When you think of wireless Bluetooth headsets, the first thing that comes to mind are those sometimes ugly, often bulky devices that resemble props from Star Trek. While they're no doubt useful, not everyone appreciates their conspicuousness. Thank heavens then for Danish design. With the $74 Bluespoon AX, Denmark-based Nextlink offers mobile users a wireless option that's a solid marriage of form and function.

At first glance, we were perplexed by the AX's form factor since there's no visible way to hook it over the ear. But like Bluespoon's earlier model, the AX has a soft stem of rubber that bends to fit inside of the earlobe and manages to hold it in place. It took a few tries, but putting the headset on is simple once you've mastered the process. Also, unlike its predecessor, the AX (available in clear plastic and black) can fit in either ear. The fit is plenty comfortable--it ships with two different-size earpieces--but we felt that it was prone to falling out if we were doing something more strenuous than, say, walking down the street or driving a car.

One thing that we love about the Bluespoon AX is its discreetness. At 1.6 by 1.1 by 0.9 inches and 0.3 gram, the headset is downright tiny. Because of its size, the small controls are limited to two volume controls and the multifunction button that we used to couple the device with the Motorola Razr V3.

Pairing the AX was a breeze, and call quality was mostly good and clear. On our side, we could hear callers quite well, and while there was a slight hiss on their side, they remarked that we came through fine. One caller, however, heard some background noise. Nextlink promises a total talk time of 6 hours and more than 300 hours of standby time.

I think it is the best blue tooth out there.

Pros: It fits perfect in your ear and you don't have to fight that stupid wire that barely hangs onto your ear. I could hear real clear and it really blocked the outside noises and wind. would not trade it for the world.

Cons: You can't make any sudden or jarring movements or it will fall out.

Review: I bought one for my sister and brother in law. He really liked the fact that it fit in his ear and blocked a lot of noise. He is a heavy machine operator. She didn't care for how it felt in her ear. I liked the light weight and the fact that I did not have to fight the wire around my ear. I hate they no longer make it.

Good value for money

Pros: Neat form factor; utilitarian; affordable.

Cons: Not the best at high volume

Review: My first bluetooth headset - been pretty happy with it. Its small and fits well in the ear. Functions quite well.

The only thing I didn't like about it is that the person on the other end hears an echo at higher volumes. At mid to low volumes its just fine. But this hasn't affected me too much.

Bottom line - Not the best out there in terms of build quality but definitely bang for the buck!

GOOD little wireless earpiece "DON'T DROP IT"

Fit is perfect, too bad they can't understand me

Pros: Fit, Fit, Fit

Cons: Outgoing sound quality is below par

Review: I have been testing a number of headsets and had the AX2, the Jawbone, and the WEP200 all at the same time to compare. The AX fit was amazing. The earspring really did keep it in place and secure. Nothing else I have tried has come close to being this secure. The problem is everyone I called complained about the sound.

This one went back in the box pretty quickly because it was obvious that nobody liked talking to me on it.
Updated
I forgot to mention, the multifunction button was loose and it rattled when I walked. Pretty annoying, but I would have overlooked this if the sound quality was good.

If you want a disposable headset, this is the one to buy

Pros: good volume & battery life, very comfortable

Cons: very delicate; if you drop it once it's gone.

Review: I have owned two of these headsets within the last 6 months. The first one is in pieces & after I dropped the second one once it has stopped working.

The fact that I bought a second unit after the first one stopped working shows how much I liked the unit. But now, forget it. It's made like it's disposable!!!

After one year and still Standing...

Pros: Light weight/great earpiece communicator

Cons: At first getting used to it... to small to handle

Review: It's been a year since my AX2 and I cross paths and is still standing, so far I haven't change the battery, the calls quality is magnificent. I could be with it all they long not dropping any call signals.

I haven't seen nothing new or better yet, that make me change my mind about my bluespoon...best buy ever !!!

I had high hopes from word of mouth

Pros: The compact size is impressive.

