Quick Take: When we reviewed Cardo's Allways Bluetooth headset earlier this year, we were only moderately pleased. Though battery life was admirable, call quality was a bit fuzzy, and the fit was uncomfortable. Fortunately, Cardo has made some improvements with its stylish and functional Scala 500. At just half the size of the Allways (0.58 ounce), the Scala 500 is easy to put on, and with no protruding earpiece, it's comfortable to wear. Likewise, the highly flexible ear loop can be worn on either ear, and the amply sized controls are tactile and easy to use. While you don't get changeable faceplates, the streamlined black form factor is attractive.

We tested the headset on the Nokia 7610. The overall performance was good for the 7610, but we encountered some static when using the K700i. We'd recommend testing the headset with your particular phone. It should be noted, however, that the Scala 500 requires a charging cradle that's, thankfully, small enough to take on the road. In-the-box accessories include a small belt clip, a neckband, and an eyeglass clip. Cardo promises nine hours of talk time and seven days of talk time; in our tests, we managed a respectable five days. For more Bluetooth headsets, check out our roundup.

This is one great bluetooth for the money.

Pros: Easy pairing, great clarity, no static/echoing. Very little backround noise. Good range. Multi function control is easy to use. Ear loop is bendable enough to adjust to fit your ear well. Eye/sunglass attachments. Great talk time before recharging.

Cons: It takes a little longer to connect when you turn it on than I'm used to, about 10 seconds. It is a little heavier than some other products.

Review: This bluetooth works great with my LG Vu. I've done a lot of research and I could not ask for a better product for my money. This is my second Cardo Scala. This one is even better than the first. It is easy to use. It has up to 9 hours of talk time before needing a charge and it really does last about that long. It was very easy to pair. It comes with a Sun/eye glass attachment which I don't use, I find the ear loop is comfortable even with my glasses. It also has a clip carrier and a neckband carrier for those of us who have a tendency to lose things. The multi function control is big and easy to use. The ear loop was a little large for my ear but it was bendable enough that I was able to contour it around my ear so it is comfortable. I didn't get any static until I was about 25 ft away from the phone and there were 2 walls in between. Also, once I stopped walking at 25 ft, the static stopped. I was able to go 30+ ft from the phone before it disconnected. The only negative is that it takes about 10 seconds to connect to my phone, not really too bad of a price to pay. There are much pricier units out there that don't exceed the performance of the Scala 500.

Good value and works with my treo 700p.

Pros: Good sound and battery life. Only $39 at Sams Club. Nothing fancy but it works.

Cons: No battery life indicator. Sometimes a little static.

Review: I must say that this headset does what they say it will do. It is not the best looking one, but it is comfortable. Sometimes it seems a little lose on my ear, but after a year of use it is still going strong.

Works great when it works

Pros: Good sound quality and battery life

Cons: Keeps dropping its connection; loses audio

Review: It frequently loses its connection to the phone and needs to go through the connection process again. Often, when I answer a call, the other party can't hear me and I have to call them back. I'd never buy this model again.

Light weight but not worth it

Pros: Light weight

Cons: disconnects from phone connection randomly

Review: This is an inexpensive model and worth what I paid for it. It just randomly un-pairs itself from the phone all day long. Look elsewhere for another brand and model.

great extras but I returned it

Pros: Loved the belt clip and lanyard, nice and lite, easy to use

Cons: static, no one could hear me

Review: This was my first bluetooth purchase, I got it to go with my Blackberry and I was initially really happy with it. My enthusiasm quickly turned to frustration as all my calls started with the recipient asking me to repeat myself and sometimes hello hello....click. The final straw was when I was talking to a friend on it and she said it sounded like I was getting applause in my car when I had my blinker on! As I needed this for work and to deal with customers I sadly took off my valued belt clip and returned it to for a Motorola H700 that works much better with my blackberry.

Works Great

Pros: Clear sound good volume

Cons: ear piece funky

Review: This little thing works great. It sounds much better than my old earpiece. I can actually hear this one walking outside and sometimes on the subway (depending on where we are). Some things are not as loud on my MQ, such as the Mp3s, each of which seem to have their own volume.

Great Bluetooth Headset for a Great Price

Pros: Low Cost, noise/wind reduction, simple pairing, easy to use, durability

Cons: Haven't found any yet

Review: Bought this for my Motorola A630 and worked great - even after a washing and drying cycle after being left in a jean pocket! Then I bought a Nokia 9300 and again no problem. Paired with a Samsung of a friend and worked, also tried with a Motorola Kazr and it was amazing with that phone! I guess the Kazr's the newest so the sound really was outstanding but it the phone is a friends so I haven't used it except breifly. I've had mine for about a year now (bought it with a MIR to net price at $10!!!) The only problem is the plastic cradle broke. But for $10 or even the $18 or so it sells for now, it's a bargain!

Nice design, fits comfortably, but the only problem is too much ambient noise

Pros: Comfortable fit, long battery life, connects easily with phone

Cons: I can hear fine on my end but I get complaints from everyone I talk to that there is too much ambient noise coming through the headset

Review: This has been an ok headset for me but too many complaints from the people I call.

Great with Samsung SCH-A950

Pros: Clarity and Sound. No echoing, easy buttons, easy pairing, comfy ear piece, fancy 2 LED light light setup.

Cons: The ear peice although comfy, attaches by friction thru a hole. Kinda cheap. The nois cancellation works good in small enviroments, but not so well in complex enviroments.

Review: I've also owned the WEP-200 by Samsung. The Samsung piece being so small that echoing occured for my callers as the mic would pick-up the earpiece. Not a problem with this one. Overall, I am very pleased with comfort and ease of use. The piece is not like one of those cheap fm radio style ear canal pieces, but one that has a very short funne

Decent product

Pros: Light weight. Easy to setup and use. battery life

Cons: Echo and wind noice cancellation is spotty

Review: I'm on the phone a lot for work and ended up having shoulder pain by crdling the phone between my head and shoulder. I was looking for a bluetooth setup. I got this Scala 500 on a sale with the mindset that if it does not work, I didn't lose much.

I'm delighted with the performance. I use it with my Motorola V3m and the pairing is perfect and all is great. The voice recognition feature on the phone had no trouble understanding what I said into the Scala 500.

