  • "Still no pause for music or volume control?"
    2.5 stars
    on by RAAG36

Pros: Jawbones look great, but it's still about what they can actually do as far as I'm concerned.

Cons: The Era sounds like my Icon plus a few gimmicks, but still apparently doesn't have a way to pause music nor does it have a volume control. TapTap, ShakeShake, but how about PausePause or VolumeUpVolumeUp and VolumeDownVolumeDown?

Summary: CNET says "The Aliph Jawbone Era doesn't have a dedicated volume rocker, and the way it fits the ear is not as easy and comfortable as we would like" and yet it "hit's it out of the park"? It seems to me that lack of a volume rocker and how easy and comfortably it fits your ear might be important enough that products with these problems aren't hitting anything out of the park except perhaps some objectivity. Not mentioning the apparent lack of music pause raises questions about the quality of the review. And if it now has music pause that would be important enough that it should have been mentioned in the review since numerous owners are unhappy when they discovered the lack of pause function on the Icon.

I just bought a Plantronics Voyager Pro Plus and wish I'd done so before rather than after blowing the money on the Icon.

I just bought the ERA today. I think you are correct that it would have been better with dedicated volume and ability to pause music. As I have just had it for a day so far, I do not fully know all the features that it can do. I do know that if you hold the talk button while listening to music or while on the phone, it wil cycle through volume levels. There maybe a feature to pause music play that I am not aware of.
As for CNET's review, I agree with you that the "hits it out of the park" statement is over the top. Especially, since they didn't like the fit of the device.

So basically you reviewed the device with out actually using it? Yeah, that's not a "review," that's a hypothesis. Maybe come back after you've actually used the device.