Cons: Sounds quality not the greatest. Echoes on other end.

Review: The compact size is what attracted me to the BlueSpoon AX2. I saw an associate with one at work. He loved it and said it worked well for him. Although, I'm not sure if he had tried other brands. It seemed to stay in my ear just fine, but the sound quality was too tinny for me compared to the Verizon Plantronics I have now which stays put even better. My wife heard her own voice echo as she talked to me from our home land line.

You what you pay for ;)

Pros: Cheap, small

Cons: unstable fit, uncomfortable, bad sound, not functional

Review: After receiving my Treo 700p, I decided that i needed a bluetooth headset (one of the main reasons that I upgraded from a 600 to a 700). The manager at radio shack recommended this one. He said he had not heard any complaints about it. I saw the price as compared to the other ones and took a gamble. That little voice inside of my head kept saying "Now why do you think it is so cheap you big dummy?" I told my little voice to shut up, since I don't have $150 to shell out for the best this time. I got home and charged it. I managed to figure out how it stays in my here and was dissapointed. It sticks this painful piece of plastic to wrap inside your ear. It felt like it would fall out if I even thought too hard. I went to the manual again, to ensure it was being worn properly. Sure enough, it was the intended design to not only fall out, but also cause a painful feeling if worn for more than a few minutes on the ear. The first few calls I made were crystal clear, leaving me in awe of this cheap wonder. The very next day I could not get my phone to even recognize the bluetooth signal from it. Thinking that it might now have been properly charged, I plugged it in again for the proper charge time. This time when it worked, it sounded absolutely horrible. There was a tin-like sound, accompanied by a static crackle that refused to go away even with hanging up and redialing. It was the equivelent of putting your ear to an AM radio during a thunderstorm. If not for the initial functioning and clarity of my first few calls, I would have given this a 1. Remember, the majority of the time, you get what you pay for. Now I have to pay for the gas to drive back to Radio Shack to return this thing.

Really wanted to like it but was terribly disappointed.

Pros: Size, weight (11g), design

Cons: Fit, Sound Quality, Connectivity

Review: Picked it up Friday to replace my Jabra BT200 (23g) because I wear glasses, probably going to return it Tuesday (Sunday store's closed and Monday's a holiday in Alberta.) Love the design but there's just too many problems. Ear piece doesn't protrude into the ear canal far enough for me which leads to a hollow, tinny sound quality, static through the speaker is maddening. Let it charge overnight when I first got it and it worked okay from 8:30AM to 9:00AM Saturday when it disconnected from my Motorola V710 (which my Jabra BT200 works almost flawlessly) and wouldn't pair with my phone even after deleting the first pairing record. Talked to the salesman and he suggested charging it again because it wouldn't even turn on (300+ hours standby?!). Tried it again Sunday and it keeps dropping the connection to my phone for no reason at all. Proximity to phone didn't change but it keeps dropping the pairing and when I press the connection button it needs to pair with my V710 again and more often than not I have to again delete the pairing record or it will give me the "invalid pin" message. Unlike some of the other reviews I haven't had a problem with dropped calls only because I haven't been able to use it on a call yet. Maybe I received a faulty unit and I'll give it a try with another one if I can and I hope that will solve some of the problems and I'll let you know. Sorry guys.

Looks great, poor design, minimally functional

Pros: Small and compact, user friendly controls, fits entirely inside ear, doesn't interfere with glasses, discreet style

Cons: cheap construction, power cord connection fits poorly- gives unreliable recharge, microphone and speaker too close, resulting in annoying feedback for other person

Review: I returned this headset after two days due to it's ill-fitting recharger connection that resulted in inadequate and unreliable charging. When the other person talked, they could hear an annoying echo that was reduced when I pressed the headset against my head or when I reduced my headset volume--indicating significant feedback between the speaker and microphone. A problem that brought other customers to return theirs to the store. I'm still searching for a headset with similar features but better design and quality.