However, I mainly use it with a non bluetooth phone, that has been enabled with the Jabra A210 adapter. The call quality and reliability are moderate. The phone does not recognize my voice commands from the headset and I cannot train the phone with a headset on (phone's issue)

When I'm outside, people complain about the wind noise picked up by the earpiece.

Overall, I'm glad I got this and would recommend it.

What a great headset for the Blackberry 7520.

Pros: no background noise whatsoever, compared to others

Cons: no cons, other than I paid to much for it at the nextel dealer

Review: Previously, I was using the Plantronics PLT 510D, a most excellent headset for the blackberry 7520. I didn't know I could acheive any better quality in a headset until I tried the Scala 500. WOW - truly this headset was designed for the Blackberry 7520. Whether it was or not, it seems like it, as quiet as the headset is. Volume is more than sufficient, the comfort of the earpiece is more than adequate. I highly recommend this headset to all who have the need for a bluetooth headset.

very good to awful

Pros: very comfortable

Cons: nearly everything else

Review: The Scala 500 was a very good headset when I first bought it. It suppressed wind noise very well, was easy to use, mated well with my razr v3, and had a good volume level for me ( I am a bit hard of hearing). As I have owned this unit for some time now, it has gotten progressively worse to the point where I practically hate the thing. It disconnects from my phone at any time (not predictable)and OFTEN, has gotten hard to hear, and people complain of really bad sound quality when I am speaking to them (fading in and out, breaking up, etc). I had a Jabra 250 prior to this Scala 500 and am seriously considering going back to Jabra. I would NOT recommend this unit.

SCALA 500 - A Good Choice

Pros: Light weight, comfort, excellent battery life & very good sound quality

Cons: None so far

Review: I bought this as a second headset for my new Treo 700P after using a Plantronics Voyager 510 for a week. The 510 had very good sound quality, but also had an annoying habit of losing the Bluetooth connection with the phone after a period of time (the phone being no more than 3-4 feet away). This has been noted by other 510 users. In addition, the "in the ear" extension of its earphone tended to become uncomfortable on long drives.

I found the Scala 500 locally and purchased it at the recommendation of the salesperson, backed by an in-store money back guarantee. My purchase price included the usual wall charger, on ear and glasses clips, a car charger and clip as well as a necklace clip. I was initially a bit hesitant to try a brand unknown to me, but have been pleasantly surprised. The Scala paired with the phone immediately and has not suffered the same disconnect issues that plagued the Plantronics unit. Callers have noted excellent voice quality without wind noise (problematic in my wired Jabra headset) and the voice quality at my end, while slightly less distinct than the 510, is still very good. I await a (free) silicone eartip from Cardo to see if this affects voice quality, but am pleased with the unit as it stands. The unit is very light, comfortable, and less obtrusive than many competitors, being fairly short and less gaudy than some others. The battery life has been excellent, both on standby and after a few days of active use. It holds position well on my ear and the lack of an in-ear tip does not seem to adversely affect either stability or (as far as one can tell) vocal quality.

Given the excellent prices on this unit (under $25 at a number of retailers), anyone looking for a "workhorse" bluetooth headset should consider the Scala 500.

Cardo Scala 500 w/ Treo 650

Pros: Light weight, good price

Cons: cheap construction, stuck in mute mode

Review: I purchased this in Sept of 2005 after reading reviews. Price was great and sound was good, could even use the unit 10 feet from the phone. After just a few months, the speaker broke completely off the unit. The manufacturer replaced my unit, but then I was only able to use the unit right up close to my phone in order for the calls to be clear. Shortly after receiving the new unit, it quit working. I can place calls and hear the other party, but they cannot hear me. The only thing I can use it for is checking my voice mail. I e-mailed the company and they told me to do a soft reset and to repeat the pairing process and I have done that many times with no response. The darned thing will not work and I am fed up with it!
Purchased the same unit for my husband right after purchasing mine and his has been fine. Go figure.

When I called BestBuy, they couldn't hear me!!! HA HA HA

Pros: Small, low key colours, sunglasses mount (Look at me, I'm Dog the Bounty Hunter!)

Cons: Lousy sound quality, really tight fit on the ear, no angling of device, not very loud, generic instructions

Review: This is the 2nd BlueTooth headset I've purchased in as many days. Didn't even bother trying out the glasses mount, the sound was all 'fuzzy' according to those I tried to talk to, or rather those I yelled to. Forget about using it in anything other than a calm day..I had the windows open in the car and no one could hear me, I might as well have stuck my head out the window on the highway. Bah! Yes, it does come with a car charger, but why do you need that if you've got so many talk hours and lord knows how many stand-by hours. Hmmm...makes you wonder. Nice idea, poor execution. I did like the rocker button on the back to control the volume, too bad there's only LOUD and q.u.i.e.t.

Save yer money, sonny!

CS 500 works great!

Pros: small, lightweight, comfortable on either ear, easy to pair, plenty of volume and good sound clarity.

Cons: Some sound distortion at times

Review: I bought this product to pair with my Motorola e815. The Scala paired easily and was a snap to setup and use. I could hear and be heard very well. I did experience some static when I wore my cell on my right side and used the Scala on my left ear. This problem was easily resolved by wearing the scala on my right ear. I have the volume set at mid level and can easily hear the other parties. I have not encountered any echo effects to date (one week). This is a great product at a great price. I think the secret to success with any bluetooth ear phone product is to be prepared to experiement a little. I also paired this products with a friends razr and it worked equally well. I highly recommend.
Updated
September 8, 2006 UPDATE. Now that I have used the Scala 500 for some time I have noticed some sound problems that were not eveident to me at first. Its not the incoming sound through the ear piece but the outgoing sound. Many of the people I talk to complain that it sounds tiny and hollow... kind of the way you sound when your talking on a speaker phone. I've also noticed that the scala does not have much distance range. The sound starts to breakup once I move as little as 4 feet from my phone. I would no longer rate this unit a 9...probably a 6 because of the outgoing sound and distortion.

Very good headset compared to others costing more

Pros: Good design, good voice quality, good volume, nice accessories

Cons: ear loop a little tight even when adjusted.

