"READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY BLUETOOTH!"

by mgibboni on August 9, 2006

Pros: Size, Sound Clarity, Fit, Coolness-Factor

    Cons: Price....uhhh, yup just that.

Summary: Ok - so here goes. This may be a long read, but I consider myself the Prince of Bluetooth headsets, so I hope it helps someone make a smart buying decision.

First off, go buy this headset RIGHT NOW!
I have used the following headsets in the past two years with a Nokia phone, LG phone, and a Blackberry:
Motorola H300: Zero volume and flopped around on my ear.
Plantronics Voyager 510: A bit large w/ tiny behind the ear volume control.
Plantronics Explorer 320: Hurt my inner ear.
Plantronics Discovery 640: A decent headset, but cheaply made for the price and recently broke on me.
Jabra BT250: Large, moved out of place everytime I turned my head.
Jabra BT800: HUGE, HEAVY - didn't perform like the specs say it should.
Jabra JX10: Not bad, but cheap parts for $179.00 - also too much static.
Blueant X3 Micro: Horrible echo on other end.

Thank goodness Best Buy has a return policy, cause I sent 'em all back to the rack !(except Discovery 640)

As you can tell, I am VERY picky and demand performance - I have been on a QUEST to find the BEST BT Headset out there and I think I found my pot of gold.

The Nokia BH800 is unreal. Insanly small. It does not feel anywhere as cheap as the JX10. Earbud fits PERFECTLY and DOES NOT hurt my ear. Earbuds have been hurting my ear since the iPod headphones, but to my surprise, this headset is comfortable to wear all day long - no discomfort at all. I like to wear it without the included ear hook, since I always rock sunglasses in the car. I'm not saying I would go jogging with it in, but it stays put throughout my day. It is small, so "loss-factor" comes into play, but if you use the included neck strap (the correct way per the manual), it's going nowhere. Charging is easy, pairing is a cinch (currently paired to my LG VX 8300), and voice clarity is awesome on BOTH ENDS. It doesn't go the full "30 feet", but no BT out there does. It also comes with a carrying pouch to keep the headset and carry strap in. The only thing I would have liked to see in this price range is a dock-style cradle like the JX10, but the $180 I paid is well worth it for a BT this good. I wonder how much $$ I have dropped in gas back and forth to Best Buy???

So is $180 worth it for a BT this good? ...I would have paid $200.

I hope this helps someone out there make a good decision! God bless!

For that price, I guess you still getting a consumer surplus. So when you mention "loose..." you meant it by careless of misplacing it or too loose on your ear and just falls off. You think it would work fine with a panasonic VS7 model? big thx

First, got this headset for $63 at Bestbuy a couple weeks ago. Pricematch.

I've been pleased with this headset as well, and tried quite a few. First thing to note, I have an LG VX8100 which was due for replacement. I got this headset and found that on my end, it sounded great. However, on the other end everyone complained about echoes, bigtime. I had a friend call my home line to verify, and sure enough, not good.

I tried the headset paired with my Mother's LG 8300, my Dad's LG 8600 and my sister in-laws Razor. It worked much better with all of them. So, ultimately I got the 8300 (free of course, actually getting money back via rebate, so they paid me) and have been happy every since.

To anyone getting a blue tooth, try it out, return it if not completely happy. Some devices pair better with certain makes, models, etc.