Portable and User Friendly

Pros: Great pairing and USB charger for laptop

Cons: Small and earpiece could be uncomfortable for some

Review: v1.2 Bluetooth but compatible with all bluetooth.
The best thing is that it has a USB charger so you don't have to bring your power adapter if its low and could just attach it to any computer or laptop at any time. It also comes with a lanyard(necklace)that attaches to the tip of the device so you don't have to where it all day.
Pairing is easy, like all the headsets i've used. I had a plantronics explorer 320 and the range was very low i can't move anywhere without static.
with the bluespoon, i could walk anywhere around my house and leave my phone in the room and get little static sometime.

probably people have the most problem is the earpiece fitting. its a love hate relationship....some people will love it. I DO!!! and sometime will hate it. it has this antenna looking piece on the earpiece and you put it inside your ear, not around it, INSIDE the bowl of your ear.

looks are nothing great....but you can't see it anyways....its the SMALLEST bluetooth i've ever seeen!!!!!!!!!!it has two volume buttons and the universal talk button which lights up.

basically range is awesome...pairing is awesoem....user friendly

i like it and its a great deal.

Good Sound, Small form factor

Pros: The sound quality was clear. Personal best feature the small form factor.

Cons: Largest problem was the construction

Review: The quality of this device was severly lacking in construction since it didn't survive a relatively small drop. I was however pleased with the sound and small form factor.

Light, Easy to Pair, Works Well

Pros: Lightweight, Mute seperate from volume controls

Cons: Earbud could be made softer

Review: This bluetooth headset is light and very easy to use. I tried one other headset and it weighed heavily on my ear. The volume controls on the top and bottom and mute on the side are very easy to master. The side multifunction button is also easy to master. Hold for 3 seconds to turn on and hold for 3 seconds to turn off. (Plus the blue lights for on and the red lights for off.) My wife got the Jabra XJ10 $180 she loves it but this Bluespoon was $80 and it has mute which she does not.

Excellent sound quality

Pros: Small, lightweight, good sound, easy pairing

Cons: Cheap construction, earpiece,

Review: Using this with Sprints Samsung A-900 (the Blade). I first tested Jabra, Motorola, Scala and this one was the best. I like how I can connect to my phone, walk away and out of range, and when I come back in range it automatically connects. Connects every time consistently. Voice mode works great. I don't like the strange earpiece, but the Jabra ear gels fit on here too, which is what I prefer and use. Sometimes people on the other end hear their voice echo, but calls on my end are very clear. I prefer the in-ear design to the over-ear. Much more stable, it can't fall out (with the Jabra ear buds) and it is really small and light. The plastic housing feel a bit cheap, and sometime the outside button will get stuck down if you press it too hard. I hate the blue flashing light, especially in the car at night, but every BT headset does this except for some of the Motorola's. I Highly recommend it.

Horrible sound quality at caller's end

Pros: Cute design, good receiver sound, seamless pairing

Cons: Extremely distorted sound at caller's end, picks up way too much noise, poor manual

Review: Got horrible complaints from my callers. Using on a RAZR V3. Severe waterfall sound effects, picks up important static from head movements & background noises. Checked it out myself. Irritating and unusable.

On the plus side, very cute design, no problems fitting unique rubber hook in ear, comfortable fit, good sound quality at my end. Great rechargeable battery desing. Talk button a little picky (sometimes needs 2 or 3 tries to get it to turn on and off), poor manual, but understandable if you have technical experience. This would be a good BT headset would it not be for the HORRIBLE sound quality at the other end. Worst BT headset I ever tried (out of 3, HS-820 & HS-850). Would have thrown in garbage or kept purely as novelty if I wasn't able to return it.

Great little headset

Pros: small and less noticeable

Cons: easy to lose

Review: I've had six BT headsets in the past year! I've returned a most of them (two plantronics, 2 motorolas, 1 G2). I recently replaced my latest motorola (6th victim) that got runover by a car when it dropped out of my pocket with the Bluespoon AX. It worked with no problem. With my luck though, I'm not sure how long I'll be able to keep this little thing before I lose or crush it. If you're a careful person who keeps things in order, than this is a great value. It paired with my Treo 650 just fine.

