The good: The LG HBS-700 headset has an unusual but very comfortable behind-the-neck design. It also has good audio quality, especially for music.

The bad: The LG HBS-700 can't support multiconnection and music streaming at the same time, and call quality suffered in noisier environments.

The bottom line: The LG HBS-700 is one of the most comfortable stereo Bluetooth headsets we've ever tried, plus it offers good audio quality at an affordable price.

LG is no stranger to stereo Bluetooth headsets. From the compact HBS-200 to the more gym-friendly HBS-250, LG has usually stuck to the same behind-the-neck philosophy with its headset design. That continues with its more recent offering, the LG HBS-700. However, the HBS-700 features a number of innovative improvements that set it apart from its predecessors--it's much more comfortable, for example--and because of that, it has earned its spot as one of the better-designed headsets we've ever tried. The LG HBS-700 retails for $69.99.

Design
The HBS-700 certainly looks unusual. It consists of two cylindrical pods connected via an 8.5-inch flexible neckband, with a wired earbud coming out of each pod. Each wired earbud is threaded through two plastic loops that you can slide along the neckband to the spot you find most comfortable. The overall effect is kind of messy-looking, with wires flapping about when you first pick the headset up. However, LG cleverly incorporated magnetic pockets at the end of each cylindrical pod. These pockets are made to house the earbuds so that they don't fly around wildly when not in use.

To wear the HBS-700, simply place the neckband around your neck with the two pods hanging around your shoulders like two ends of a scarf. The neckband is made out of an ultralight shape memory alloy so that it conforms to the shape of your neck. Indeed, it felt very comfortable and lightweight when we tried it on. When you want to use the earbuds, just pop them out of the aforementioned pockets and place them in your ear. The earbuds, clad in soft rubber covers, sit snugly inside the ear. LG has included a couple more earbud covers in case you want different size options.

Because of this configuration, we had no difficulty wearing glasses while using the headset. This is unlike most behind-the-neck headsets, and we were grateful.

As you might expect, the two pods are where the controls are housed. The right pod is home to the play/pause button plus the track shuttle keys, while the left pod houses the call button, the volume rocker, the on/off switch, and the Micro-USB charging jack. On the whole, we found the controls easy to use. The buttons are raised above the surface and easy to find by feel.

Features
The LG HBS-700 provides the usual capability to answer, reject, and end calls. It also has last number redial, call waiting support, and auto reconnect. There's also a Bluetooth ringtone answering function that will play your phone's ringtone for incoming calls through the headset. If you're listening to music when a call comes in, the headset will vibrate on one side. The headset also has multipoint support, meaning you can connect to two devices at once. However, when you're in multipoint mode, you won't be able to use the music streaming function.

I bought this headset and tried to configure with my Samsung Note II. It asked me to enter the pin and by mistake I put the wrong pin. Since then I cannot pair it to my note II. Does anybody know how to reset the memory on LG HSB-700? Or can somebody help me to pair this set to my phone?

@kashdotcom  For me it was effortless. As soon as I scanned to locate and pair, when I clicked the discovered  LG tone device, it paired automatically. I didn't need nor was asked to enter a pin.  By the way, we have the same phone, so I don't know what gives. But I believe you can start over and try again if indeed you need to enter a pairing code. Go to your BT option from your pull down notification. Activate your BT so it lights up. Then press and hold the BT icon to display all past paired / used BT devices. (If a screen auto pops up showing your BT devices back out of it THEN hit and hold the icon) Look to the right on your screen and note the gear icon. Click it and "unpair" the LG Tone if it's there and then rescan and start the process over. If again, it fails to pair automatically, just get your pin code correct this time around and see if you are good to go. Hope this helps if you are still having trouble. Let me know.  Awesome phones we have, ehh?

@Shiloh2rtn Thanks for quick reply. I tried pairing it with my wife's iPhone and I also went to BestBuy but the pair was not recognized. I have another Bluetooth device which had an option that if you press and hold both up and down volume for few seconds, the memory will get cleared in the headset and it will pair with my phone. The memory of BT device gets saturated when you try to pair it for several times. And the BT headset worked for me. That was the reason I was asking if you know how to clear memory form HSB-700. I have two sets. The one that works with my phone is amazing and hence I bought second one for my wife but it is giving issues with her phone.

I own a Galaxy Note 2 and these headphones are a must-have for me. It's convenient to be able to leave my phone in my pocket and answer from my collar. When I'm wearing Polo's the collar will hide it, and when I'm working out it doesn't look out of place. It does look a bit weird when you're wearing a collar-less shirt but I think the convenience outweighs the awkward appearance. I mean, google glass is going to have a harder time fitting in then these headphones...

Are there any bluetooth devices to plug into the Stereo OUT on a HDTV and use with these bluetooth headset, so I can watch tv at night without disturbing my neighbors with to loud of volume? I have the TV Ears but they pull on your ears since the lower half hangs upside down instead of on top of your head.

