Quick Take: Oakley began dabbling in wearable electronics back in 2004 with the original Thump MP3-playing sunglasses. Surprisingly, Oakley hasn't given up on the category and continues to turn out products with increasingly favorable results. The Thump 2, for example, improved upon the design of its predecessor and added some much-needed memory. At CES 2006, the company added two more high-tech sunglasses to its lineup, the Razrwire, which integrates a mono Bluetooth headset into the ultrathin frame of the glasses, and the O Rokr.

The bulkier Oakley O Rokr offers a built-in stereo Bluetooth headset, making it the obvious choice for any MP3-playing cell phones with Bluetooth. However, the music part of the headset requires a handset that supports the Bluetooth Stereo Music Protocol (A2DP), and unfortunately, there are very few phones--like, two--currently on the market with this technology. Combine this with the fact that you'd want to use the O Rokr outdoors only (the dark lenses don't flip up), and you have a very limited target audience indeed.

That said, outdoor enthusiasts who like to multitask will certainly be pleased with the sunglasses. Dedicated buttons on the arms make it easy to answer calls, adjust volume, skip tracks, and play and pause music. The last is presumably done automatically when a call comes in, but we weren't able to test this feature. We easily paired the O Rokr to the resident T-Mobile Sidekick 3's calling function, but because this smart phone doesn't have A2DP technology, we couldn't test the music playback on the glasses. The LG Fusic is on its way back to CNET headquarters to assist with further O Rokr testing. Stay tuned.

Mostly positive, but it died after 6 months.

Pros: +Great sound quality.
+Very comfortable
+People can hear me well in most conditions, even in moderate winds.
+Very easy and intuitive to use.
+Long battery life.

Cons: -Volume doesn't go as high as I would like.
-Steam up easily
-They died after only 6 months of use! It cost me $30 to send them in for repair.
-Bluetooth connection to my phone is sketchy sometimes.

Review: I love these glasses. I'd recommend them. If they hadn't failed on me I'd have given them 4.5 stars.

awesome product

Pros: music, no wires, comfortable

Cons: sound quality, doesnt pause music when recieving a call

Review: Best pair of sunglasses i have, one of my favorite headsets...the other two would be a pair of $10 SKULLCANDY and $300 Bose QuietComfort II.

these sunglasses are really comfortable, have decent sound quality...really cool...great to show off to friends, overall-entertainment battery lasts long enough for me

good item hope next generation works on a few things

Pros: You have never talked on the phone in stereo until these

Cons: the ear piece covers

Review: I have had my O rokr's for a year wear them daily.I purchased the brown lo light lenses, wearing them indoors is no problem and work great for cutting the glare for the computer screen.the lenses are still scratch free. however the ear bud covers are lacking I have even tried to glue them on with no sucess. and at this time there a lot of phone's that will play music thru the headset. Sprint and altell combined have at least 6 phones as the ADPT2 is more avaialble. Music sound is supurb for both functions. The mic picks up less background noise than any other bluetooth headset that I have ever had due to the fact that it points down to your mouth not out

9 mths of usage!

Pros: looks good and interchangeable lenses

Cons: 100 hours standby that Motorola/Oakley claim is not true, it's more like 5 hours standby, can not be worn with a hat your ears start to hurt depending on your face geometry.

Review: like andrewbrodie's I had the same problem after 9 mths. I'm somewhat disappointed, but I can tell you this do not use these glasses under sweaty conditions! The result is faulty on and off function.

Worked for two days

Pros: Nice glasses when they work

Cons: Bulky, Don't fold up well, Don't mix with Rain or Prespiration

Review: I received my custom O-Rokrs by Oakley/Motorola two days ago and used them twice. I used them once at the gym where I paired them with my Motorola Q and enjoyed listening to MP3s during my workout. Later the same day I went for a jog and again enjoyed listening to the music. I charged the glasses over night and got the green light indicating they were charged, but they refused to turn on. Essentially they had been reduced to bulky sun glasses with ear plugs. Considering I paid $270 for a pair of customs, I expected them to work a little longer then a run and a workout. I treated them especially nice always placing them in their protective bag and then a hard case, never dropping them, and at worst I may have prespired on them (pretty natural occurrence for any active wear). They also tend to fog up pretty bad in the gym once any prespiration gets going.

