but I'll tell you why later.
First off they are probably the best earphones I have ever seen and the cord length is the perfect size and thickness IMO, and they provide you with plenty of spare earpads.
I have never owned a pair of good earbuds the Ipod earbuds I used with my Ipod just suck so I coudln't wait to upgrade them. Now the best headphones I own are Grado SR-60's so I guess it might have spoiled my ears because the lack of clarity/volume in the highs, especially the vocals really bothered me.
This is really the only complaint I have of the V-Moda's. I have been listening to them for about 2 months now and am sure they are broken in and everything. Don't get me wrong the lows are superb, the bass is rich the soundstage is really good for in the ear headphones and they really do sound awesome EXCEPT for the highs.
I mean the vocals sound like the singer is kind of distant and not right next to me. With the Grado's I can hear the breaths and every little change in the singers voice. Even in Hip-Hop tracks I was bumping my head to the bass heavy tracks but I wanted to hear more clarity and loudness in the spitting and breathing of the lyrics. Now I know earbuds can't sound exactly like headphones but I think this is where the V-Moda's need an improvement.
Raising the treble on the EQ helps a bit and a funny thing... if you insert the earbuds just enough so that they are borderline hanging in/out of your ear the vocals do get a bit clearer/louder but the bass decreases and you lose the richness.
I never realized positioning and earbud material/thickness could effect sound so much... perhaps if the metal opening of the earbud was closer or even the same length of the earbud rubber pad maybe the highs could be better? LOL... now I'm talking out of my *ss.
Did anyone else have the same experience? I think I need to go out and get a pair of Etymotic ER-6i now to really compare the 2.
So once again if the highs were clearer and stronger I'd give these earbuds a 9.Updated
I accidently gave it a 7... meant to give it an 8Updated