I used to think LG= Low Grade, but a few of their Tvs and such look ok at the moment.

However, these headphones are hideous! There are so many cables on them why bother with wireless technology at all! The whole point of bluetooth is to get rid of the damn cables. I don;t know why more companies aren't doing Bluetooth headphones in beanies and headbands like www.ZED-phones.com

@CARVE_IT Easy, easy!!! Your descriptive word "hideous" is a bit over the top from where I'm standing. I own a pair and flat out love them. "so many cables...." really, "so many" - I count two. But before you are so quick to toss the idea out, think it through. I, for instance, enjoy hours long bike riding. I need a helmet on my head, not a beanie. I enjoy listening to music or talk radio and and really like the ear buds blocking out most external sound. Additionally I have to wear sun glasses. Cableless models invariably compete for space around the ear(s). These little ear buds sneak past it all (helmet straps and sunglass stems behind the ear) and fit snuggly just in the right spot. Now dude, from the magnet to my ear is inches!! My phone is located, [cable free, if it needs to be said] behind my back in one of those silly fanny packs that I wear in reverse for my rides. The whole setup works absolutely flawlessly. I'll spare you the details but let me just say that for all intents and purposes, I AM CABLE FREE. All my past problems dealing with that stupid, frustrating cable from ear to phone is history. It has been put to rest.  So settle down and recognize LG's ingenious design. It might not suit you but for me, it is EXACTLY what I need. Anything less probably just wouldn't work. Thank you LG and I hope you get a sale or two for those who read this and see things the way I do. These rock!

@Shiloh2rtn I know you said you cycle with these in, but How would you think these would stand up next to a jogger?

@Shiloh2rtn I agree with you. I do not see so many wires on this head set. In fact the way the set is designed, I have yet to see such slik and beautiful design. I simply love it.

I like just about everything about the headset except the Rang , 20 feet and you are out of range. It cost to much money, to not have the range of a hand held wireless phone for the home .

Will this work with the ps3?

@wc6878  The ascribed functions do not work with my SGH-i717, but that could be a picnic error as I have heavily debloated the stock firmware.

I'll reflash stock and report back.

Buyer BEWARE of LG!!!!

I loved this headset. I used them everyday right up until the right ear piece quit working after 6mons of use. I thought no big deal, its still under warranty. So I contacted LG, got a RA# and sent them off. Well ~2wks later they came back. The same broken headset!! So called and talked to customer service. They said I didn't have a valid proof of purchase. I told them I sent them my purchase confirmation receipt with date purchased, full product description, sku, and purchase amount. What else did they need. They say it needs to be from an authorized seller. I told her I didn't buy it on eb@y.. I didn't buy an oem version... I bought a new in retail package headset from a reparable seller. She goes on to say that they aren't authorized seller. So requested a list of who is and who isn't authorized. The rep tells me she can't provide me with that information. I asked her if she can't provide me with that information then how can I ensure that I am buying from a authorized/approved dealer so that my warranty will be valid. Or does LG just not honor their warranties!!! My guess is the list of authorized sellers change to fit their needs so they can do or not warranty work when they want to. If you ask me they were very VERY dodgy and didn't honor the warranty.

has anyone tried these with an android smartphone and if so, do the track forward/reverse buttons work for it?

@wc6878 I use it with my Galaxy Note 2 no problem at all with track fwd/rev at all. Wish the base was a little deeper but good overall.

Have to give this otherwise fantastic headset only 3-stars. Why? Because it apparently cannot pair with he entire family of Asus Transformer tablets produced to date. I have a TF300t, others with TF201 & TF101 devices report the same issue. We can pair just fine for audio as well as multi-point with a phone and tablet. But when you want to make use of video or any sort of voice chat the LG HBS-700's mic is not active only the on-board mic for the tablet. The tablet mic is, well to be kind, not excellent...ok it kinda sucks hard.

The ability to use a HEADSET (as in not simple headphones) was why i chose the HBS-700 set. And in every way save the mic issue it truly is exactly what I want in a headset...except for me it functions only as a pair of headphones...in other words I get only 50% of the functionality I promised.

I flat do not care who is to blame here. Don't care if it's LG or Asus but someone needs to either fix their end or those two multi-billion-dollar companies need to solve this widespread issue for us poor peons. ;) If fixed it's a 10+ headset...

One great positive I have to share is it is the perfect headset/headphones to wear for sleeping. I don't even notice them on if I fall asleep or need an audiobook on to block out background noise...so danged comfy to wear...

are you sure that those tablets have bluetooth? because i thought my laptop did, but i ended up having to buy a dongle for it. with the software i have, you have to disconnect the headphone part to use the headset part (really annoying sometimes)