Review: I have a Samsung A920. I tried the Sony Ericsson HBH-608 and the expensive nXZen 5500 and I actually found this headset to be superior and better yet, it costs a lot less. The nXZen 5500 was suprisingly bad. It had a lot of static and echo. The Ericsson HBH-608 was pretty good. It irritated my ear and was not adjustable. The volume level is too low. I tested head to head the Sony and the Cardo and found the Cardo had better volume, better voice quality. I like the bigger answe button too. I also like the belt attachment and adjustable ear hook. It paired nicely with my Samsung. I would and am recommending this to my friends.

Best Bluetooth headset

Pros: Lightweight, One buton control

Cons: Nothing big to report

Review: Paired it with Cingular 8125 unit. Got paired like a charm. Unit didn't loose the pairing even after a reboot of the phone.

Very comfortable to wear, kind of odd for the first time. Too light totally forget about it after sometime.

Sound quality is good, able to crank the volume to a decent level.

Re-dial, call pickup, voice dialing worked as mentioned in the manual.

Charging is very quick. Could have been better if it has a battery life indicater.

Yes Scala 700 is coming soon too. Maybe someday I may switch to that. Until then this is a keeper.

Best I've ever owned! I LOVE everything about this except 2 things...

Pros: SMALL!, lightweight, good looks, GREAT sound quality, long lasting battery, comfortable, works in either ear

Cons: Have to hold button down on top for 8-10 seconds to turn it on; plugs on AC charger don't fold in

Review: 1. The fact that you have to hold down the little button on the top for a full 8-10 seconds to turn the darn thing on... this is inconvenient. Wouldn't 3-4 seconds have been long enough? You only have to hold the button down for about 3-4 seconds to turn it OFF! Engineers!

2. The little AC charger doesn't have fold-in plugs for the AC outlet like the better ones do.

I LOVE the small size that fit easily into your shirt pocket, sound quality, the looks, the ease of use, the holder that goes over your ear comfortably and can be switched to use in either ear, the little flashing blue light when it's on (although I have freaked myself out when walking down a dark hallway with it in my ear until I realized that's what I was seeing on the wall and the place is not haunted after all...), the disconnect button, and just about everything else though!

The only Bluetooth Headset to wear outdoors, it's rare to feel that you got more than you paid for.

Pros: Price, sound clarity, noise reduction, wind guard.

Cons: None to report yet.

Review: I've owned:
Jabra 250
Jabra 150
Jabra 350
Motorola HS820

These have all worked well for me in my car or indoors. None of them worked for me outside. As soon as I would step out of my car they would start to break up and I would not be able to maintain a conversation.

The closest to acceptable was the HS820 until I bought the scala 500. I can drive with the sunroof open and the windows down and still hold a conversation. I tested it on a very windy day outside and although my callers could hear the wind they could also hear me, which was not possible with any other headset. I was skeptical at first because the price was so low but it absolutely lived up to the reviews I read.

Over Rated

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Uncomfortable fit, terrible sound quality

Review: My first blue tooth headset and after my first call home to try it out, although the sound was reasonably loud, the quality was so bad, I had to ask my wife to keep repeating herself because I could not make out what she was saying. Terrible hollow tin sounding. Dropped two calls in as many days. It is very loose fitting and feels as if it will fall off easily. An uncushioned protruding speaker sits against the ear opening and can become uncomfortable after awhile. It looks and feels cheap. Callers I spoke to seemed to hear me just fine and claimed the call quality was decent. After the second day, I thought, maybe I'm expecting to much from a small speaker... Day 6, I've returned it and purchased a Plantronics Voyager 510 for $30.00 more. First call and WOW, what a difference... loud and crystal clear. So far so good. I'll review it after a decent trial period.
Whatever you do, make sure you can return it if you don't like it.

Cons: sound a little hollow , light is bright,ay night.

They mostly the same except the 500 I had sometimes had static for no reason,When I used the moto units with my moto 710 the phone would heat upand battery life on the phone was shortened alot, the sound was poor for those I WAS talking to (the incoming sound was better than CARDO) But for me I can hear and undersrand so that is ok if the people i thalk to have good experince to. I have loud diesel truck some say sounds like water running.voice dial works better than with handset. It is light and fits my ear well. Doesn't partner easy with Samsung t809

Pros: Great fit, sound was clear incoming/outgoing

Cons: Stated above

Review: I was in the market for a BT headset that would work great while in the car. Because of all the road noise, wind noise (sometimes, since it's pretty cold right now and I keep the windows up), and music in the background I thought a headset with some type of noise reduction would be ideal. I've tried the Logitech Mobile Freedom and Traveller but returned them due to fit. This leads me to the Cardo Scala 500. This item was purchased at Compusa for $49.99 and came with all the usual plus a free car charger. The first thing I did was put the thing on to see how it fit. Fit was great! It didn't feel like it was squeezing my ear and the earphone just floats above the ear canal. After charging and pairing, which was a snap, I did a few test calls. Tests sounded great on both ends. The only problem I had was when I turned it off and turned it back on it would go back into pairing mode. I would then have to press the circle to put it in standby, hop on my phone (Samsung t809), get into the bluetooth settings and connect the device manually. This only takes about 15 - 20 seconds but it does get old after a while, especially when i'm in and out of the car all day. If it weren't for this, which I understand is probably phone dependent, I would give the Cardo Scala a perfect 10.

Nice accessories, Nice fit, Snap Crackle Pop Noises

Pros: Nice accessories, Nice fit,

Cons: Snap Crackle Pop Noises

Review: I really liked this unit, it actually looks quite good with it's big round circle. I was surprised by that. The LED lights are nice a bright.

There is no "wind noise reduction technology" this is just excited marketers basically lying to you about a few slots that some designers had the machinists make in the die. It does not reduce noise when outside. Also there is a lot of static, and it is very distracting. It seemed that when the battery got low, the static sounds would increase.

I ended up returning this.

On the positive side, it comes with a car charger, a belt clip, a regular home charger, a eye glasses clip and a lanyard. If you like goodies, get this, you might have better luck, maybe I just got a bad unit.