Looks cool, but static reception

Pros: Space age looks. Very comfortable.

Cons: low volume, static reception

Review: I recently bought a PALM Treo 650, so naturally I wanted to go wirelss with a bluetooth headset. Unfortunately, this item is much like the high maintenance blond you've always wanted. Looks good, but, there's no real substance beyond the looks.

My boss has the same headset Nextlink, without any complaints, however, when I personally tried out Motorola's newest HS850, there was no comparision in reception quality - the Motorola was way better! You've got to remember that Motorola has been doing the wireless radio act for decades prior to Nextlink, so who are you going to trust as someone who has perfected the routine?

Overall, this headset is good, however the static problems I've had, plus the low volume dilemma has killed it in my mind... I'm returning this thing ASAP.

Bad sound quality, cheaply made, PAINFULL!!!!!!!

Pros: Ligth, usb charger.

Cons: USB cable too long, DID I MENTION PAINFULL!!

Review: Did the editor reviewing this not have the earpiece in his ear for more than 10 minutes??? I put this in my right ear and the first thing that I noticed was that it had the worst audio quality of any BT earpiece that I bought (bought 5 so far). After it was in my ear for about 45 minutes my ear started to hurt really bad. I tried the other included ear piece in the other ear (dumb) and that one hurt also. I wouldnt have kept this unit even if it did hurt as the audio quality stinks. And it feels very cheaply made for the price. I didnt have any problems with pairing or dropping the connection once paired.

Very appealing design. Bad communication tool.

Pros: Very small. Easy to install and operate

Cons: Very painful to wear for more than an hour. Bad communication and constant noises when using outside of the building.

Review: First impression of this small device was very positive. I had no problems pairing it with my Nokia 6230.

Though, device is very easy to operate and wear, there are a few bad things about this headset.

One is that it is working very poorly when you are walking outside. Constant noise and interruptions of the signal. However, the connection is strong and clear inside of the building. Probably, there are too many electromagnetic interferences in the NYC.
Forget about using this headset when it is a bit windy outside.

Two, due to specific design of the headphone, it is quite difficult to wear it for more than one hour. Even thou that the rubber clip is very soft, it is still giving some pressure to your ear. It was very uncomfortable to wear this headset for a long period of time.

Generally a very good set, I would buy another one if it had a better attachment to the neck strap.

Pros: Replaceable rechargeable battery is nice, small, lightweight (forget it's there sometimes), quite robust, surprisingly secure in ear, usb charging

Cons: Attachment to neck strap via charging port is really poor design, dettaches very easily. Affected severely by wind, to the point where other party can't hear you when you are walking.

Review: Mostly good, the pros outweighs then cons, just that my piece dettached quite easily from the neck strap, fell to bits the last time it fell on the floor. I can say it's quite robust cause it fell more than 10 times before if fell to bits. Mind you, it didn't actually break, just needed to piece them back together like a lego set, unfortunately, it's strong point, ie. very small, makes this an impossible task, and eventually one of the wire came off the main board (very tiny), so even if I could lego (re-assemble) them back, the wire inside is busted. If you already have one, try to find a way to better secure to the neck strap, don't rely on the attachement via the charging port. A point to note also is that it will not play audio from the MP3 software of the mobile phone it's connected to. I've been told it's more the mobile not supporting it. Mine is a SE p910i. Been told most mobiles don't support the A2DP profile, but I have read on the web that you can get A2DP device that can A2DP-enable your mobile.
The neck strap attachment is the main reason for my hesitance to replace my broken one with the same one!

Honeymoon lasted 3 months

Pros: Tiny, discreet, sound quality

Cons: Horrid build quality, sketchy connectivity

Review: I raved about the headset to anyone who would listen when I first got it. It's very tiny and very cool that way.