I called Oakley and they redirected me to Motorola - saying that Motorola actually makes the glasses and they only provide the lenses. Motorola is responsible for all warranty work. I called Motorola and they gave me a Return Authorization number and said they'll ship me out a new pair after I send them mine. I asked about cross-shipping (even using a credit card to secure the shipment) but they said they can't do that. So now I am stuck shipping in my glasses (which were ironically supposed to be my substitute glasses for my Oakley Juliets - I get them rebuilt with new lenses ~$60 every 2-4 years) and hoping to get a set of replacements that might actually last more then two days.

Seeing as I am not the first person to have this issue with the O-Rokrs, I would seriously consider getting a pair of standalone bluetooth headphones before going for this integrated approach.

One Totally cool device

Pros: Great optics & works well with my 8525

Cons: Doesn't always do what you intend.

Review: I used it today. All day skiing. Worked fabously well. The device was intended to be used with an iPod and Moto phone. I used it with my new &very cool cingular 8525. Almost zero complaints. Didn't always do as I intended (i.e. pausing music) but in general worked great. It lasted all day too, which I was not expected. The optics are fantastic. Great job Moto/Oakley.

awesome sunglass, connectivity could use some work

Pros: no chords, don't have to remove your headphones to answer the phone

Cons: not impressed with the range

Review: the o rokr is simply awesome. the sunglasses that oakley produces never disappoints. the connectivity leaves a little to be desired though. i'm a student and i bought these with the idea that i could leave my ipod and phone in my backpack and move between my classes jamming along. this is not the case. i have the iCombi adapter for my ipod and i'm not impressed with it.
however, i ride my bike a lot and these are perfect for that. i would assume it would be perfect for any outdoor activity where you could strap your ipod to your arm

Oakley doesnt stand behind these glasses

Pros: works well when working

Cons: only worked for three days, 2nd party warranty

Review: The O ROkr worked great for three days then stopped, Iakly had me send them to Motorola for reapir and they sent me back the worng product after a month. I called Oakley and they said they only sell the glasses any warratny issues are with Motorola and they will not help.

I was shocked that Oakley which i thought was a great company acted in that manner,. Its been 2.5 months and still no glasses and Motorola will not return my call

I would highly suggest not buying them, its not worth it
I yu do buy them fvorce them to replce them because it takes hours to contact Motorala and then they never call back

Great product, Love it!!! Great Job Oakley!

Pros: dont have to be close to ur (ipod or phone)-interchangable lenses-great stereo sound-amazingly light weight---confortable--ANSI Z87. Approved!!!!

Cons: only three types of frame colors, little tricky at first

Review: The Orokrs are definetly great. I can leave my phone and ipod in my truck while i work on equipment, and so far i have no problems. ive heard of problems with the icombi but i havent had any distortion yet. i was surprised at how confortable these actually are. yes i can feel the difference from my gascans and Orokr but by not much. i say go buy a pair i love mine..

Oakley has done a great job, again!

Pros: Easy integration with Icombi AP21 ipod bluetooth adapter. Easy pairing to my Verizon xv6700 Windows Mobile5 Phone. Smaller form than the Oakley Thump2. Stereo Voice Calls!

Cons: Should have added an USB capable mp3 player, but may have detracted from nice form factor.

Review: I just bought the Oakley O ROKR glasses with the icombi AP21 Bluetooth adapter, which is now attached to an Ipod 4GB Nano. The pairing between adapter and sunglasses is easy, but you have to re-pair each time you want to use the adapter. It is not a problem, but it isn't mentioned in the instructions. Other than that, these glasses are spectacular. The glasses seamlessly paired with my Verizon xv6700 Windows Mobile5 smart phone. Listening to your callers in stereo is fantastic. I was also able to stream media player content across the bluetooth link from the phone to the O ROKR. Although the sound quailty from phone to the sunglasses is not anything like the direct link from the icombi adapter on my Ipod Nano, it is still a nice feature. The sound quality of the Ipod streamed music is excellent. The controls are very similar to the Oakley Thump and are easy to use. Plus, they look great on your head! Thanks Oakley!