Good headset, but not perfect for me

Pros: Loud volume, lightweight

Cons: Iffy range, clipped audio, odd fit

Review: I really wanted to like my Cardo Scala headset. I own a Treo 650 and their notorious for being difficult to use with Bluetooth headsets. Unlike others I tried (Moto H500, Moto HS820) the inbound volume is plenty loud, sometimes too loud. The headset protrudes into your outer ear slightly, but if it's not lined up properly it just causes irritation. Finally, callers complained that often my audio sounded clipped and over processed. So, after a week I returned it and bought a Logiteh Mobile Traveler...which I love.

Bad product - don't copy my mistake

Pros: lightweight, ok reception indoors, easy to mate with phone

Cons: Cheapo consttruction, uncomfortable, doesn't work outdoors

Review: Don't copy my mistake!

I did a LOT of research before buying this product. Read all the reviews here and on cellphone forums and truly believed this was the best choice. NOT!!

The construction is cheap - the plastic piece that covers the speaker snapped off mine without any stress. Not to worry - it is actually more comfortable without it though the comfort is pretty bad as you can't hear anything if you place the loop exactly as intended. In fact, I couldn't hear a thing outdoors even after cranking my volume to the max. The "multifunction" switch is idiotic and difficult to use. The reception starts to fail if you move more than 2 feet from the phone. I have an A900 so I know it's not the phone. The only plus is that it was easy to mate with the phone so you can be up and running in seconds.

In sum, I just wasted $36 buying this on ebay (new in box). So if for some reason you disregard my advice be sure to pay a little more from a retailer that will take returns.

Excellent headset, especially in this price range

Pros: Superior sound quality, in + out, lightweight, comfortable, easy to use, good feedbacks, solid connections

Cons: Slightly fragile earloop

Review: Excellent all-around headset. Great sound quality, in + out. Very little clicks and echos inbound, none whatsoever outbound. Excellent connection, very good range (managed 50 feet!). Easy to use large call button. I love the use of the volume wheel to turn on/off - avoids accidental activation when in pocket. Be careful of earloop, not as flexible as manual implies. I broke mine on the first day, but had it replaced for free. Protects well against wind noise, but not as much as I expected. This headset is much better than a lot of other, more expensive small-form headsets. Highly recommended.

Cons: Poor reception, broken after 4 months

More than I expected!

Pros: Love the ease of use, the light secure fit, and clarity.

Cons: None that I can find.

Review: This is an excellent value, you get a lot more performance from this earpiece than other headsets $100 and up. I have tried several of the Motorola earpieces and they are either too uncomfortable, too heavy, or the sound is too low. No one that I call can tell that I am speaking to them from a headset. In fact I have had comments that I sound better on the earpiece than I do on the phone. This earpiece is so light, I forget I have it on.

I am getting about 6 hours or so of talk time per charge and with that much talking I have to charge it every 3 days.

I love the style of it as well. It looks cool, it isn't sticking out too far, and I can hide it under my hair while I am working and the boss can't see it!

If you're not getting it for free don't buy it

Pros: inexspensive, long battery life, comes with a lot of accessories

Cons: terrible reception, fades easily, button doesn't always work, poor quality, etc..

Review: Pros: The device is rather inexspensive, the battery life lasts very long. Guaranteed it will outlast the talk time on your phone. Standby time is very good as well.

It comes with many accessories including: Charger, case, eye glass holder, neck carry string, and software.

Cons: Reception is terrible. Unless you are in a room with NO interference this device is useless. In a location with interference you'd have to hold the phone 1 inch away from the headset which defeats the purpose of having a bluetooth headset in the first place.

This unit fades very quickly. Simply by pressing the talk/end button. It was very poorly painted. The button also doesn't always work. At time you may have to press it numerous times to answer a call.

Quality of sound is bad as well. Users often sound very distorted.

Bottom line. Spend more money on a better quality unit. In this case you get what you pay for.

Good solid BT Headset

Pros: ease of use, ear fit, volume range, clarity, wind noise protection

Cons: callers voice echos is headset/phone volume more than 60%

Review: I like many on this site, have tried multiple BT Headsets in search of the best on for me. I have a BB 7250 mobile device and have had a hard time finding a good BT headset for it.

I recently picked this up and overall it does a good job. Very comfortable on my ear, very light. Good quality in fit and finish. Charges fine and battery life seems ok so far (still testing this).

Sound quality is very good. Speaker loudness is great and the sound clarity of my voice when talking is outstanding. It is very sensitive and will pick up background noise like other conversations.

I tested this unit in a windy enviroment recently and the wind dampening is outstanding. I tried another BT headset I have from a different manufacturer in this exact same environment and could barely make out any words. With the Scala 500, EVERY word is heard.

Very easy to pair, only took a few seconds and stays paired.

Downside, I have had a major problem trying to find a BT Headset that does not echo. My voice does not echo when I am talking, it is the callers voice that echos and they can hear themselves. On this headset, that happens when I have the volume up over 60%.

Now, 60% volume is ok for me in a quiet setting, but in the car or a busy location, I will have to see. It may not be loud enough for me in those enviroments. I have ordered the optional silicon gel ear bud (free from their website, just pay for mail costs outside of U.S.) which is supposed to help focus the sound even more, thereby not needing to turn the volume up high.

If this does not solve the echoing problem, then I may return it to the store where I bought it from.

Lastly, on answering a call via the headset, the delay is only 2-3 seconds. About mid-range to others that I have tried. Not too bad and usable.

Overall, this is a good BT Headset and I would recommend it. But take my advise, make sure you can return it if necessary. Try it with your individual phone first to see how it works.

You get what you pay for

Pros: Inexpensive, good volume

Cons: Terrible battery, cheap construction, awful quality

Review: I usually never write bad reviews for items, but my experience was terrible with this headset. After I initally bought it, I returned it due to the unit not being able to charge. Even after the first replacement, the charge light would go off 10 seconds after the unit was placed on the cradle. The cradle is very annoying because you have to charge the unit on top of the cradle which puts it out of use. The construction of the unit is cheap at best and the finish was coming off my unit after 1 week of use. The Battery lasted me for about 45 minutes of use then powered off. Also, if the phone was more than 3 feet away from the headset, it would lose the call making this headset useless. I was extremely unhappy and finally returned it and went with the motorola.

recent purchase of scala500 wireless headset

Pros: light weight, sound adequate, ease of use

Cons: unit gets extremely hot while on charger, very concerned. had to remove

Review: so far the unit is performing, but when I charge it, I'm a little concerned with the temperature of the unit while it is being charged. I had to unplug it, since it kept getting hotter. I could not wear it, until it cooled down. I contacted the manufacturer to see if this is an isolated incident and what steps will be taken.