But then the problems started. First it would drop connection for no reason. Then it would turn off on its own for no reason. Then it wouldn't start back up unless you plugged it in for charging, then press the power button to reactivate. Even then, sometimes it wouldn't start back up unless you let it sit and rest.

Very inconvenient.

Then Sunday I accidentally dropped it from a distance of 2 feet, onto the hardwood floor of my home. It disintegrated as though it had a mini bomb inside. Good riddance and a fitting send-off, if you ask me.

Bluespoon has seen my last dollar for anything they sell. I ordered a Plantronics 640, we'll see how that one fares.

Shocked and

Pros: Their is none

Cons: didn't work no customer service

Review: I purchased a bluespoon ax direct from nextlink and had 1 day of use. After that the battery would no longer charge, I suspect a bad connection on the headset. Contacted bluespoon by e-mail, 4-5 times, with bad results. The only assistance I received was an e-mail to package the headset, pay for shipping to Denmark, they would then test the unit and then decide if they would send a new one or maybe not. They will not accept returns. I subjected they send me a new and charge my account and include a postage played return package so I could return the faulty unit and then they could credit my account. I have always had this option in the past with every company I have dealt with. NO CAN DO! All this for a product that I paid 38 bucks for. Including the needed accessories to operate this headset I spent a total of $118.00. I have caulked this up as a bad investment and to warn others of this useless company and their anti customer service policies.

This is the one for me!

Pros: small, very comfortable, sunglass compatible, very clear output on both sides of the line.

Cons: fragile, voice quality great though outgoing volume is lower than handset

Review: Overall the Bluespoon is a great tool though I fear it may get misplaced or run through the wash some day. Battery life is good, voice very good, range is in line with bluetooth specs. Though none receiving calls from me have complained I find the outgoing call volume to be attenuated when compared to my RAZR's built in mic.

Great looking, but fragile and poor sound

Pros: Very small and comfortable to wear.

Cons: Will break very easily due to plastic construction.

Review: I am now on my third headset in less than two months. The first earpiece's plastic casing broke when dropped on a hard floor. I thought this could have been built out of a more durable material, even at an increased cost to buyer.

The second had a range of less than one foot and may be because it had a bad antenna when shipped. Finally, the manufacturer exchanged it, but I had to ship the unit to Denmark for an exchange and the third one works so far.

If this one fails, then I'm done with it and will go to something less discreet in order to gain durability, range, and sound quality. Bluespoon does have a new 5G coming out that looks awesome and is even smaller than the AX!!!

The best headset I have ever had!

Pros: Small size, long battery life, clear incoming calls, wow factor

Cons: Small and fragile, sometimes people can't hear me well (rarely), starts to hurt ear after prolonged use - 1 hour or more

Review: This is one awsome piece of technology. The buttons are user friendly and the thing is so small, you'll barely notice you are wearing a headset at all. The battery life is amazing. I was concerned when I first got my Bluespoon that I would have trouble putting it in my ear, but it is very simple and is very secure in the ear. It does start to become irritating after prolonged use, but this is the case with any headset in my experience. I had an early model Jabra before and this thing blows it away. You can get one Ebay for around $50.00.

Looks great, but sounds horrible w/lots of static & tin-can caller voices

Pros: Small, lightweight, unobtrusive

Cons: TONS of static within 2' of phone, sounds like a tin can

Review: Unfortunately, this product is a dud. I've been using a Motorola HS-810 with my Verizon PPC (Audiovox 6600). A friend recently recommended the Bluespoon AX as the “best bluetooth headset there is,” better than my Motorola HS810; clearer, louder, lighter, smaller.

She couldn't have been more wrong. While the Bluespoon AX is smaller, and lighter, the sound quality is horrible. I had complaints from callers that my voice sounded full of static, and that was with the phone resting on my desk or my credenza (within 2’ of me). My callers voices sounded to me as if they were coming through on a tin can-string telephone. I then tested the unit with my phone in my pocket and by walking about 5’ away from the phone. I received incredible amounts of static. I reset the Bluespoon AX numerous times and unpaired/paired it again with my phone (per Nextlink’s instructions, even removing the batter to do so), and still it sounded very, very bad.