Received unit dead. Thought it needed to be charged, but when charging unit, it got extremely hot to the touch. Had to unplug. The ear piece kept falling off. Returned it for a refund and purchased the Plantronics 640.

Not Good with the Treo 650

Pros: Great accessories and packaging - nice design

Cons: Major Static with the Treo 650

Review: I was very excited when I received the unit. It came with two cool carrying accessories, one to where around your neck and one to clip on your belt buckle (however, the belt clip for the headset is too small - I don't know how it fits on anyone's belt). Bottom line: I heard major static unless the unit was right next to my Treo 650. If it was not within a couple inches I heard major static. I called the company and they told me they've been having problems with the Treo 650. They told me to return it and they would test it with their Treo 650 model. I just got the unit back yesterday. The static seemed to be gone but by the end of the day I had a very difficult time hearing the person on the other end. I never had complaints from people on the other line but I just kept pushing the up volume trying to hear them. I also fully charged the unit so it was not a battery issue. I would not recommend this product for the Treo 650. I don't know what to get now?

Very Poor Quality Bluetooth Headset.

Pros: Small size, long battery life, easy and self explanatory to initially connect and use.

Cons: Too much static when in use.Flimsy and cheap construction."Wind-guard" technology is nothing more than words printed on the box.

Review: I had only used this headset for a week and a half with my Samsung D500 phone when I finally became fed up with it. It is my 1st bluetooth headset so I don't know what to compare it to, but it was just terrible. Bluetooth is suppose to have a range of 30 feet but the range on this headset seemed more like 2 feet. At a range of about 2 feet, it worked just fine. But beyond that range, I start to hear static to the point where I can't even understand what the other person is saying. I would have the headset hooked onto my right ear and the phone in my left pocket, and all I would get is static mixed in with words here and there. If I placed the phone in my right pocket while the Bluetooth was on my right ear, transmission was just slightly better but not much.Eventually, I would get fed up and just take the phone out of my pant pocket and hold it in my hand next to my chest, but what is the point of a bluetooth headset if you have to do that?I could just as easily do that with my wired headset.Another bad aspect is the cheap construction.A week into using the headset, the earpiece started becoming loose. I eventually had to super glue it so that it stayed attached, but I'm through with using this headset. And forget about the "wind-guard" technology. It doesn't work according to the people who I talk to.Overall, a piece of junk that lasted a week and a half for me.And it's quite pricey as well for what you get.You can get it online for about $40 with shipping, but outside it's between $65-$80 after bargaining.Simply worthless.

Dual Personality (Love/Hate relationship)

Pros: design, ease of use, battery time, good sound on my end

Cons: clicks, poor sound quality for callers

Review: I purchased the Cardo Scala-500 with high hopes. I'm a Loan Officer, full-time student and drive a convertible. I really needed this considering I'm originally from the New York area and speaking with both hands is a requirement. This is my 1st venture into Bluetooth headsets, so I may have been over optimistic. So off I went new phone (LG VX8100), new headset.. Very easy to setup and learn the functions. Way cool and very comfortable. I forget that I even have it on. WOW, I can even hear my messages with the top down.

That's the sugar...Now the medicine...

People I talk to find it hard to hear. Some think they hear clicking and music (?)(Maybe its just the music in their head :}) but overall the response is "get off the f* thing and pickup the phone!ĀØ

Great Headset

Pros: Very lightweight, affordable, good microphone

Cons: Blinking blue light, sound quality is a bit muffled

Review: This is a great headset for the money. For only $35 you can't go wrong. The main drawback is the silly blue LED which blinks constantly and can't be turned off. Otherwise, it's great and I'd recommend it.

Excellent BT headset

Pros: Loud, clear on both ends - Voice command near perfect

Cons: Have to reconnect to phone, where as others are automatic

Review: Tried several other headsets. This is extremely clear (both ends), very confitable to wear and almost perfect on voice command. Have used it 5 days now without recharging it. Had problems with voice command after a couple of days with others. Sorry I didn't get this one 1st instead of wasting my time and money. Only drawback is having to re-connect (LG 8100) where as others did it automatically. But a simple tap on the MFB does this.

Excellent value

Pros: good sound quality, nice design, painless pairing

Cons: Low ringer volume for incoming calls

Review: I am using the Cardo Scala 500 with my Motorola V710 and it works like a charm. The intial setup(pairing) took about 2 minutes. The sound quality is excellent even in the car with the window down going 70 MPH!! The fit is comfortable and the buttons are easy to use. My only complaint is when a call comes in the ringer volume in the earpiece is not that loud. Other than that excellent buy for $40.00.

$39.99 on EBAY with Shipping

Pros: Nice look, Comfortable,Idiot proof controls,Childs Play to setup

Cons: Weak signal,Earpece controls to close together

Review: I purchased this on EBAY for $39.99 with shipping as Cingular wanted almost $70.I received it yesterday and charged it for 4 hours. It booted right up.Pairing with my Motorola V551 was simple, quick and easy. Now for the negatives and there are not many.the first is signal strength.I lost the signal when 10ft from my phone.Okay,I guess Bluetooth designers assumed you would have the phone in line of sight.Mine was behind 1 wall.Next, I called my sister in Atlanta this morning and when I got out of the car, the signal started getting scratchy so I switched the phone to the same side as the unit in my ear and received an excellent signal.Strange thing though, when I got into the elevator, I still had 4 cells on my phone, but could not hear the call. Not sure what that means. The only other thing that really bothers me is that the button are so close together.I have disconnected calls in the last 24hours when I really wanted to conference.I guess it just takes time to get used to the feel of the buttons.
All in all, its a decent unit and you can't beat the price.Bluetooth is still new technology.Give them another 5yrs to perfect it.Good value for a must have toy(lol)!

It's Ok, But could be better

Pros: It's light and small, Voice clarity

Cons: Static when outside, Low Volume

Review: It's my first bluetooth headset so I expected more from this headset.

While it easily communicates with my Nokia 6620, and sounds very good during phone calls and mp3s in short distances, the headset has a noticeable static when I go outside a building and the phone is in my pocket. I don't know if this is how other bluetooth headsets are but I have 900mhz wireless headsets at home and I could be 300 ft away without any problems. I do know that 30 ft is the limit with bluetooth but my phone is like 1-2 feet from my ear when I get the static. When the phone is outside of my pocket and I'm outside, the reception does improve so it could also be a combination of the area I'm in, the headset and the phone. Overall, I'm satisfied but would like to see an improvement.

I sent back the Scala 500 to eCost.com and traded up to the Tekkeon EzTalker Mini for a few bucks more. The Tekkeon EM is an OUTSTANDING bluetooth headset. It does everything the Scala 500 doesn't. I can easily go 40 ft. away from my Nokia 6620 with it in my briefcase and still use the bluetooth headset perfectly. Cardo has alot of work to catch up to the Tekkeon EzTalker Mini.

I sent back the Scala 500 to eCost.com (which by the way were awesome to work with) and picked up the Tekkeon EzTalker Mini and I have to tell you, there is no comparison. The Tekkeon does everything right. If I could update my rating, I would give the Scala 500 a "5" in comparison to the Tekkeon. If you are in the market for a bluetooth headset and especially if you have the Nokia 6620 as I do, go and get the Tekkeon EzTalker Mini. It is an outstanding product.

The voice and sound clarity, range and easy of use of the Tekkeon EzTalker Mini puts the Scala 500 to shame. I have absolutely no issues with the EzTalker Mini. It's just a fantastic product.

What's not to like.

Pros: perfect fit over ear. sound quality is awesome, can go pretty far from phone, the wind/m
oice cancellation sounds better to listeners than directly from my SE T637, Holds a very long charge.

Cons: Could connect to charger more firmly

Review: I think this item is a must have for anyone that uses a cell and wants thier hands free.

Excellent voice quality even at 70 mph!

Pros: Easy to set up, easy to use, great battery life.

Cons: Delay on incoming calls specifially with the Treo 650 and doesn't want to stay snug on the ear.

Review: On a side by side comparison with the Plantronics M2500 the Cardo Scala 500; the Cardo had better sound quality to hear, more comfortable for extended use. Road noise was similar on both headsets at 70 mph. Callers said that the Cardo had more natural voice tone & quality than the Plantronics. It was definately easier to set up. The Cardo's initial delay was lessen by the 1.12 Treo upgrade. Plantronics delay was slightly less on incoming and outgoing calls.

Scala 500 Works Great!

Pros: Great Sound, Reception & Distance.

Cons: Ctrl transfer feature doesn't work with SE t616

Review: My first opinion of the Scala 500 was wow... it works great, but I wanted to use it for a month before I wrote a review.
The volume is loud, and clear for both parties. The distance is great, I often forget that I have the headset on and walk into the next room; needless to say the signal will break up around 25ft around the walls. The ear piece (speaker) sits on and in your ear, it's not a ear canal fit. I can hear better with the headset than with my phone when I'm driving in my convertible on the freeway. The "Ctrl button" transfer feature doesn't work with my Sony Ericsson T616, I have to turn the headset off to transfer a call back to the phone. Within the month I've used this headset, it lost connection only a few times, but a quick on/off recycle fixed the problem and re-connected bluetooth.

Overall the headset is worth the money and I would recommend it to anyone. I will definitely buy this one again if I lose it. Buy the way, be very careful with the belt clip headset case, the headset can be easily ejected and lost.

Not good with the treo 650

Pros: light, good pairing

Cons: too loose on the ear, crackling, poor range, echoing on receiving side

Review: this is my second headset that i've tried for my treo 650, and the cardo scala is not very good. i first tried the jabra 250, and that was awful. I read a lot of good reviews for the scala 500, so i tried it....very disappointed.
it had a lot of crackling on my side, and there was a lot of echoing on the other side.
the fit was very uncomfortable for me. when i turned my head quickly (such as checking blind spot for driving) the headset would come loose and nearly falling off. i'm returning it for another headset.

Nice Headset, superior to Motorola 810

Pros: Comfortable, callers hear me loud and clear

Cons: Range seems lacking

Review: I hate finding a new headset but when my new phone came with blue tooth that is exactly what I had to do. I've tried two so far, the Motorola HS810 and this Cardo Scala 500. Between the two, the Cardo is the better headset. This review is on the Scala 500 as it directly compares to the Motorola 810 I tried.

I wanted so much to like the Motorola HS810 but no matter how much I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt, but the Scala 500 is the better headset overall (and this assessment doesn't factor in price).

Comfort - The Scala 500 really feels good on my ear. Maybe it is my ear size but it sits snug even when I shake my head back and forth quickly. In conparison, while the Motorola 810 is also comfortable, when I shake my head I feel the ear piece more. What is more annoying is that I hear the plastic up and down volume buttons rattle.

What the other person hears - After Several days of test calls between friends and family, every single person thought the Scala 500 sounded better. When asked to rank the difference on a scale of 1 to 10 volume and clarity, the average response was Scala 500 8 or 9, Motorola 810 6 or 7. Most people said the Motorola seemed clear, but that they felt they had a harder time hearing my voice.

What I heard - This is one area I felt the Motorola had the slight edge. To my ears, the Motorola sounded clear and sufficiently loud. The Scala 500 was not quite as clear. Manually, I was able to increase the Scala 500's volume higher than I could the Motorola 810's, but at the highest volume the Scala 500 produced a slight hiss (but definitely bearable - I won't need to set the volume that high unless I'm in a noisy environment, and if that is the case, I believe I would no longer hear the hiss anyway).