I don't know how the reviewers could have given this product. The only redeeming quality was that the volume was a bit louder than my HS810, but this due to the nature of the earpiece fitting more snugly within the ear canal (as opposed to the HS810 which rests flatly against the ear canal). However, I rather not hear a louder version of a poor quality voice reproduction.

I'm returning this unit in exchange for the Motorola HS850 (the newer version of the 810). The Motorola headset functions very well.

Love the size - doesn't survive drops

Pros: In the ear design, weight and uniqueness

Cons: Not solid in construction

Review: I have had 2 of the AX units since they were introduced. I haven't used the neck strap - seems unusual to have a strap running up to your ear. Both times, the headset has fallen from my hand - while shuffling coffee cups, wallet etc. They hit the floor and splatter.

In an effort to make them as light as possible, there isn't much there to hold it together. Will have to look for something else.

Pros: Small size very indiscreet, will not draw a lot of attention.

Cons: Some what limited range, easy to lose if your messy like me!!

Pros: I guess size. You can dress in a black suite with sunglasses and mess with people walking through the mall.

Cons: Again size, cheap design

Review: Very cheaply made plastic. Pairing is a pain. Lost connection 5 times in the last two days with the phone. Each time required plugging back into power source to reset the unit.

Mic is overly sensitive. Driving 70 mph down the road with this is a bad idea. Way too much back ground noise. Other party hears whistling noise and echo from their voice being transmitted from the ear piece back to the mic since they are millimeter apart from one another.

Plastic is cheap and prone to cracking.

It's awesome!!!

Pros: Very handy and with the talk time it is holding out at 6hours

Cons: Need a little bit responsibility not to lose, accessories hard to get.

Review: I is however a great headset, very user friend on paiting. I use this on my Ngage Nokia and it works well. I did however had to return the first set as defective yet luckily the online merchant replaced it with that works. We happy! However I would not buy it from the 99.95 merchant.

this is the headset i'm longing for

Pros: Bought this from a retailer in Hong Kong. Great customer service. Couldn' wait to open it up and found the amazing small size and light weight of the AX. After charging, paired with my O2 xdaII. It's the best pairing experience and ease of use. The w

Cons: Packaging is not attractive among others. No power adaptor with the package.

"you'll appreciate the AX!"

Pros: very light weight as if it's not there. comfortable and great sound quality.

Cons: not all CR2032 batteries can work on the AX. manufacturer prefer to purchase the replacement battery from the factory. but that's really picking the bones out of an egg.

Only lasted 45 days

Pros: Great while it worked.

Cons: Charged every night with provided hardware. It failed to charge one evening and faint electrical smell followed. Company that I purchased it from Web Site is no longer available. And, they don't answer the phones.

Great form factor, buttons are toylike though

Pros: Compared this to the Scala 500 which hooks over the ear. I much prefer the rubber "spring" in the ear...and I disagree with Cnet, you can run with it in your ear! The ones that hook over your ear usually don't have a way to sit IN your ear, so they flop

Cons: The buttons are slightly "loose" in the housing. They have the feeling of being "cheap" or like they belong on a toy. Sometimes, when I'm NOT on a call, but the headset is in my ear and I'm moving around, I hear the buttons "jiggle" in their positions.

AMAZING JUST BUY IT

Pros: it's very lightweight and comfortable, I sometimes even forget I've got it on, it's also very small so it's not clunky like the over-the-ear models, it also connects very smoothly with my phone, has excellent sound quality (both sending and receiving), an

Cons: Sometimes the main button feels a little squishy and have had one problem with it auto-redialing and me not knowing it was on a call..

Excellent Quality at Reasonable Price

Pros: Had my AX for 2 months, excellent quality and design. The mic is one of the best in the market which picks up the user's voice very well considering the size and distance it is from the mouth.

Cons: Only USB charging ... sometimes not as convenient if you decide to travel without a notebook.