Distance - The Motorola definitely seemed to allow me to walk farther away (20 feet or so) from the phone with no negative effects on my end. However, more often than not the caller at the other end said I sounded "underwater." With the Scala 500 the opposite occurred. When I walked away from the phone the other parties voice started to pick up static. However, at their end there was no complaints about my voice. Also, the Scals 500's range definitely could be better. I would at time get 10 feet from the phone and pick up slight static. I'm not sure this will matter if the phone just sits in my pocket or in the car seat next to me, but I'm sure at some point I will wish I could more a little farther from the phone.

Pairing was easy with both. I can't comment on battery time since I have kept them charged (I'm used to putting my phone on the charger every night).

Overall - The benefits of the Scala outweigh it negatives especially compared to the Motorola 810. While I liked the fact that the person talking to me sounded clearer on the Motorola, it seemed 100% certain that all those whom I talked to said I sounded clearer on the Scala 500. This is more important to me since my Wife was actually getting frustrated because I sounded at times "underwater" with the Motorola.

If the price were equal I still couldn't see buying the Motorola 810 over the Scala 500 (even though I love the look of the unit). But at half the price, the decision is simple, if you care about how you sound to those listening to you the Scala 500 is a better choice than the Motorola 810. I think I will still try a few other headsets, but for now, the Scala 500 is a very adequate headset.

After trying the Jabra 250 and the Motorola 850 I like and use this product. It works!!!!

Pros: I can hear and people can hear me with little or no static.

Cons: Delay in detection, but this my be related to my Treo 650.

Review: I've tried the Jabra 250 and Motorola 850 and went back to using the cable after many complaints from my clients. I was ready to give up on using a bluetooth headset with my Treo 650.

I decided to try the Cardo_Scala 500, since I knew the salesperson. The CardoScala is a great headset that works better than my cabled headset and I can really move around without static. I sometime forget that it's wireless and go out of range. This unit also works well outside on a windy day. I'm returning my Motorala 850!!!

I have a problem with the time it takes to pickup, but I believe it's also related to my Treo 650 and will investigate this on the Treo 650 forum.

So Far So Good!

Pros: Small, lightweight, easy to use, good design, good response time, good sound quality on both ends.

Cons: A little crackling here or there, mostly when my phone's reception bars are in the 1 to 2 bar range. Ear gets a little sore after a while, but I get that with any ear piece I use.

Review: I belong to Sprintusers.com, and bought the Cardo Scala 500 based on the recommendation of a user string, indicating that none of the higher priced units, including the Motorolas, offered the same level of performance, and that the battery life and user/listener sound quality on the CS500 is actually superior to any of the other units the tried.

I had bought the Jabra Freespeak previously, and was not pleased with battery life at all, as well as some other disappointments. I figured I'd wait a while to go back to using a BT headset and I have been pretty pleased. Definitely enough to keep it and not shop around and play with a bunch more units. Thanks to those that did the research for me!

It does the job

Pros: Its not fancy, but it works.

Cons: It pulls up the volume display everytime you push a button on the handset. Very disruptive.

Review: If you're in the market for a wireless bluetooth headset, then the Scala-500 is worth checking out. It connects very quickly with my *NEW* Nokia 6266i. Sound quality is ok, except when you move the phone around. The static is unbareable sometimes. It feels comfortable enough and battery life is decent for my use.

Excellent Bargain!!

Pros: Very good dynamic range in voice; Very good battery life: Lightweight; Excellent Mic

Cons: Belt clip too small: use the included neckband to ensure that you don't lose the headset since it is so light!!

Review: Have had it for only a couple of days but very impressed by the quality of construction, ease of use and sound quality. Battery life is very good and the price is a steal. Only drawback is that battery is not user replaceable but for the price of the unit you could probably buy a new one for the cost of sending it in for battery replacement.
One thing to be aware of that is a bit surprising for a headset.....The microphone on the unit is SO sensitive that it picks up road noise from your vehicle and nearby conversations if you are close to someone. Everyone that I have talked to, says that other than that, they would NOT know that I was on a headset. The sound is THAT clear!
Also the voices that you hear from the headset don't sound tinny or compressed as with some headsets. Overall, I think this is a excellent choice and a great bargain.

Comfortable and great in noisy environments

Pros: Battery life, comfort, appearance, and price

Cons: An extra ear clip would have been nice.

Review: I did a fair amount of research on the web. I really needed a BT headset that works well in windy and/or noisy conditions. The Scala 500 is exactly what I needed. The price is outstanding. I recorded phone conversations in a variety of settings on my answering machine. My voice was very clear even with the sunroof open and the radio going while driving 70 mph. The Scala is also very comfortable and can be worn for several hours. It is perfect for somone who drives a convertible or likes the sunroof open. The voice dialing via my Motorola V551 is almost perfect. I don't have any trouble getting the Scala to pair with the V551. The volume is good. The battery life is exceptional. At $40 dollars it is an excellent solution for those needing a wireless headset.

Light and clear for the Motorola v551

Pros: Good clarity, great price, easy to use

Cons: The ringtone, and lack of range from phone

Review: First, a quick thank you to those of you who posted on this site before m,e and also have a v551, your opinions helped make the decision to get this earpiece.
Also, I bought mine at Amazon for just under $40.
As I said above, I'm really surprised by the clarity. It synced easily to my phone, and the buttons are easy to use. It fits comfortably on my ear - feels like I have a pen behind my ear, but otherwise i don't notice it.
Its been great in my car, and the voice commands have worked great to. I like the one tap initiate/end option. Very easy to keep my eyes focused on driving.
My two complaints: one is just my laziness. I'm talking to someone at home, I start walking around - walk to the kitchen to get something to drink, I go into the living room, then static hits, and I suddenly realize I left the phone two rooms back. Its range is maybe fifteen feet.
The ringtones - it overides any personal ringtones and replaces it with it's own, so that's a little sad as ringtones have become personal options.

Pros: It synchs up quick and easy. It has good battery life. It is easily adjustable and fits comfortably. With the exception of the initial setup, it has always synched with the Treo.

Cons: Annoying flashing light. It has poor sound quality (static) on both ends. The volume control doesn't work very well. Poor range.

Review: It seems to be a decent unit, but it just doesn't work very well with the Treo 650. (I would like to find one that does.) I hope it works better with other phones. It was comfortable and it has the last-number-dial feature, that actually worked. The biggest problems for me are the poor sound quality and short range.

Review: For the price its best headset in market. I tried other Mot HS8210. It had some echo and more expensive unit.
Works great in close range.

Background static and crackling noticeable

Pros: light, connects easily with Treo650

Cons: Lots of static and crackling

Review: Although the Scala 500 paired flawlessly with my Treo 650, the sound qaulity was lacking. Cardo even replaced my first unit with a new one stating that the problem was an issue with the Treo 650 and that a new unit may solve the issue.

I always had hissing in the background and if more than 6feet away from the phone there was a lot of crackling. Others rave about this unit but after trying 2, I decided either it is aproblem with the treo 650 or just not a good headset.

On the plus side it did connect quickly but the sound quality was very poor. I often had to repeat myself during coversations and ask other to repeat themselves.

OK, but with control issues - e-mail support nonexsistant.

Pros: Good signal quality

Cons: ALWAYS plays silly music for several seconds after a call is answered, that both parties have to sit and wait through before a conversation can begin.

Review: While the reception is remarkably good, its reasonably comfortable, and the charger is good, there are major issues with control. With a blackberry 7520, on the first call of the day, you will have to wait thirty seconds into the call before you can get the volume mute to come up, even from the control on the phone. ALSO--- anytime a call is answered both parties must sit and listen to a video game version of "My Country 'Tis of Thee" for about seven or eight seconds after the call is answered and then one or two seconds after that for the volume to reset and allow for conversation. I've tried for hours to get this reset, with no luck. They don't seem to respond to customer e-mails at their listed support address on the web site. The booklet that came with it said that the web site would have specific instructions for particular phone models. Good luck! Thaey don't exsist.

Good voice quality, but not so comfortable works ok with v551

Pros: Good voice quality. Long talk hours. Good price. Very easy to pair with my Moto v551.

Cons: My best complain is that it's not fit. I can't make it suggle into my ear. The speaker seems too big. Very rarely heard clicking when I have used it for a while.

Review: If you want to find a headset with good quality and long talking hours without costing you a lot. This is the one. But it's not comfortable to wear. It has "windguard", but since it doesn't fit my ear very well, I am afraid it will blow away by the wind if I don't hold it to my ear. Just lean my head a little bit, it will fall. So not a good choice if you want to bring it to hiking, or even driving, you got to be careful not to let it fall. Not terrible, just a little thing you need to worry about. I also have another actiontec headset. It fits better but shorter talk hours and harder to pair.

My third bluetooth headset. It's My Top Choice

Pros: Lightweight, long battery life, very clear sound on mic, excellent wind protection, operation is easy with just two buttons, goes into standby to save battery

Cons: Feels floppy sometimes, but has never fallen off; hard to find in stock.

Review: This is the third bluetooth headset that I have had, including the Logitech Mobile Freedom (which I returned). This is very light and comfortable to wear. Everyone that I talk to with it tells me that the sound is very clear. The names that I have recorded for voice recognition are significantly clearer than my other headsets. It is easy to use, with only two buttons. Pairing was simple as well. The instruction manual is only three pages, (small pages) so you can understand how simple it is to operate. Excellent battery life, and goes into standby to save battery. Wakes up when my phone rings. I have no complaints. It's what bluetooth is supposed to be -- and it is inexpensive besides. The biggest problem is that it is hard to find them in stock for $44 or less.

Does this headset work well with the Motorola V551??

Purchased two. Both had background "clicks" during operation--transmission & reception

Pros: "Automatic" handsfree connect! Long battery life, lightweight, and easy-to-use. Good "loud" volume.

Cons: Poor reception that included "clicking." Earpiece fits loosely

Review: Had the reception been "click-free," I would still own this headset. At less than $50, it had all the bells & whistles that I needed with a great price, but not when my "receivers" complain that "I'm constantly breaking up." Too bad . . . $-(
Updated
Learning the hardway, through buying/returning several Bluetooth headset models, I've reconsidered this headset to actually be a good performer--though not ideal for Treo 650 owners. It did quickly "Auto-connect" during dialing and had great volume range. For its reasonable price, it's not a bad place to start the "trial & error" process . . .

Bought it cause it light and had a convicing salesperson, said it would work with my glasses

Pros: lightweght, inexpensive, has eyeglasses attachment

Cons: the eyeglass attachment, big speaker, lot of static, bad bad range.

Review: the sabra 500 is a good looking piece and very inexpensive. As a first time bluetooth user I was attracted to it. There has to be something better, maybe it's not that compatible with my LG pm-325, but I could not get a clear reception without it being less than armslength away. The eyeglass attachment was a good idea that isn't perfect, I had to adjust my glasses constantly, the speaker was too big for my ear, the earpiece loop was better. I guess I'll keep looking for the right one... or is the technology not there yet?

Good for Bluetooth Nubies

Pros: Looks cool, volume is good, hardly remember its on your ear after a while. Price is very good.

Cons: With the T610, its just ok to work with. It drops connections from short distances, I still have not found how to use if i answer the phone directly. The charger is a joke

SWEET, Easy to use

Pros: Sound is very good, and volume control is much better than the phone (Motorola V551) Did I say volume can actually be turned up to a loud setting that actually works :) I will recommend to all of my friends. Try to find a friend who has one, and you will

Cons: Could be a little more snug fitting and the blu/red light would be better if it were not so bright

if you have a Treo 650 poor sound, better sound with speaker phone outside or in the airport.

Pros: Very light, comfortable. I like the fact that the control button does more than just connect and redial.

Cons: poor sound quality. lots of static. when answering the phone, takes 4 to 5 seconds before the CS500 can catch the call with the Treo650. Volume of Sound is poor, in places like a airport or a mall, it is better to use the orginal wire ear bub for hands f

Clearest headset I've ever used!

Cons: The only issue I have is that it feels loose when I'm walking around with it on. I would rather that it fit snuggly against my face/ear and not move at all.

Best Bluetooth headset available today!

Pros: Small, lightweight and feature rich. The scala-500 works very well right out of the box and has excellent volume and audio controls. It's the best value for the buck and it's perhaps the best looking headset on the market.

Cons: None!
